Winter Break

I listened to a couple David Burge Masterclasses. He emphasizes associating notes with color. Not Bb = Blue, but what the not 'feels' like. Like F# kind of had a twangy sound to it, or something along those lines. I think this is really what this guy had, and just tried to get people to do this even though they didn't have the natural ability to. I didn't learn anything through it. I found it ironic though that for a guy trying to develop perfect pitch in his customers, he speaks in such a monotone voice. I personally don't have this but it sounds really cool to have.

I know. The comics, however came out in the 80's or 90's. And the movie makers announce the movies a few years in advance. I was thinking maybe, maybe it had something to do with the upcoming movie.

Did it by any chance have any references to V for Vendetta? Maybe the band director was a fan of the V comic books, and wanted to commemorate the movie that came out the following year. Just an idea, I haven't seen the show.

I remember meeting some Marcus band members at the BOA Arlington concessions. Nice people. Its amazing how normal they are out of uniform. I expected them to be like....Gods and Goddesses.

When I become a band director I want my band to have a "Husky" sound and my color guard to have pretty, pretty flags. Man, this guy reminds me of the Kenny Rogers character on Mad TV.

John Marshall HS "Color, Sound, Motion" : For a video recorded by a band parent on the sideline, the quality isn't that bad. At this angle, you can truly appreciate how small our front ensemble is. I'm going to buy the BOA DVD of us soon.

They actually call themselves that. Me and my friends got a laugh out of it when the announced the "James Bowie Outdoor Performing Ensemble" at BOA finals. But hey, when your as good as they are, I guess you can call yourself what you want.

It is madness, especially since many stores offer a very good sale through the weekend.

Just playing devils advocate, but would those people ever consider the Saxophone? The sax is in fact made out of brass. And it is louder than any of the woodwinds. You can even get them in Silver Lacquer to match the rest of the bell-front instruments. Also it would be much easier for people to learn the sax, because the fingerings are almost exactly the same on flutes, and pretty similar to the clarinet. Although the transition from woodwind to brass isn't that difficult. I was learning Mellophone earlier this year for drum corp and I was making a good buzz the second day I had it. I gave it up though to focus on my sax and getting into college, ill pick it up again next year though. Also, from an argument earlier, if we want to technical on the names, DCI stands for Drum Corp International. Nowhere in there does the name include wind instruments. Its the corps themselves who call themselves Drum & Bugle Corps. Even as a Sax and Clarinet player, I don't mind the way DCI is. There's some things that are just meant for different types of music. You'll never see a brass instrument outside the Trombone and Trumpet in Rock music (or Ska), and very rarely in Jazz.

Im also thankful for one of the few days where I don't feel guilty about cramming my face full of food. I'm also looking forward to see the annual Thursday beat down of the Detroit Lions (I'm a lions fan )
