  1. That's funny. I was sitting in the Poteet section and this most certainly did not occur. The kids were understandably disappointed (defending a title is a thankless task), but the band and parents alike were good sports. Many gave Dripping Springs a standing ovation when they were announced.
  2. Wow. Go Plano East! Also.....why are there 12 finalists?
  3. After rain delays, Region 3 3A/5A FINALLY happened last night 3A: Canton: 1-1-1 Commerce: 1-2-2 Crandall: 2-2-2 Eustace: 2-3-2 Kaufman: 1-2-2 Kemp: 1-2-1 North Forney (NV): 1-2-1 Quinlan Ford: 2-3-3 Rains: 1-3-2 Wills Point: 1-1-1 5A Berkner: 1-1-1 Garland: 1-1-1 John Horn: 2-1-2 Lake Highlands: 1-1-1 Lakeview Centennial: 1-1-1 Mesquite: 1-1-1 Naaman Forest: 1-1-1 North Garland: 2-2-2 North Mesquite: 1-1-1 Richardson: 1-1-1 Rowlett: 1-1-1 Sachse: 1-1-1 South Garland: 2-2-2
  4. I resent that statement having done just that all through high school!
  5. Why on earth would a college marching band TA be judging a contest of this caliber?
  6. Should have stayed that way in finals too! :stillbitter:
  7. Granted I was not at this contest, but I don't see how this is even remotely justifiable unless the Westlake program has taken a sudden turn for the worse. Same goes for Coppell's individual music score.
  8. My finals predictions in alpha order Dripping Springs Forney Friendswood Hays Hendrickson Legacy Newman Smith Poteet Roma Wakeland On the Bubble: Azle, Dawson, LBJ, Saginaw, Southwest, Waxahachie
  9. I think Forney's in unless the brass gets too carried away. They are LOUD, which could kill them in the dome if they aren't careful. Wakeland and Newman Smith seem likely as well. I haven't heard anything about Roma this year, but three finals appearances in a row speak for themselves. I would love to see Hays back in state finals and it looks like it could happen.
  10. Both came in first in their areas. I have seen Poteet several times this year and though I was worried early in the season, they were really great in both area performances. It's a hard show and they still have some cleaning to do, but I think they're in good shape. Haven't seen Friendswood, but I have a feeling that this will be their year. They've been so close the past three state cycles. I know they're ready to finally win the thing and I would love to see it happen.
  11. Full Area C results: Prelims: Poteet 2 1 2 1 1 Forney 1 3 1 2 3 Waxahachie 3 2 3 4 2 Rockwall Heath 4 6 4 3 6 J. J. Pearce 6 4 6 5 4 Lindale 5 5 9 9 8 Midlothian 9 10 11 8 5 Red Oak 13 9 5 6 13 Longview 7 8 14 13 7 Rockwall 8 13 10 7 17 Ennis 14 11 12 11 10 Highland Park 16 14 7 12 11 Royse City 12 16 13 10 12 Jacksonville 15 12 14 14 9 Sulpher Springs 10 7 18 15 16 Mabank 11 17 8 18 15 Greenville 19 15 16 16 19 Mt Pleasant 17 19 19 17 14 Thomas Jefferson 18 18 17 19 18 Finals: Poteet 1 2 1 2 1 Forney 2 1 2 1 2 Waxahachie 3 3 4 3 4 Rockwall Heath 4 5 3 4 7 J. J. Pearce 5 4 6 5 3 Midlothian 6 6 5 7 6 Lindale 7 7 7 6 5 Great contest. The scores reflect how clear cut the top three were. All three gave very impressive performances. I had seen Poteet and Forney before and both made significant improvements in the past few weeks, especially musically. Forney has finally figured out how to control that massive sound. Very exciting and cleverly constructed show. I worry about how it is going to transfer to the Dome. If they aren't careful in there, the music could get very sloppy. However, if they perform like they did last night I fully expect to see them in finals. Poteet seems to be on a similar trajectory to 2007 in performance quality. They should peak at the right time, but I don't know if it will be enough to win again. The musical book is a little out of their comfort zone, but it is very cool. Waxahachie is clean and plays well. The music is a mash up of Poteet 97 and 99 which I quite enjoyed! If they keep up the good work I don't think state finals is out of the question. I was also impressed with Pearce. They were practically a different band from what I saw at Plano East.
