  1. As far as I've been told, we won because they had a lower placement than us (6th in music was their lowest ranking, and ours was 5th in music). EDIT: Lol, or not.
  2. Congratulations to the Hendrickson, Dripping Springs, LBJ, and Hays High Schools! Let's do our best to represent Area D well at S-T-A-T-E!!! Congratulations to everyone who made it to Area, and to finals, as well!
  3. Thank you guys for the quick defense of our program's reputation, but let's please keep any speculation of the original poster (as far as name-dropping goes) within our band hall. Now, let's just let this all die down and hit the practice field extra hard tonight.
  4. Here's all of the shows performed by Hendrickson since opening: 2003 - A Knight's Tale 2004 - Stars ("Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star", "Ode to Joy", "When You Wish Upon a Star") 2005 - To Build a House (Based on "Canon in D") 2006 - Music Is... ("Toccata & Fugue in D Minor" and "Little Fugue in G Minor" by J.S. Bach) 2007 - Two Hearts Beat As One (Our ballad was "Glasgow Love Theme" by Craig Armstrong from Love Actually) 2008 - Imaginarium ("Noisy Wheels of Joy" by Eric Whitacre, "Jenny's Theme" from the Rocketeer Pursuit, "Ka" from Cirque du Soleil, and "Pure Imagination" from Willy Wonka)
  5. I've never actually been injured before in marching band...unless you consider getting Bronchitis last year, but I think that was karma for taking a week-long break to go to Disney World. Plus I was in pit, so I didn't have to take any time off. I just croaked a lot. Anyway, this year on the very first day of Freshman band camp, my first day doing marching fundamentals, we had a gush and go water break. Trying to set an example I sprinted back to my spot...and when someone ran into my path I didn't adjust in time, catching their heel and being propelled forward. Later I was told I did this weird Power Rangers flip but I skidded across the blacktop and tore open both my hands and knees. I was nicknamed 'The Mummy' for how heavily bandaged I was. Also, I almost passed out before a game even started. Long story short there was a dinner mix-up, I didn't have enough to eat, it was hot and I was carrying a heavy drum, and the only thing that kept me from hitting the ground was a snare girl next to me catching me. And THEN, my eyes seem to be a target for attacks. Be it stray elbows, mic cords, or the snare harness of the same girl who caught me (very painful, btw) I've gotten hit in the eye many times so far. It just hasn't been my year, injury-wise. :/
  6. Hendrickson beat Hutto on Friday, I think 43-42...? I just remember that we beat them with a two point conversion in overtime...and they had to get a two point conversion to SEND it to overtime, and it was awesome. Definitely the most exciting game I've seen our team play. So, yeah. We're 4-1. Everyone at school is awe stricken. (I'm secretly just hoping for some playoff games and extra shows )
  7. I used to be a member of our Speech and Debate team, and enrolled in a theatre class. Unfortunately, due to crazy schedule demands and an overall greater love of percussion, I got out of Theatre. Which was sad. I'm big into graphic design, though. I designed our percussion shirt this year, a tiny part of which you can see in my icon. It took me ages to finish, my goodness.
  8. ...aaaand the results are in! This year's winner of the KEYE 42 Marching Band Challenge (as of like 2 minutes ago) is the: Hendrickson Hawk Band Thank you to any and everybody who voted!
  9. Just an update, the third band in the finals has been announced. The three finalists are the: LBJ Jaguar Band Connally Cougar Band Hendrickson Hawk Band KEYE just aired a 30 minute feature about the competition and, now that it's over, voting has been opened for the final round. We'd love it if you guys could take a look at the videos of our performances and vote for your favorite finals drum line. Voting is open until Tuesday at Noon, and you can vote once every 30 minutes. Thanks you guys!
  10. I hadn't actually heard of it either...until I took an illustration class this summer. My professor liked playing classical music while we worked, and one day we caught the symphony (with Orson Welles narrating :]). I heard it, loved it, and have been hoping to see it en marching band form ever since.
