  2. After watching BOA I agree with these takes. One show that I think will do particularly well with the UIL judges is Vista Ridge. I was genuinely shocked listening to them. As far as flower mound goes, I think they will stay top four, but their strengths obviously lean more towards BOA judging this year. I could see Hebron winning this thing, especially with how musically dominant they are. Sort of on the fence of where to place Vandergrift.
  3. HOLY VISTA RIDGE!!! Y’all aren’t done performing yet, but this might be my favorite show of the day. This is impressive.
  4. I was just having this conversation with someone, I feel like I have seen ~10 bands do this year. Don't necessarily hate it, but as a player, the ballad impact is super fun to play during.
  5. This is one thing that does sort of suck with Grand Nationals being so far away. I would love to see much more Texas representation at this event. But I do understand the distance makes it a cost thing.
  6. I agree, the Henry B. González Convention Center is good for TMEA, but its typically always super packed. Overall DCI finals and BOA Grands will probably stay there for a while.
  7. Seeing the “Thing” hand in the Winston Churchill band was so entertaining.
  8. Thank you for doing these today, wore myself out with 5A prelims😰
  9. Predictions for this is hard enough, I would not want to be a judge for this. Glad I will get to spectate instead!!!
  10. I love this, definitely have had some thoughts about this!!! Thanks for this info.
  11. Congratulations to Irion County on a state championship!!! Got to catch finals after the 5A finals and all these finalist bands did great!
  12. Congrats to the finalists bands and the state qualifiers! Now I can start to think about state placements for 6A! Heart goes out to Rockwall on the bubble! Yalls show was amazing!
  13. What a wild contest! Congratulations to every band in the contest, as well as the finalist, and the champion Cedar Park!!! Excited to see these bands in the later contests and next year!
  14. Predictions: 1. Cedar Park 2. Rouse 3. Leander 4. Wakeland 5. Lone Star 6. Aledo 7. Argyle 8. Mckinney North 9. Hendrickson 10. Friendswood 11. Burleson Centennial 12. Roma A lot will be close. Good job and good luck everyone!
  15. Got burnt out writing overviews yesterday, but everyone in block 1 was amazing!!! BC’s Percussion!! Norths soloists!! Friendswoods music!! Everything was so fun, excited to see how things shake up.
  16. Unsure. Full breakdown of Norths show had judges ranking some categories 7,8,10,14…but 20th in percussion. There is a full breakdown out there somewhere.
  17. They have a super fun show. Know they are attending grand nats, so excited to see them there.
  18. They got pretty heavily penalized in percussion yesterday, but unsure they could crack the top 6. Definitely have an opportunity to move up!!!
  19. Goodluck to everyone today! For those having their last performance ever, have fun! Excited to watch this unfold.
  20. Excited to see the outcome or this, especially with the delay from Saturday!! Goodluck to everyone!
  21. Congratulations again to everyone who made it to finals!!! Area B all making it is crazy!!! Special congratulations to the first time advancers! Super excited to watch everyone tomorrow
  22. El Dorado: Nice Section features! I love golden hour, it’s interesting to see it arranged for marching band!! Loved the hit in the ballad, super moving!! Congrats to them on their first time making it to state! Pieper: WHAT A SOUND! This show not only sounded amazing but had an incredible visual alongside it. Super warm timbre coming from the group, especially in the ballad. Trombone + band jam sesh was spectacular. Mt. Pleasant: Visually a stellar show. From the backdrop to the stage and the add ons, it def had amazing GE. Baritone soloist was amazing, loved their tone. Also 30+ color guard on rifle is actually so cool. Burleson Centennial: Super impressed with the front ensemble book! They make it look easy. The clarinet and flute duets were both super nice! The hit towards the end was fire. Kempner: Welcome back Halloween!!! But for real, loved the backdrop of this show before it even started. Brass technique is great in this show. Love how this ensemble treated dynamics. Another congratulations to yall’s first time at state! Tom Glenn: Nice chops battery! Trumpet soloist had a beautiful sound. Loved the styling the band did in the closer. Again, BATTERY!!! Jack C Hayes: Last one, and this show is VERY gold. Love it. Super powerful opening hit. The visual to go along side it was great! LOW BRASS FEATURE?! Good job. The wood winds killed it directly after as well.