  12. Area E: Brenham Waller Congrats to everyone! Can't wait for the 3rd!
  13. I'm really excited to see Hays back at state for the first time in ten years. They were a serious 4A powerhouse through most of the 90's. Word through the grapevine is that they were first in prelims. Any confirmation on this?
  14. Area G: 1. Roma 2. Calallen 3. King 4. Edcouch Elsa 5. Alice Alt Boerne Champion Only thing missing is Area E!
  15. Area C: 1. Poteet 2. Forney 3. Waxahachie Other finalists: 4. Rockwall Heath 5. J. J. Pearce 6. Midlothian 7. Lindale Midlothian and Lindale flip flopped between prelims and finals. Otherwise the rankings stayed the same. Poteet is marching 13th in state prelims.
  16. Having seen them this year I think they are definitely in the running for one of the lower finals slots. '07 was an anomaly for them. They're a longshot to advance though.
  17. Joshua, Crowley and McKinney are probably in contention for finals spots as well as those bingogooberman listed. It will be a really interesting contest with tons of potential upsets. Agreed. They should really dissolve Region 25 and put Plano back in Region 24 and the rest of them back with Region 3 in Area C. This would only get rid of Sherman and the McKinney schools on the 4A front, but it would even things out a bit.
  18. Didn't go to the contest. However I have heard nothing but glowing praise from friends who were there, especially on the musical front.
  19. Does Centennial have the whole show on the field yet? I know they didn't at region....
  20. Area C Prelims 11:30 Highland Park 11:45 Poteet 12:00 Greenville 12:15 Rockwall Heath 12:30 BREAK 12:45 Rockwall 1:00 Forney 1:15 Lindale 1:30 J. J. Pearce 1:45 Sulpher Springs 2:00 BREAK 2:15 Midlothian 2:30 Longview 2:45 Mt. Pleasant 3:00 Jacksonville 3:15 Waxahachie 3:30 BREAK 3:45 Red Oak 4:00 Midlothian 4:15 Royse City 4:30 Thomas Jefferson 4:45 Ennis 7 to finals, 3 to state. Here's what I'm thinking... Finals (in prelims performance order) Poteet Rockwall Heath Rockwall Forney Lindale Waxahachie Midlothian Bubble: Highland Park, J. J. Pearce State: Poteet Forney Waxahachie Alternate: Lindale
  21. I only say this having seen Sherman at Plano East and after hearing nothing but raves for Newman Smith and Wakeland at the Region 24 contest. Granted a lot of things could have changed over the past couple of weeks, but Sherman just doesn't seem as strong this year. They are definitely still in contention for advancement, just not at the top of the heap this time.
  22. With only four spots in Area B, I actually wouldn't be surprised if Sherman didn't advance. I'm feeling Aledo/Birdville/Newman Smith/Wakeland at the moment. I can't believe area is already this Friday!
  23. Region 3 1A: Cross Roads: 2-1-2 Fruitvale: 3-3-2 2A: Caddo Mills: 2-1-2 Cooper: 2-1-1 Edgewood: 1-1-2 Grand Saline: 2-2-2 Malakoff: 1-1-1 Scurry-Rosser (NV): 3-3-2 4A: Forney: 1-1-1 J. J. Pearce: 1-2-1 Mabank: 1-1-1 Poteet: 1-1-1 Rockwall: 1-1-1 Rockwall Heath: 1-1-1 Royse City: 1-1-2 Terrell: 1-2-2 West Mesquite: 1-2-2 3A and 5A march this Wednesday
  24. I agree with you Cgrad. Forney has a legit shot at advancing for the first time and I am very excited for them. They have a really great show this year. My one concern is that while they have an impressive volume, they play past their best sound often. The music judges could potentially nail them for that. The visual package, however, is very good. I am very curious about Waxahachie this year after their impressive honor band placement. Rockwall Heath is also on the upswing and should be a contender. Pearce was kind of a mess at Plano East, but they have historically struggled throughout the season only to peak at area(though the 1-2-1 at region is a bit worrying.) Lindale is another question mark as they don't tend to compete with the other Area C folks until area day. They came out of virtually nowhere to take the alternate spot in 07. This will be an exciting area to watch once more!
  25. Still kind of scratching my head over finals results. Very strange contest...
