  1. It happens all the time! Look back at statistics. Usually the sweet spot is performing after 60-70% of the bands have performed. Again, if a band performs at the beginning, more than likely they will not get high marks. That's because there is so much more competition to see (Well I can't rate them bad, because I don't know if there are worse bands. And I can't rate them high, because I'm not sure they are the best). Now, IF, after all bands perform, the judges can go BACK and calibrate, then I'm with you that no bias is performed. And come on now, we ALL have bias. To think that won't be the case, is ridiculous. Point being, whoever goes behind the champ, will get hosed (not purposely).

  3. Del Rio went on right after Vista Ridge (the champion). It probably warped the judges' minds to think Del Rio was worse than they were. I called it the moment that the schedule came out. I thought (man that's the worst spot to perform). It's like singing at karaoke. You never want to go after the girl who auditioned for American Idol. Believe it or not (unless you're the top 3), where you perform on the schedule DOES affect people. If I'm a judge, I'm not going to put the first band with super high marks, because I have yet to see the rest of the competition. Same with the last band, unless you're school name is Vandergriff, good luck getting high marks if you're the last band to perform.
  4. Did it switch back this year?? https://www.tmea.org/regions/alignment/
  5. I thought District 11 was also in this area per the realignment.
  6. As a Del Rio Alum, it pains me that Del Rio is lumped in with the top 4 bands in the entire state. The Rio Grande schools should be lumped together as they have consistently less resources than the rich Austin schools. They should get the reward of going to state for their hard work. That's my bias opinion though. I knew they'd never make it again once they were moved to that district. They could easily make state consistently in at least three other areas.
