Back before all the Richardson schools, Waxahachie, and Dvil. Ah the days in area B where Berkner made State for a 7th place finals position.
-
Oh sick, yo hear me send me a private message and I'll see what I can do about seeing you or smt. Also good luck, I think y'all might be our home coming game...
-
Berkner is very secretive with their shows unless you see it in person most people don't know. I know what the show is but out of respect will not share it to the public. I'll say if they execute the show as well as they did in 2023 they have a solid chance making State even is this tough area.
-
I'd expect nearly no movement unless one of the new directors comes in and ruins the band experience for people or is just the goat of managing a band I expect not much improvement or failure from those bands which could leave the door open for those bands that aren't going through change.
-
Hey, I know this is about 6 months out and the band list isn't posted yet but I thought I might as well start this form so people can go ahead and talk about some of the bands from last year. I will post the band list as soon as I see if but please help me out if you find it first. In the mean time I'll send the list from last year since there shouldn't be to many changes in bands. THIS IS 2024!!!!! DON'T BECOME ATTACHED TO THIS SCHEDULE!!!!
-
Alright who wants to place bets on the next school? This has been crazy the number of Directors leaving. Anyone know if all the areas are like this or just this one is having a rough season?
-
I told my bassoon teacher that I like synth more than bassoon and she "your opinion is wrong and you're gonna start practicing bassoon." TBH concert band is extremely easy to me and I can play any of the music just from fingering music on the side in band class so I never practice at home since it's to easy LOL
-
I don't even like concert band!!! LET IT BE MAY ALREADY!!!!!
-
Some big changes this year. That change shouldn't change to much unless the director is cracked and changes the culture of the band instantly. I see it more as a set back for Pearce this year but depending on who that is it could be worth watching out for them.
-
I was joking about the Whiplash guy being the band director still. The top 3 for Perc for me would be Sachse, Wax, or Berkner. Berkner beet out Hebron at the lone star drum line contest in 2023 so even thought they placed pretty low in finals their percussion is kinda cracked.
-
I wonder which school this year is getting Percussion caption?
-
Isn't that the guy from whiplash? I'm guessing not the same guy but its the same name at least lol. It would be pretty cool if it was the same guy XD
-
Calling out to those who are or have been Drum Majors. Our leadership auditions are coming up and I'm a synth player so our options are pretty limited since we can't really be a percussion captain/section leader and we already help load the trucks every game so joining the loading crew is kind of off the table. There are really only 3 options for a leadership role and that would be join the Electronics crew that helps set up speakers for rehearsal(not every interested), sound crew captain which has already been taken by my friend, and lastly drum major. I would love the opportunity to conduct the band and be a strong leader but I love synth so much I don't know if its worth leaving synth for my last 2 years so I can be DM. Also if I don't enjoy DM we get locked into it for the remaining time we have in HS. I'mm pretty conflicted and would love to hear from those who have been DM!!!! Thanks yall

UIL 6A State Marching Contest 2025 (Nov 3-4)
SaltySynth replied to cheeto2401's topic in UIL: Upcoming Contests
Id say based off last year Marcus or Vandy. I think Vandy has a better shot based off their may camp video last year and watching some clips of the state performance. If their freshman class can stay on top of it I could see them dominating state for a while. -
The other rough thing for Berkner is they came from Area B I believe and they took 7 to state out of 14 that when to finals. They got the same place which would have rewarded them a state trip again but the area switch messed them up.
-
The only thing I would watch out for in a state slot is if one of the RISD schools comes up out of no where. I bet none of them will but those are the only ones I could see making a change to the finals list and that's only if there is a 5th position.

Been watching this video of 2 current phantom member. I do like their argument for why not to add wood Winds around the 45 min mark. They go into arguments for all the rule changes that were talked about before the 45min mark.
-
I also have a feeling that this change would be to bring more fame to DCI. Outside of the band community its not all that big and I would assume it doesn't stay with WW players very long after highschool. I think that if woodwinds are not allowed then they will also need to flush out the rules on what a solo can have to eliminate the "loop holes" used by Troopers. I mean the Troopers used a chelo in 2022 but you can't use a WW???? After sleeping on it I see the the argument but it still would take some getting use to.
-
Troopers posted their show btw I think on the 23rd of Dec. Not sure what it was called but they released all the music they are playing as well on the Instagram.
-
As a Synth player I know the electronics was a huge jump in innovation and change for DCI and marching band as a whole. I know electronics are still taken rather poorly by older players but its something that I really enjoy and I think it helps modernize this sport. Even with this belief with electronics I'm mixed with the fact that WW might be getting added to DCI even if it is just for solos. I would be interested in have a season or two of WW just to see how it turns out but I think adding electronics was a stretch and it helped a lot. I have a feeling that WW being added would be similar were those who always marched DCI without WW would disapprove but those who marched with WW would enjoy it. Final result: Add it for a season and see how people respond. I would enjoy the change but that pure brass sound is just so iconic and even my WW friends don't like the idea.

Most if not all shows are somewhere on youtube
