  1. The William B Travis show, Bravo, certainly was a crowd pleaser. Kudos to kids, the show's directors and designers for competing at a dynamic level with such a young band. The Travis program only has 1 way to go, and that is up. In 2009, the Travis Tiger Band lost 15 seniors to graduation, and picked up ~ 60 freshman. In 2010, they will graduate 30 seniors, and the 2 middle school programs that are feeding into the Travis zone (one of the MS's partially feeds into SFA) are stacked up with kids that want to play in the TTB. These guys will be a major force in a couple of years. Congratulations to all of the programs on their great seasons and shows, and best wishes to Marcus, Bell, Clear Brook, Bowie, TWHS, & Richland at Grand Nationals!
  2. I saw SFA's show last night at the FBISD Band Night. The richness of their sound, the precision of their drill, and the polish of their show puts Austin in a class with few peers. It was a very pleasant and entertaining performance. And there was some strange plot I couldn't quite follow with the Angel's costumes. I would need to see it again to figure it out.
  3. This was a fabulous event put on by The Woodlands Band and Booster Club. Kudo's for the great effort. We ran into a couple of kids from The Woodlands at lunch, and they were polite, energetic, and delightful to talk with. They did their organization proud! The Brazoswood band put on a great show, as did Westfield, Clearbrook, Friendswood, and Cy Falls. And those kids from Travis surprised the entire field with a 6th place finish with a band containing 12 seniors. Wow! Where did this band come from? How good will they be in a couple of years? It will be fun to watch......
  4. I watched Austin, Travis, and Clements tonight at the FB Band Classis. Wow! SFA hasn't lost a beat from last year, despite loosing a ton of seniors. All they have done is reload. The Angels were awesome as usual, and the program was quite inspiring. Not bad at all for missing 6 days of practice due to Hurricane Ike. They should easily be a top 5 school at Houston regionals, and don't forget, they are the defending champions. They are not going to lay down for Bell. I can't say enough about the progress that young Travis has made in the past 3 years. They have gone from second place A in 2006 to first place AA in 07 at the Houston Regionals to competing on Saturday in their first AAA division in BOA. They certainly don't have the size and raw talent of their big brother school SFA, but don't be suprised when they turn a few heads. From what I hear, this band is heavy on underclassmen, and they will be a force to recon with in a year or two. A very enjoyable show. Clements has the largest band in FBISD. They have great sound, polish, and precision on the field. They are a definite finals possibility.
