  1. They base off of music scores to break ties
  2. Centennial was 6th. They were 1 point away from being 3rd place.
  3. Finals for Area B were cancelled. They used prelims scores and the 4 bands advancing are 1. Lake Ridge 2. Newman Smith 3. Wakeland 4. Southwest This contest was insane. There was a 3 way tie for 3rd, and there was only a 6 point spread from 1st to 6th place.
  4. I know First was Waxahachie and Second was Frisco Centennial
  5. I've had the pleasure of working with Timber Creek during their first two years as a 4A band. I have absolutely LOVED these kids since the beginning, and I am so proud to see that they are doing well.
  6. So I witnessed Black Gold's 2012 winterguard performance for my first time this season, and I have to say it's definitely one for the history books. Watching it only served to remind me that as artists, we are responsible for portraying important messages to the world in ways that can help to only improve our society. Can't wait to see what these guys will be like later in the season.
  7. TTR: GETTING A 100 ON MY 40 PAGE TERM PAPER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  8. Yes sir! I think this is their 2nd year 5A? I know there are a few Dickinson alumn here on these forums so if I'm wrong, please correct me. =]
  9. I got to see the show live in finals. Definitely one of my favorite shows at that competition. I still LOVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE your Cello and Flute solos. Absolutely superior. Everything was executed really well. It was such a tight competition. I have no idea how the judges decided the placements. I know I wouldn't have been able to do it.
  10. Your Prelims had a lot more energy, but finals was a lot cleaner and more balanced. Definitely a more uil friendly performance that night.
  11. I'll keep preaching for Area B. Yes, we didn't have as many high placements as Area D, but to get 3 out of 6 bands into finals, 2 of which are from the same school district, that's pretty darn impressive. Plus, Frisco (where Wakeland and Centennial are from) had 4 bands make Area B finals, and next state year there will be SIX Frisco schools competing. Wakeland and Centennial are both in transition phases right now too. Wakeland lost a good portion of it's band program to Lone Star High School and is rebuilding from that. Centennial is under a brand new head director, and most of the staff there has only been around for 2-3 years. Plus, of the 180 kids that marched at Centennial this year, about 100 of them were freshmen and sophomores. Keep an eye out for Area B in 2013!!
  12. Idk. Cedar Park playing non-stop Mahler with that absolutely RIDICULOUS drill at the tempo they march and sounding as epic in the dome as they did seems like a HUGE risk to me. Mahler isn't easy. And it's even harder when you add that drill. All this to say, I think every band this season had quite a few risky moments in their shows.
  13. I was extremely proud to see Lake Travis congratulate CP and DS on their gold and silver placements in the stands at the dome.
  14. From the groups I saw, I think it's fair to say that MOST of the bands didn't fall into this category at all. They were all spectacular, really well played shows. Heck, some of my favorite shows didn't even finish top 5 this year.
  15. Congrats to ALL the bands tonight! I was SOOOOOOOOO impressed. With everybody. Good job to our new 4A State Champs, Cedar Park!
  16. And now time for the 6 hour wait for results....
  17. On my way to the dome!!! Good luck to EVERY band competing. Put your best show out for the state to see. You all earned it!
  18. It's okay. Just know that almost the whole state of Texas feels for your kids. No program should ever have to deal with that.
  19. It was like a mini state! Throw centennial in the mix and the fact that McKinney was first alternate in area B and it was pretty cool. =]
  20. I definitely think that difficulty influences a judges score. I have seen SEVERAL really good and clean shows not place so high against bands that are just a tad dirtier, and not as musically strong but with a CRAZY difficult show. Do I think it's fair? Well it depends. The level of difficulty should definitely be a factor in my opinion. But if a band cannot perform a difficult show, then I think they should receive scores reflecting that lack of stability. However, if a band performs a more difficult show at the same caliber as a band with a less difficult show, then give credit where credit is due.
  21. I sat right smack dab in the middle of the Poteet parent's at CMF yesterday and I can say I am extremely impressed with how well you as a whole program have handled the bad end of an unfortunate situation. Your kids, in classic Poteet fashion, put on a great, well spirited show last night.
  22. Isn't it fun to look back at how awkward a kid you were and just think "how did people tolerate me?" I do that almost daily. lol. =]
  23. Every time I see a drumline do fancy stick moves now, I think back to this topic lol.
