An Area G band hasn't made state finals in at least the past 20 or 30 years I believe, for sure the past 10. But true, who knows?

Based on past years' results, I feel like you can do that without the Area G results.

Area G Marching Contest

No, I understand. This time of the year there's always a lot of trash talking going around once certain people advance and others don't. What happened in '06? I didn't really keep up with that contest as much as this year. I just remember Lopez didn't advance... -

don't get me wrong, i do strongly disagree with some of the overall rankings and advancing bands, but i am decent enough not to mention which ones. i will not be condescending of the hard work all 37 bands put in. and i must say i am slightly offended that you automatically assumed that i was upset because the contest didn't go the way i wanted it to. even so, of course i'd be upset in that situation. likewise, it would be easy for me to tell other people to quit complaining if the contest had gone my way wouldn't it? -

ok ok everybody chill, don't jump to conclusions. i'm not putting anyone down here. i'm speaking about the inconsistencies between the judges' ranks. i mean look at it: one judge had psja north all the way down at 27, another had harlingen south at 24, jay at 23 and there was even a 30 for rio grande city just to name a few oddities. you can't say it's not a shame that the scores weren't at least a little more consistent. i'm putting down the uil scoring system here, not anyone's accomplishments. -

I agree. United is going to have a hard time getting into finals since they're going 2nd. Especially in a really long contest like 5A Area G (every time, not just this time around), performance order really does matter quite a bit. Take the '06 contest for example. Some of the bands that performed early in the morning ended up placing say 11-20, but had consistently outscored some of the finals bands all season long until that day. -

Hanna and Lopez are the two big contenders from the Brownsville area. Rivera's program is on the rise as well from what I hear. My favorites to make finals are (in no particular order): Hanna Lopez Harlingen Harlingen South Edinburg Edinburg North Rio Grande City Taft O'Connor United but I could easily see Donna, Alexander, or Sharyland making the cut so we'll see how things turn out. Finals are a total toss-up with this mix of bands. -

I should be there for the 2nd half of prelims and maybe finals depending on who advances. This is going to be one heck of a long contest. One of the longest in the state's history maybe? At least for a one-day competition I would think. 47 performances in a single day is a lot! Does anyone know who the judges are going to be? -
[Major Event] UIL Region Contest 2008
horn_r1 replied to Danpod's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
So far in Regions 11, 15, and 28, thirty-one bands have advanced to the Area contest. If i'm not mistaken, as long as four or more bands from Region 14 received a division 1, then Area G will send 7 bands to state. -
