  1. Here's our performance from state. As far as I know, this is the best quality that we have uploaded so far:
  2. Haha, compared to you all, our band seemed so small. It was hilarious walking by you all.
  3. On a completely random note, our band walked by Dripping Springs as we were leaving towards the end of finals and I've just gotta point out that most of that band is ridiculously tall. I'm six foot and just about all of the guys and some of the girls were taller than me.
  4. Thanks! It was a lot of fun to play.
  5. Dripping Springs did great and they just won state. Of course they're going to be happy. At Area B competition last weekend, our band pretty much flipped at being announced at going to state. When you pour so much of your life into a goal and you achieve it, you can't help but express pure joy. Especially if, as someone from Dripping Springs said earlier, you didn't expect the outcome. That aside, congratulations to all of the bands yesterday. Our band was thrilled to have gone as far as we did and seeing eight of the ten finalist bands last night was amazing. I could not have ended my senior marching season in a better way.
  6. If a band that has never been to 4A state before is a medalist, I'd bet on Forney or Newman Smith.
  7. Ha, thanks! We mention our size in rehearsal a lot. We were hurt in prelims because people freaked out and overplayed in order to be as loud as the other bands. Before finals, our director told us that we wouldn't be able to compete with the sound of the larger bands and that we would only win by playing the way we always do. That piece of advice was what really moved us up.
  8. Yeah, we had gotten a division II at UIL two years ago. Really served as a wake up call for our band.
  9. Actually, as far as I know, all four of the bands that advanced weren't at the Area B contest two years ago.
  10. Ha, in my freshman year, we got third at honor band. The very next year, we got a division II at UIL. Our marching program at that time, however, was completely underdeveloped. I fully expect Wakeland to do great this year.
  11. They got sixth and ended up alternate. I remember seeing them at DMI, last year. Their show was a favorite among a lot of the members of our band.
  12. Your original question was whether pit earns their PE credit. As such, comparing them to battery is irrelevant. As has already been stated, pit earns their PE credit through loading, unloading, hauling, etc. Comparing the physical requirements between sections is fruitless because each section is different. On a side note, bragging about only getting one water break every ninety minutes is rather dumb, in my opinion. It's not healthy by any means.
  13. I could be wrong, but I think these are a few of the 4A band's pieces: First Suite in Eb by Gustav Holst Folk Song Suite by Ralph Vaughan Williams Wild Nights by Frank Ticheli I'm not sure about the rest and, like I said, the ones above may also be wrong.
  14. Symphonic Movement by Nelhybel is amazing. We played it two years ago when I was a freshman. It's a whole lot of fun.
  15. It might have been Bowie. We did Americans We, Slavyanskya, and Redline Tango last year.
  16. My solo is Morceau de Concert. I'm also doing a brass quintet this year. We intend to play Toyes, Fancies and Dreames for the regional S&E and then play a quintet by Malcom Arnold at state.
  17. Gah, I probably would too. Still, though, coming that close may not be what you wanted but it's very respectable.
  18. I got 7th out of 15 and missed state by five chairs. It's four chairs better than my placement last year so I was happy about the improvement. Overall, our school did really well. We got six students in the 4A All-State band and three students in the 5A All-State band. We almost doubled our record from last year. We also had around four kids miss it by one chair.
  19. This is quite the entertaining thread to read through every now and then. I enjoy seeing someone determinedly stick to their opinion. That said, I honestly don't think woodwinds should be in DCI. I love woodwinds and all but DCI wouldn't be DCI anymore if woodwinds were added. I would be all for a new program like DCI but included woodwinds as well but I'm not an advocate of adding woodwinds to DCI.
  20. I'll be doing the same thing. I can't wait. Nothing goes better with Thanksgiving dinner than watching the best game of the year. Hook 'em!
  21. That couldn't be more true. However, this past season is the first year we've had a really strong marching program. If we can maintain and improve on that next year, then we ought to do pretty well. I think what really made the difference in our marching program this year, is an addition to our staff. We hired a third band director and he's amazing to have on the marching field.
  22. Lord of the Rings would actually be pretty good if done right. You could both play the music and tell the story throughout the show. I'd love to see a good band do that.
  23. Those uniforms should be copyrighted by the Cavaliers or something. They look much better on them. http://ghs.pasco.k12.fl.us/news/uniforms.html On a side note, did anyone else notice that the snare drummer in the picture is on the wrong foot?
  24. I don't know the details of the shows from before I entered high school. 2002 - The Mummy 2003 - Can You Hear Us, Tommy? (I'm pretty sure this show was music from The Who) 2004 - Riverdance 2005 - 47 Ronin 2006 - Into the Unknown (A Mark Higgingotham show) 2007 - Askew (Music from Trittico by Nelhybel, Symphony No. 10 by Shostakovich, and The Firebird by Stravinsky) 2008 - Arabian Legend (A Key Poulan show that was originally called Medusa)
