BOA San Antonio Finals Results
urkadrums replied to Serardian's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
LD Bell's show had tons of people asking what Pan's Labyrinth was about, so they could understand the girl and the yellow cloaked figures. Just like last year, their show gave me the "creeps" but in a good way. Marcus had another light and happy show that was well rounded in G.E. (our group 'ahhhh'ed when the flowers opened up and the band members were inside). I personally liked LD Bell's show better, but I guess I can see how Marcus got the scores/captions they got. I only got to see finals, so I don't know how these band performed in prelims, but congrats to them. I was glad to be able to see Churchill's guard, which is absolutely phenomenal, every year. I thoroughly enjoyed Brazoswood also, and was dissapointed to see them placed so low. Their last set made everyone in our band say, WE HAVE TO DO THAT ! lol. -
So we performed at 1:15pm yesterday in the first block. We weren't really happy with our time, but we made the best of it. I hadn't played in the alamodome since my fresman year in 05, but I instantly remembered how the delay sounded when we had to set up our pit equipment to the side of the field to wait for the band before us to play. The shock from the center snare that echoed clearly many times, the announcements that sounded like complete gibberish when they announced the band, it was an instant flood of focus to find the first sound, and I was fiercely hoping our freshman and sophmores that hadn't played there yet were doing the same. As we wait for the band to play, we (the pit) turn our backs from them and tune them out so we can focus on our performance. The only thing I listened to from Columbus HS was the first battery hits I heard, so I would know what to hear when our band got on the field. Our performance was extremely good. For the pit, our best band competition performance, considering the conditions and how easily we could have tore from the band. The band directors couldn't stop jumping up and down, and I smirked at my fellow marimbas when we hit some of our most loud impacts and runs on time, and when our trumpet soloists hit their high notes and trills perfectly in tune (we're supposed to look cocky and confident anyway :]). Good luck to all the other bands that performed yesterday, and to all the bands that perform today. I know we (Georgetown) is considered one of the "unknown"s, and that to make finals as an "unknown" is extremely difficult, but we achieved a great performance that we put all of our heart into, and accomplished so many goals, and well, thats all that matters.

that's a really neat list ! i like to see the predictions, without having to attempt to make my pitiful predictions first to see them our band plays kind of early, in the first block tomorrow. that kind of stinks, but we'll play our hearts out anyway, because that's no reason to get down in spirits.

thanks :] has a cute band picture lol.

what song is stuck in your head right now?
urkadrums replied to stewiemylove's topic in General Off-Topic
ahh a mis abuelos ! we played that in the spring at our town's parade/festival. our trumpet player that played the trumpet solos in it was quite good. but that song got repetitive, and annoying after a while. hmm i have "Girl" by the Beatles stuck in my head, randomly. no reason why, haven't heard that song in a long time. i also have random hardcore music stuck in my head, but not the words, because its all screaming :] -
well yes, because we have no school (inservice) ! but we have a 2 hr+ rehearsal on our stadium field tomorrow morning anyway. and a football game even though we have no school. so i dont really get a day off. do you hate math ? (im so glad im not taking a math class this year)

Injuries
urkadrums replied to dtxtrmpt's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
a little graphic: last week, our bass 3 drummer Briggs was coming in from rehearsal, he was right behind me. and the battery helps bring in random pit equipment so we dont have to make multiple trips from the practice field. well, Briggs had grabbed one of the synth's speakers and he was bringing it into the band hall when he tripped on a trumpet player and he fell, and the bass drum landed on his right hand. i saw him fall, and he held up his hand screaming, omg omg omg where's the nurse ?! I looked at his hand and almost passed out. Briggs ended up slicing almost the first joint of his ring finger almost off, it was basically almost hanging off his hand, and the middle finger was broken diagonally all the way down. so i saw his finger basically hanging, and the other one swelled up, as blood dripped down his wrist. i started freaking out, and he ran to the nurse, while we cleaned up his blood off the floor and the bass drum and calmed everyone else down who saw what happened. briggs went to the ER and they sewed his finger back on and put the broken finger in a splint. so last week at UIL he just marched his spot and didn't play. his fingers are getting better though. hopefully he'll be back in for BOA SA next week and Lonestar Drum Comp. haha nice story eh? -

Westlake Marching Festival
urkadrums replied to whitewing09's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
yeah gtown percussion didnt do as well at westlake as we did at cap city. the pit tore and oh we were so depressed. but we're even with our main rivals rr. we beat them at cap city and they beat us at westlake. :] idk if they went to belton drumline comp. we didnt, we went to plano drumline comp. but now we'll see them at lonestar drumline comp, and see what happens. -
yeah we did tie colleyville heritage. didnt get to see their show, but congrats to them too :]

our band (georgetown) overall did do better in finals than in prelims. we were ecstatic to recieve 2nd, beating cedar park and only losing to bowie by .135pts. our band is actually doing considerably better than they have in the past couple years. im suprised and very proud. still havent seen any marching band show besides from the side of the field at football games. maybe maybe i'll finally get to see one at UIL next week. -
Plano Drumline Competition
urkadrums replied to PlayOboe's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
kyle ! awww i miss u so much, and ur sweet timpani playing :] tyler talked about you and golf today, says he is totally going to beat you when yall play next lol oh and in regards to plano: 4 caption awards . we were most suprised about getting best snare. seeing how we only have 4 snares, one veteran snare player who isnt even drum captain, (drum captain played tenors 9-11, and had to be moved this year, so it was HIS first year on snare) katie, who has a really bad knee, and a 1st year drumline member that played tuba last year lol. but congrats to all the other drumlines. and yeah to colleyville (sp?) heritage, our fellow tie-ers for 1st place lol -
georgetown drumline is once again sweet. we were a little nervous, bc our battery is small this year, only 4 snares, 2 tenors, 5 basses, 4 cymbals. (14 in the pit) but apparently that wasnt troubling. we didnt go to belton drumline contest this year, bc we decided to go to plano drumline contest. (and congrats to c.p. for winning belton, that was so much fun hanging out with yalls pit at the gtown vs cp game a couple weeks ago) we won plano in the top standstill divison, and 4 captions. a great start to a great season. hope everyone else is doing well. haven't seen RR's line yet. heard they got 3rd in percussion at Capital City Marching Fest. we got 1st. seems like its going to be a nice competitive year yet again RR :]
-
yeah this was a different experience for us (georgetown) since we were considered 3A for the first time. (we were moved down a classification because the competition classified bands according to number of winds, rather than size of school. we have 96 winds, although we are a 5A school, but we were put in 3A for this competition) so not competing against roundrock was odd. but we will be in 4A/5A whatever it is, next week at westlake. we got 4th, and apparently the reason is that our drill book is kind of screwed up at the end of the show. because we got 3rd in music, but didnt do so well in visual. so we are doing new drill this week to fix those problems. but im in pit, so that doesnt pertain to me. but man we were hyped to get best percussion :]

homecoming :]
urkadrums replied to clarinetrocks's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
Ours (georgetown) was last friday against Belton. We beat them really bad 42-7. and our head drum major Bernie, won Homecoming Queen as the Band nominee ! We were so excited, since the band nominee probably hasn't won homecoming in years, if ever.