  11. Oooh, do you have music from 'The Airborne Symphony' in your show?
  12. Oh, I love Adagio for Strings. It's so pretty. I learned a percussion version of it for an audition for indoor drumline, and it was awesome. (and then, that night, they played it on just about the only Simpsons episode I've ever watched, and everyone at my school who had played it pretty much had simultaneous heart attacks ) I hope I'll get to see the show!
  13. Our team lost last night, 14-20. It was kind of the same way our first game last year went... We scored off the bat, and then didn't score again until the last quarter. However, there were some promising moments. I don't know half our varsity team, but there was this one guy who caught the ball a lot, and this one other guy who returned a kickoff for a good number of yards. Oh, and another guy who blocked people pretty well. So, yeah. (I'm just hoping that our team does well so I can actually play at a playoff game for once in my life )
  14. CBS 42 is hosting a percussion competition. 16 of Central Texas' bands (all of whom received 1s at Region last year) had their drum lines perform and be recorded for this event. For the past three weeks their performances have been aired during the halftimes of the Dallas pre-season games. The participants are: Week 1: Anderson Trojan Band LBJ Jaguar Band*** Reagan 'Soul Raider' Band McNeil Maverick Band McCallum Knight Band Week 2: Hays HS Band Aikens Eagle Band Bowie HS Band Connally HS Band*** Lehmen Lobo Band Week 3 (in session): Austin HS Band Cedar Park Timberwolf Band Hendrickson Hawk Band Pflugerville Pfightin' Panther Band Vista Ride Ranger Band Westwood Warrior Band Each week 5 band's performances are aired, and then voting is opened to the public. The band who earns the most votes per week moves on to the final round of voting, where viewers decide between the top three groups. LBJ and Connally have already won their respective weeks. The six bands from Week 3 had their performances aired on Thursday night, and voting (which ends Sunday at noon) is currently in session. It would be awesome if you guys from the site could put your hands into mix and vote for your favorite performances! To view performances and vote, go to: http://www.keyetv.com/content/entertainmen...nd/default.aspx
  15. I'm definitely not a fan of rain either. Our Thursday rehearsal basically consisted of: "Pit set up outside." "There's a storm on the horizon...move inside!" "Oh, never mind, it's done. Sunny skies ahead. Get back on the field." "OH MY GOUDA, LIGHNING, TORRENTIAL RAINS, RUUUUUN!!!!" And so on. We didn't get too much rehearsing done, pit-wise... But we definitely cut down on our set up time!
  16. Marimba 17 Xylophone 16 Vibraphone 12 (+) Chimes 10 Bells 11 Concert Snare 8 (-) Marching Snare 8 Marching Tenors 11 Concert Bass Drum 11 Marching Bass Drum 11 Tom-Toms 9 Crash Cymbals 10 Suspended Cymbal 10 Triangle 9 Timpani 10 Gong 9 Finger Cymbals 8
  17. We had our 'Meet the band' night yesterday, too, but the band wasn't able to march the show. Basically, we stepped outside, saw a looming black raincloud of death...and headed to the stage to play inside. And then we had a movie night where we learned that percussion girls + scary movies = not a happy combo.
  18. Haha, Foster, getting a bit worked up, aren't we? Though, I do agree. Have you gotten to watch our full show? Not even from the very front, per se...but at all? If not, then is it really your place to say that they're "waaaaaaayyyy better" than us? Just wondering. It's the same reason why I've not posted rankings for our Area...because, with the limited viewing of other shows that I've gotten, I can't really say. :] As of now, with a general "I'm in this band" bias, my rankings would look something like this: 1) Hendrickson 2-3 and Alternate) Any other band in our area, in no particular order ...Yeah. On another note, I agree with most of the comments above about Connally. I really hope everything settles out for you guys, because you guys are a great program, and I've really enjoyed what I've seen of your show this year. I'm definitely looking forward to competing against you at Area and, if we make it, I'd want to compete with you guys at State, too. So, best of luck with finding your footing once again!
