Song ideas for marching shows?
rpd replied to eddy725's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
Possibly check out Harlingen from this year. It might not be the best executed show out there, but it has Enter Sandman, Ecstasy of Gold (Ennio Morricone, but what Metallica starts all there shows with) Fade to Black, One (some of the Double Bass part though) And a couple songs I cant identify anymore. I used to be a Metallica junkie. -

Richland 2007 did the Halo theme. And they finished 7th at Grand Nationals, so I guess that makes them good. "With Heart and Voice" is by David Gillingham -

"Cinema Paradiso" by Ennio Morricone I'm sure this song has been done somewhere, but I have yet to find it. I think it would make an amazing ballad. -
Its a possibility, not a very big one though. Carmel and Broken Arrow look very good from what I have seen, and of course you have to consider Avon in serious contention of repeating. I think 4 out of 7 is a fairly strong possibility though.

2009: BOA San Antonio, TX Super Regional

Sometime this week. I think Leander can be the best example of a late-blooming band. I believe they did very similar last year. Teens at Arlington then come back and make San Antonio Finals. -
Here's Region 12 and (some) Region 11 results. The Region 11 results are based off comments left on sasports.com. Good ol' Region 11 for still not having the results online Region 12 4A: Alamo Heights 1 1 1 Brakenridge 2 2 2 Burbank 3 2 3 Canyon 2 1 1 Clemens 1 1 1 Edison 2 2 2 Fox Tech 2 2 2 Jefferson 1 1 1 Lanier 4 3 2 Seguin 1 1 1 Steele 1 1 1 5A: Churchill 1 1 1 East Central 1 1 2 Highlands 1 2 1 Johnson 1 1 1 Judson 1 1 1 Lee 1 1 1 Macarthur 1 1 1 Madison 1 1 1 New Braunfels 1 1 1 Reagan 1 1 1 Roosevelt 1 1 1 Smithson Valley 1 1 1 Wagner 1 1 2 Region 12 (from what I pieced together) 4A: Harlandale 1 1 1 Boerne Champion 1 1 1 Medina Valley 1 1 1 McCollum 1 1 2 5A: Southwest 1 1 1 Stevens* oconnor* Brandeis* Jay* South San* Taft* *Recieved 1's but unsure of break down. Some comments of what I saw Holmes - Not much to say. They seem to be going a more artsy direction, which I applaud. I believe Montoya still arranges for them and Brian Hildreth writes drill for them. Marshall - I was proud and disappointed of my alma mater. Proud because they fixed a lot of intonation problems that I thought plagued them at BOA Houston. The ballad was very good and came through nicely. HOWEVER, I am very disappointed in the amount of people failing. There was about 10-15 holes and as a result the final "big hit" was not big at all. Marshall's achiles heel for so many years has been lack of dynamics. Sadly Saturday was not much different. Clark - I think Clark is the one band from NISD that if they wanted to be really good, they could. There show was very good, but a little to solo driven for my taste. However they had an excellent sax quartet with a clarinet soloist. When I was at Marshall I remember Clark dominating the clarinet section every year, and this year appears to be no different. They had about 4 different clarinet solos with at least 2-3 different performers. I would love to see Clark do BOA. Though I don't know the ratings for sure, I'm pretty sure Clark and Marshall got straight 1's. While Holmes was probably a 2.

2009: BOA San Antonio, TX Super Regional

This year we performed at a cowboys game, 2 BOA competitions, 2 local competitions, and a UIL Region competition. Our marching season ends when the high school competitive marching season ends. The only real drag about not having a football team is that September drags on fooooooorever. October has been really fun though. Oh, and the field is used every Friday night by Arlington high school games. -

Its leaning towards the high school shows, probably because be march at 2 BOA competitions every year (although we almost didn't do San Antonio this year). Although we still a lot of cheese thrown in that you would expect from a College band. Its funny because a lot of people here don't like the show band style. Honestly, a selling point at UTA for me was that they didn't march the show band style (no offense). We also never high step. But we also don't do straight leg, we do Cavaliers style marching. -

I have to ask, is the St. Louis Regional that much easier than the Arlington Regional, or did Birdville have one heck of a week cleaning? Or both? Regardless, congratulations to them. -

I signed. Its such a sad story, but Heather Christensen is the one inspirational part of it. -

It takes money on their part to host that many videos and streams, and if you go there you will see there are no advertisements. Plus its good for people like me that can't afford a trip to Indianapolis to see Grand Nationals in person. -

You could subscribe to the BOA fan network. Its 40$ to access the archives, and $60 if you want to access the live streams as well. I sucked it up and just payed for it this year and it is well worth the price. -
USSBA Central Texas Regional Results

I remember seeing Wagner last year for a parade in San Antonio. We warmed up right next to them, and they produced some AWESOME sounds. With their colors, I mistook them for Churchill for a long time. Wagner is a band I would not mind seeing in some higher level competitions. Glad to see my Alma Mater beating other schools in our district too, despite being in a lower class. -

Haha, my comment was kind of a joke that a LD Bell intimidates even University bands . Were loud as crap, so we should do fine -

I was surprised by John Marshall's placement too. I asked a few members how they thought they did a couple hours after they performed, and they felt they did pretty good. They are also having issues with people not passing. Sadly I can probably name the ones who aren't. -

Block three is the best block top to bottom in my opinion. -
I wish I could make it down to Houston this weekend. It looks like a stacked competition, and it would probably be the only chance to check out my old high school live this year, but I am performing Exhibition in the Midlothian competition that night. I will try and say hi at the Arlington regional though. I will be working staff, but I hope to check out a lot of the competition. I have to agree with performing in competitions over football games. It is so much rewarding performing in front of a crowd who actually came to see marching band. Earlier this season the UTA Marching Band did half time for a Cowboys preseason game. The attendance was roughly 72,000 people, and I have to admit that the applause we got was extremely disappointing. The applause we got last year at our "big hit of the show" at any competition was louder than 72000 at Cowboys Stadium. And we were no where close to being considering a top tier band. I agree with what you said with directors rushing to put the closer on the field. I remember last year at the Arlington Regional we had the entire show on the field, but the closer was dirt. After getting a poor placement, it really put a dent in the very positive morale we had going for the season. It didn't quiet ruin the season, but it got us off to a bad start. Can anyone confirm if Spring is going or not? Someone in the Houston Regional thread said they are not. If there not, can anyone see a blood bath (figuratively speaking) for the 10th spo?. By the way, I lol'd at "If they don't get first they will get second, and if they don't get second they will get first"
