  1. Way to go Poteet... go for 3!
  2. I havent been to a BOA since 2005, and wow things have changed. I noticed most bands started early, and had a "pre show" before the announcer started, which is a whole lot better than marching out to a cadence. Also, I noticed how bands this year played kinda soft. I was used to bands playing extremely loud to get a crowd reaction, but, it truly showed off their playing abilities when they play at a nice volume. Bowie on the other hand, it made me like the show cause it was loud, but it is quality over loudness most bands are doing these days... which is good. Marcus by far had the best sound, Bell had great visual/GE and TW.. I had no clue what the #'s represented but the music was nice. Congrats to all
  3. Hebron 06 actually fit kinda well.. it was awesome at the end to see the whole band turn 4 times and do some jumping jack thing and then stand up and ...done didn't fit very well this year.
  4. What I seem to notice most people like a show based on sound and how the show looks... but its not just about having a loud jaw dropping sound and a drill that moves around, up and down and dancing and flip flops.... Its about having a clean drill, on time, and clean sound that is music.. not just loud jaw dropping moments like some have. All bands in finals were great, and some from prelims as well. And about Hebron, its sad I didnt get to see it again but at the same time I think their scores will lack in music (ind mostly) and GE. I do believe if they focused on the music and drill more than the "flare" then it could possibly be one of the best.
  5. I honestly think Berkner is on a rise. They come from one of the best school districts for music. They have been honor band 3 times and been in the top 7 more than I can count. Since 1998 Berkner has advance to state every year.... 1998-7th, 2000-7th, 2002-3rd, 2004-14th, 2006-9th. In BOA 1995 2nd place to Spring, At BOA Arlington 3rd in 2002, 9th in 2003 and 10th in 2004. I could go on and on... Berkner was a classical symphony on a marching field. Excellent music, ok marching..no visual.. crappy guard.. etc etc. Music alone cant get you into the best of the best. But it seemed to be just enough for UIL, but lacked at BOA some. But, they are in a new direction I believe, and its not just cause I went there blah blah. I seriously think Mr. Troyka could totally change the band around. They are already musically shaped to succeed, but now he needs to work on the visuals and marching aspects. In a year or 2 the contracts on the uniforms will be up, and he can get his own image that he wants, and succeed from there. His way of teaching, and his knowledge will take any band up to be recognized. I just cant wait for him to pull it off! Oh and some more bands I would like to see to get more noticed and I think will be someday are Rowlett, Allen, and Brazoswood.
