  1. langham has about 10 sets on the field right now. ..the least of any school in houston, mostly thanks to our horrible drill writer. (who was fired a week or so ago and replaced by Mark Chambers, who is actually doing what we pay him to do correctly)..and we've been getting alot of rain. What sucks most about being so behind, is that this is going to be our first year ever at Super Regionals, so we were already going to be out of our element since its BOA. oh man, this years really going to be interesting. Only good thing is my band always has really clean sets to begin with (seeing as we spend forever learning them), so once the show IS done, we need less time to clean than most bands. but still, WE NEED TO LEARN MORE SETS
  2. It seems like when people take into consideration the "best bands in texas", they primarily think "marching band!", and completley overlook the other side of our band programs. The concert programs in texas are just as competitive and high quality as our marching programs. Having been in a group that has placed high in state finals, and was also part of the honor-band process, i can honestly say both are equally difficult. To be one of the the best in my books, a band program has to not only do great things as a marching band, but likewise as a performing ensemble during concert season. And i don't just mean "sweepstakes" at uil. Alot of schools in Texas can do that. I mean by placing well in in the State Honor Band competition, which is basically the concert equivilent of of the State marching contest. Only really extraordinary bands can place high in BOTH. Alot of times even in the same year.
  3. ive never heard of a school using a met during a game, except cy-falls. i though it was sort of embaressing to do so? That really surprises me if its something common.
  4. our first game was...interesting. it was langham vs. katy taylor It was raining and lightning at first, so we were on the bus basically until halftime. And it was sort of misting still, so woodwinds didnt get their insterments out and marched half time just with horns up while brass played. Not to mention only about 60% of the band marched the show, due to our strict "no pass, no play" policy. So there was alot of holes. It was crazy trying to guide. But our director was really happy with the performance, so its all good. Also, for the drill team song both schools played "My Sharona" Except Katy Taylor actually had their woodwinds play. It was pretty funny.
  5. im incredibly sure. Hes writing for us WHILE working with the Crossman. We were really luck to find someone like him, especially on such short notice. Now all thats left is to play a HUGE game of catch up.
  6. Langhams show is an origional arrangement by Key Poulan of "Gloriosa", which is by this japenese composer named Ito i believe. At our game this week, well be playing the second half of the first movement, which is about 52 seconds long. (if we finish it, which im pretty sure we will.) We might have to do an LCHS spell out to take up the rest of the time. We just fired our drill writer this weekend because he was giving us un-usable drill, so we're very behind. I forgot his name, but the new drill writer we hired used to be the director at Reagan and he wrote the shows apparently while he was there. Right now he's re-doing our first 13 sets i believe , and working on correcting our second movement drill i think. This year is becoming a repeat of last year for us, with all the delay and problems with getting drill
  7. i love Nimrod! We played Enigma for our state show. Really beautiful music. but other pieces i like - Don Juan. Alot of people think its "boring", but theres so much depth to it. Its one of the hardest peices I've ever played in my life, along with Eric Whitacre's Equus, which is also equally amazing. Arrival Platform Humlet is a really fun song, too.
  8. ah yah, origionally we got this preshow that was 4 minutes long. But there was too many disagreements between the people creating our drill, so they did away with it. Yeah, noone had a problem reading it because it was japenese style at our school, lol. Its just that because its a different type of music, its just really difficult, but we always play really hard music. I think this years show will be exciting, but i really cant say for sure, seeing as we've hardly learned any drill yet because our drill writer keeps giving us incorrect drill, which is what happened last year *ugh*. Last year, we finished learning Enigma about 3 days before UIL.
