  1. Top 3 Prelims: Dripping Springs Poteet Wakeland I want to say The Colony is 4th? Also Dripping Springs takes the outstanding marching and music captions and tied with wakeland for outstanding GE.
  2. Being a former cellist, I must say I smiled quite a good deal hearing the cello solo in a marching show. =]
  3. Very good show. Definitely the strongest flute soloist I've heard all season. They sound FANTASTIC!
  4. I've noticed this to SOME degree in Frisco. It's probably not as bad here as other parts of Texas because the school district is STILL growing pretty dramatically. We've been fortunate enough to have an orchestra program established, plus glee clubs, harp classes and symphony orchestra classes put into place in the last 10 years or so. But still, I know that the orchestra programs are being stretched thin to the core. I know that most all the middle school orchestra directors teach at more than one middle school, and the high school director for Centennial teaches two separate orchestra courses at the high school PLUS is the orchestra director at TWO middle schools. In the band world, it was extremely common to have directors higher 2-3 drill techs per band program a year, however the budget is just no longer there in Frisco. I'm working as a tech for my school PURELY on a volunteer basis. I haven't earned a single dollar. I really hope that the state opens their eyes before it REALLY starts to hit Frisco hard. Thank goodness I plan on getting involved in politics as a career. I wouldn't dare cut funding for fine arts programs. Ever.
  5. You have a good deal of free time on your hands. haha. Either way, that's definitely an interesting way to look at things. I'm curious how other areas (mainly F and D) compare.
  6. Haha sounds epic. We did a "sing through" of the show during warm up this week and our piccolo trumpet player has some ridiculously high stuff for a guy to sing lol. It made my day hearing it.
  7. Just curious to see if any bands/sections out there have any sort of traditions that they use to get hyped up.... For example, our sax section has their own cheer they do at the end of every rehearsal. Just wondering. =]
  8. It's a cool concept.............................????????????????????????????????????????????????????/
  9. Omg. Birdville jumped from 10th to 3rd?!?! WOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW. Not saying that I don't think they earned it, but that's a MASSIVE jump. In fact, the only two bands that didn't move are Wakeland and Centennial. It's also sad for me to see the 1st alternate to state from 2007 make 29th out of 30 this year. =[ I think the changes in results basically means ANYTHING can happen. Gotta keep giving your best ALL the time.
  10. The programs reputation is probably playing a role in the predictions right now as well. Regardless, it's way too close a competition to call a clear winner. I feel like the state title will stay in Area D, and the top spots will be dominated by Area D, but you have strong programs From areas B, C and F that will definitely push their way into those top slots.
  11. The real Test is going to be getting to Alaska before the zombies get you...
  12. I really enjoy dawson's show. It says a lot that theyve done so well against friendswood this year
  13. I think that's fair to say. I'll use centennials placement at the Carrollton TOC to help though. They placed higher than the current 5A honor band, Hebron, at that competition. Talent is talent no matter what. I like to refer to DS as the Marcus of 4A. Cute, clean and musically extraordinary shows that cannot be touched.
  14. I think something that your kids should know is that it's not that they put on a bad show, because they had a fantastic performance. It's just how ridiculous our Area is that makes it hard for bands to really shine. If you still have friends in the program, let them know not to get discouraged and to come back swinging next state year!
  15. It was such a great little community! =] The people are the main reason I keep coming back here. =]
  16. I remember when all you guys used to post here all the time. =[ Such a different place without everybody! COME BACK! ....please???
  17. Grain it rhymes with rain. lol
  18. Corn. Yummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmy
  19. TTR: Posting on one of my old favorite topics in the forum. =] TTR: Being 21 and in Grad School TTR: Having a 1 hour long phone conversation about Txbands.com with your best friend whom you MET BECAUSE of this website 4 years ago!
  20. Dripping Springs. Still first in my opinion. But I'm most excited about the opportunity to just see the show from Poteet this year. I know they won't disappoint.
  21. Thanks for the support. All my hopes are for a repeat title for DS. I really enjoyed seeing Southwest at Area this year. GREAT musical selections and some of that drill was intense.
  22. Any news on additions to the contest?
  23. I wouldn't quite say "end of an era". Yes, they won't be there, but they DID qualify to go originally. To say the era is over is basically saying the talent/strength of the program is no longer there, when they clearly proved at Area that 20 years later, the band still has that unique strength to march among the best programs in the state.
