Concert Season 08-09
Fata1 replied to borchnork's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
I'm not worried too much about that. My range is high enough so that I won't be killing myself by trying to play high. Also, like you said, I have both a smart director and a smart lessons teacher who will help me. If we do end up playing Kingfishers, I'll make sure I go about it in a smart manner. Thanks for the advice. -
Ha, we're out. The playoff game last Thursday was the closest we've ever come to winning one but our team is nothing without our starting quarterback. Oh well. On a side note, congrats to Mansfield for taking down the third ranked team in the state.

Concert Season 08-09

Yeah, I talked to my director about it. He's still deciding between Kingfishers and another piece. If we do the other piece, that's fine. If we do Kingfishers, I'll just work like crazy to get my range to where it needs to be. In the long run, it can only help me. I've wanted to get my range higher for a long time and now something will push me to do it. I trust my director to make the right choice so if he thinks I can do it, then I can. It'll just be a lot of work. -

That one comment that kdnblue142 pointed out pisses me off. There's so much bull in that one comment that I can't even pick it apart. To say that the band only marches between the two forty yard lines is one of the biggest lies I've ever heard. It's bad enough that people are criticizing one of the finest marching programs in the state for performing a piece of art but to then go and make up lies to try and bring them down further is ridiculous. The sad fact is that there are people that will believe them simply because they don't know enough about the marching arts to know better. Honestly, though, did "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" get this much crap. It's one of the finest books ever written and the movie is almost equally as good. It portrays mental patients and their doctors in demeaning ways and yet it's widely revered as one of the finest pieces of American literature. This is all so wrong. -
I have to disagree about Lafayette. They gave a very good semis performance. I had no doubt they would be coming back for finals. The definitely deserved it.

Haha, I love the piece but I really wish we weren't playing it. The horn part is so unbelievably high throughout parts of the piece. I'm going to die. -

We played that in my freshman year. I love that piece. -
It seems that Avon won it with a score of 97.75.
-
I'm still surprised that Carmel managed to get music over Bell. I really thought Bell had that one in the bag. Gah, I want to see the scores.
-
I can't wait to see the scores. The top five seemed to be so close to each other. I mean, the fifth place band took music and the third place band tied for visual. That's crazy. Congrats to Avon, though. They gave a great performance tonight. On that note, congrats to all of the bands.

As much as I'd love Bell to win, I think Avon will be taking it tonight. They just gave a great performance. -

I noticed that, too. I kept waiting for something different but it never came. Still, like you said, it was an amazing performance. -

Ah, well if they can do it once, they can do it again. -

That kind of sucks for Bell. They'll have to put an amazing performance on the field and really set the bar for the rest of the bands. -
WC show offensive??
Fata1 replied to wctuba2010's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
That kind of makes me mad. Had a show on television or Broadway portrayed Schizophrenia in the same manner, no one would complain. I don't understand why it is any different with a marching band just trying to put a performance onto the field. I think it goes without saying that the band didn't get together to design a show that was meant to offend anyone. They just want to entertain. I thought the show was very well designed. -

I have a feeling ours is going. I know they're doing a competition and I'm almost positive it's this one. I don't have any details, though.
