LD Bell 2008

Thank God. I went nuts trying to find it earlier today when I noticed you had taken it down. I couldn't remember the very last part of the url. -
The Metronome...
Fata1 replied to borchnork's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
We've only ever used the metronome at a performance once. It was last year at a football game and, given our circumstance last year, it was understandable. Everything in our show was going wrong last year. It was like anything that could go wrong did. It was so bad that the name of our show last year is almost taboo in our band. Thus, I think the metronome should be used in extreme cases. If it must be used to keep the show together, then it should be. In my opinion, it's better to march the first game or two (but not more) with a metronome to hold the show together than to give a bad performance. Still, like I said, only in extreme cases. -

Music for Prague is amazing. So amazing. -
Adaptive Pitch Test
Fata1 replied to Xenon's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
I got 0.24375 Hz and I'm in the 99.1st percentile. I find it interesting that when I took the test right after getting home from rehearsal, my score increased dramatically. -
Band Troubles
Fata1 replied to CPFrntEns's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
Our school's always had a few cheerleaders. We've got one in pit, one in the woodwinds, and our drum major is a cheerleader. This is our first year since I've been at the school that we've had a football player in the band. They stick out but it's not a contest so it's not that bad. Anyway, we just had our UIL performance today. There was a set where a player tripped on a dip in the field and fell. Then two players fell over him in a dominoes fashion. All three recovered nicely, though. -

It's just fun. Also, the worst I've heard from anyone is "That band isn't at the same level that they were at this time last year." Anyone who says a band isn't good this year based on an early performance would be torn apart on this forum. -

You have to base predictions off of something and basing them off of the most recent performances just makes sense. Of course, they'll change as the season goes on. Anyway, I can't wait to see Reagan's show. Verdi's Requiem is one of my favorite pieces of all time and I like the Barber of Seville a lot, too. -
2008 BOA Houston, TX Regional

I'm not sure what I was a member of. I just know that I got an email saying that they made some changes and that my current membership was changed to a BOA Fan Network membership that I could renew in November for a discount. -
We don't have the block scheduling but we still get around forty-five minutes of rehearsal a day outside of the eight hours of before and after school rehearsal. In total, we get about three hours and fort-five minutes of in-school rehearsal a week. Still, that's only half of what a band that met for an hour and a half every day would get. That would be insane.

Just saw Bell's show for the first time on the BOA Fan Network. I love it. I'm really looking forward to seeing their final production at Grand Nationals. -
We have a first period band class each morning so we go from 7:30am to 8:30am before school and continues until 9:15am during first period. Then, after school, we have rehearsal from 4pm to 5:30pm on Mondays and on days before a game. Then, on game days, we rehearse before the game for the extra hour permitted by the eight hour rule for game/contest days. We also rehearse occasionally on days that we don't have school like this passed Monday to make up for lost time on that day.

We're 5-2 now. We beat Poly Tech 55-20 at our homecoming game and brought us to 3-0 in district games.

5A band size
Fata1 replied to treyj's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
Our band marches something like 81 winds, 14 drumline, 12 pit, and 10 colorguard. We also have a JV section that marches simple drill in the back at football games and certain contests if they're doing good and they have about 12 students. Overall, we march somewhere around 117 without JV and 129 with JV. I don't mind our size too much. I wish we could have about 20 more on varsity. The only bad thing is that because of our overall size, we're forced to march a lot of kids that would probably make JV in a larger band. Our talent pool isn't as large as many large bands. In the end, a large band doesn't necessarily beat a small band. It's just that a large band has a larger talent pool. On a side note, thanks for posting the link to Jackson Academy. I've always wanted to see their 1993 show. I've heard a lot about it from numerous people. It definitely lives up to its fame. That trombone solo is awesome. -

This competition is stacked. I think I might go watch as long as I have nothing to do on that Saturday. -

Gah. It's on the same day as DMI which means I won't be able to take advantage of the live webcast. Oh well, at least I'll still get GNs. -
We're 4-2 now. We beat Western Hills 29-0.

I'm pretty happy with our performance time. Performing sixth out of nine 4A bands isn't too bad. -
Our team is actually 3-2. I said 2-2 earlier and I can't edit my post.

Our team is 2-2 now. We started off our district games with a 48-3 victory against Northside High School.

The current list is up: Class 4A- Floresville Hays Pearce Lake Dallas Legacy McKinney Southwest Waxahachie Class 5A- Belton Clements Coppell DeSoto Mansfield North Crowley Richland Midland Lee Rowlett Summit Trinity -
Our team got destroyed by Everman on Thursday. We lost 48 to 6. They're one of the best 4A teams in the state, though, so everyone at our school knew it would turn out that way. I'm sorry to hear that. My friend's girlfriend goes to Paschal and he kept telling me how amazing it was for them to win those first two games. I thought it was pretty exciting.

I'm real interested to see what amazing ending they have for this year's Grand Nationals. Like the giant, silk sheet and the little girl dressed in white from the passed two shows. This is going to be a fun year to watch. -

I've usually gone for Bell because I love the shows they do. I really hope they pull of first at both contests, this year. It would be awesome.
