I actually thought you guys would do much better than you did. I think you had a better sound than both LBJ and Taft honestly. And I still have the opener stuck in my head after seeing your show twice in 3 days Interesting fact - Vista Ridge and Mcneil share a color guard instructor and both bands won the guard caption in their individual class. She must be doing something right -

Charles Akins High School 89.3 2. Vista Ridge High School 88 3. Weslaco High School 87.7 Only remember the captions for Group IV... Some thoughts - Weslaco definitely stole the crowd with their machine show, receiving a standing ovation at the end. Taft's show was definitely a BOA show, but I felt like they didn't do too much playing. LOTS of solos on various instruments. Congratz to Akins who received first overall here and then raced over to Westlake to get 5th. Had to be a rough day. -

We've all been to 2 or 3 games by now. What are some of the shows you've seen from the sideline? We saw Bowie play a couple of weeks ago. Always great to watch a band with such a huge brass sound! Their show revolved around bells, and I think it has a lot of potential! Last night we played Connally. Just like us, they are very small for a newly made 5A band. What was funny is, their show revolves around night and darkness, while our show revolves around light. Very contrasting shows. As always, Connally has an amazing show, and always I am a huge fan of their musical selection and arrangement. Their size doesn't hold them back at all. What bands have you seen?

Here's what I'm thinking...Merger!!! but seriously, both of these competitions will coexist until one of them decide to adopt the policies that bands find appealing in the other. Bands enjoy the UIL format because it gives small bands a chance. It divides schools up based on size, but actually gives the smaller bands a spotlight competition (as opposed to the afterthought of A, and AA in BOA). I think a lot of bands, or at least i enjoy the different levels of competition UIL has, and the advancement from region to area and area to state. It allows bands to make goals such as "we want to at least advance to area" or "we want to make finals at area" as opposed to BOA where the only goal seems to be finals or nothing... BOA features a larger scale competition, with the focus on wowing the crowd and GE. The reason behind the success of BOA is it's encouragement of creativity. So unless UIL adds focus to GE or BOA adds a UIL like region/area/state system, I don't think you'll see either of these competitions be edged out anytime soon...but seriously...merger?!

Gonna be interesting to see what happens in 4A area D if all these schools do go 5A. What's left? I don't think there's any guarantee thought that any of these schools (connally, hendrickson, vista) will go 5A -

Conally's always iffy on whether or not it will go 5A. Always pretty close. We are pretty sure that we'll be going 5A though (vista ridge)
