  1. Ah, okay, I gotcha. But we all know Honor Band isn't generally a fluke. Hebron gets stronger every year and I definitely think they're a force to be reckoned with. As a proud alum, I secretly hope I get to see the day where they surpass Marcus and/or Bell.
  2. Actually, no. This is Hebron's first time as Honor Band, as well as their first time going to Midwest with the top ensemble. However, the year before, we had our Clarinet Choir go to Midwest. That was 2009, I believe.
  3. Wow, a year after I graduate, my school does me proud! Glad we're considered a threat these days. Congratulations to the players and directors involved.
  4. Says the person from Cedar Park. I will admit your show held my attention, which is more than I can say for a LOT of the bands that performed in the finals. But marching band isn't really just about marching and playing all the time. Sometimes it's nice to tell a story. Although I understand why you guys did well at state. You march and play very well. But I thought BOA would have knocked you down a few pegs, since they're so effects-oriented. Either way, congratulations.
  5. Man oh man. The one thing about Hebron is... we always do so much worse in finals than in prelims! For example... this year at BOA SA we went from 6th to 8th. At UIL State we went from 7th to 10th. I hope the kids that take over in the next couple of years can reverse our curse. I can really see us going far in years to come. Since I completely disagree with Coppell's placement, I'll just go ahead and say that I agree with the top 2. Marcus had a phenomenal finals performance, while Bell's was just a bit ho-hum for me personally. And how lame would it be if Bell dominated EVERYTHING!? I'm glad that they each got their moments to shine. Can someone explain to me what Cedar Park's show is about? I'm still confused. All I remember is the fortissississississimo park-and-barks and the slow-paced ballad. I know it's called On Edge, but... of what? Insanity? It just didn't actually have a theme to me. No props, either.
  6. You definitely should, Stephen! Hebron has the 59th performance slot out of 60 at BOA SA.
  7. Mansfield is so great this year! It kind of feels like they came up from nowhere... They kind of remind me of us from back in the day. I hope they go far.
  8. Well we (meaning Hebron) were fourth after prelims... Which is CRAZY! And we got fifth after finals... Thanks everyone who congratulated and encouraged us along the way. I saw finals from LD Bell onward... (I believe that included Richland, Haltom, and Plano Sr) And I just gotta say....... Bell was fabulous! I'm such a big fan of them!! This year is by far my favorite thus far. I hope they just demolish everyone in their path.
  9. They're $99. Maybe kind of expensive, but if it is passed on from year to year from head drum major to head drum major, I think it's well worth it.
  10. Our drum major uses a Body Beat metronome... It's a portable pocket-metronome that sends a pulse/vibration for every beat. Thus, it's both practical and nonintrusive.
  11. Bahaha that's unfortunate that you've seen us 6 times. We rarely get to see other bands because we usually get the lastest performance times.
  12. My predictions?? Duh... same as it was last time. LD Bell, Marcus, Richland, Haltom, and Hebron! Anything else would baffle me.
  13. Wow those last couple of posts were an explosion of annoyingness. Haha... Wow. But anyways, I enjoyed Coppell's show the few times I've seen it (about 3 or 4 by now)... But it feels like they're trying too hard this year? I don't know... The arrangement of the music just felt... contrived? But the guard was nice, and they made good sounds.
  14. Hmmm well I like all of Marcus's shows the first time I see them... But they seem to get stale pretty fast in my opinion. I guess it doesn't matter to a judge though, since they only see it like one, two, maybe three times live during the season. I usually see them at least 5 or 6 times. And they just don't ever progress. They stay the same from the first performance to the last. (Except the Water show, when they added those fish flags to the closer right before BOA SA)
  15. Our director told us that if we wanna advance, we have to aim for top 4 places... Maybe he just told us that to motivate us? I would bet it will be 5. But who knows for sure?
  16. I KNEW IT!!!! Haha I wasn't sure if I just made that up in my head... But yeah! Okay! Thanks Stephen lol... Love that song...
  17. Which is disappointing news for Hebron upperclassmen because our old director Mr. Daniels, is now the head at Lake Dallas... I think he just needs some time to get a better grip on the reigns. But WOW that makes area a little bit more intimidating. Especially for the underdogs.
  18. Niccceee... Mrs. Lambrecht! She plays flute! She helped me with my region music when it came out earlier this summer. Her husband works with our band a lot...
  19. Sorry if I missed this somewhere else on the forums... But what is that song that Flower Mound has at the beginning of their closer this year? Isn't it the same song that Marcus opened with during their water show (where they all sang it while swaying from side to side like seaweed)?
  20. awww. i didn't know they weren't coming to BOA. i was really looking forward to seeing them... oh well. hopefully i'll get a chance to see them at state.
  21. (I'll give up my argument after this post. Hebron students have brought up in the previous year that bands from out-of-state have copied our show concept. Just because you've seen everything in Texas doesn't mean it's not happening elsewhere. I'm not trying to complain about other bands taking our designs... I just was commenting on how a lot of concepts are recycled. Sorry if it came off negatively. :/ I was just sayin.)
  22. Stephen... That's why I said in the original post "I know maybe all of our concepts haven't been 100% original..." The Bjork and Bartok don't bother me... But the DDR thing does. So many shows have been based around DDR since Music in Every Direction was in season. And I'm pretty sure we didn't steal that one from a corps. (In fact Saldana said he got the inspiration from the band lock-in lol!) I've seen two shows this year that incorporate arrows. Just saying.
  23. Thanks!! Haha so I didn't go to Homecoming because I wanted to stay for the awards ceremony. It was cute because our head DM wasn't there because she was chosen as homecoming queen! There were only a couple of us Hebron kids scattered around the audience but we screamed our lungs out anyways. This was the first time in Hebron Band history that we placed first in prelims (and also the first time we placed first in both prelims and finals). The only other bands I saw were Mansfield, Legacy, and Richland (and the last two minutes of Flomo). Mansfield improved soooo much from the last contest. They were really good I thought... And their drill was super tight! I loved the peeling-off move during the Dancer in the Dark segment. And Legacy has such a neat show concept. I just wished they played more actual music. Richland felt a little flatline to me as far as the bare basics - marching and playing - but they had really cool drill and I loved that tarp thing. I think that little move will go over really well at BOA SA.
  24. Fabulous. Vertigo is our freaking Ballad. Our entire show is Bernard Herman music. I know they didn't copy us because our shows are happening simultaniously, but can I go off on a tangent? You can stop reading now if you get annoyed easily...... Methinks Hebron is a highly copied band as far as musical selections (and to a certain extent, visuals) I know maybe all of our concepts haven't been 100% original, but cmon. DDR? That's Hebron. How many copycat shows have you seen since? And as far as music, we played that stupid Bjork song that some other band (Sacshe maybe?) is playing again. After we played the Bartok symphony thing, the Woodlands played it in their Hide and Seek show. There's others too... And as far as visual theifery (haha is that a word?), The year after DDR, we saw Haltom do a variation of our visual at the very end of the DDR segment (basically the biggest moment of our show where the crowd cheers the loudest). All I know if I were a director I'd have the most ballin-out-of-control shows ever. (As long as the band was well-off financially) Okay tangent is over.
