Concert Season 08-09
C1Sherman2010 replied to borchnork's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
Sherman High School Wind Ensemble is playing: "Overture to Candide" - Berstien "Scenes from the Louvre" - Norman Dello Joio "Moorside March" - Gustav Holtz Pretty good stuff! I am hoping to make the Area and maybe State level for Honor Band this year. We are sounding really good! -
Well, I am sorry for my sudden outburst against Poteet. They are a very good band and do deserve respect. I dont know, I guess I just am jealous of them always winning. I am sorry. and to Danpod I am sorry. I guess I am feeling that other people think that Sherman isnt a good band anymore since we got 10th in State and havent really done so well this year. I just really want people to think positivily about our 140 people band. I think it is more of a personal issue than what reality really is. Once again I am sorry for my ego. Weird enough, I was talking to someone who had graduated from Sherman in the 90's and they said that Poteet was their rival also. I dont know, they are just a good rival because they make us work harder. . I dont know if the rivalry will ever end as long as it is a safe and positive form of rivalry and not anger.

I wish Sherman was going again. We went in 2006 and it was amazing. That was our "state" because it wasnt a state year. -
To comment on Sherman's performance, since I am from Sherman, I thought that we did very well. We have had a very interesting year however when it came to scoring. Some I agree and some I dont. It has taken Sherman this year a lot longer than usual to get at its peak. Ther were obviously things that could have improved the show, but it was the best performance we have had this year and heck I am proud of it. But be warned, next year, Sherman will be THROWING DOWN onto the field! It will be my senior year and I will be hecked if I am going to be 10th at state again. Yes I loved our show last year but I really want to beat Poteet, no offense to any Poteet people, but it is time to pass on the torch! ! You better be practiceing hard because Sherman will be making its come back next year. Sherman is still one of the best 4A Bands in the state of Texas! Remember that.... Sorry, back to Centennial! We got 7th AGAIN! Somehow, Sherman likes 7th place at invitationals....idk why! . Not next year though. I honestly thought that either Wylie or Plano East Senior High should have been Grand Champion! I was completely jealous that Poteet did Blue Shades though, but that was the only excitment from that show. Their marching didnt look difficult, even with their jazz run.

Hey! A friend of mine and I are going (my predictions, dont know yet) to be section leaders next year. He was already section leader and I was drill assistant but our other section leader who is a senior is graduating this year. That makes it that he and I are going to be section leaders together. I have this policy of "Do it right or run". Obvioiusly I am not going to be doing that during Fish Camp and the first few weeks of Band Camp, but at least once school starts, they should know how to march and I should not have to tell them over and over, thus the "do it right or run" policy works . Because I wasnt section leader this year, I can really do punishments. What should I do to become an effective section leader that gets the section to do as he says and to do it right but to also have fun? I am a very loud and fun person! I really want to have an amazing senior year and state year (yeah, you will see Sherman at State in 2009 !!)! Please, any imput!!! Sign, Chase

Centennial Marching Festival

To start off, being from Sherman, our prelims performance was NOT our best. Our finals was really good, but I think that judges combinded the two scores from prelims and finals to come with the finals placement. We got 7th! Sherman always gets 7th at weird competitions, but at UIL stuff, like Region and Area, we do really good in the placement. -
do i have to explain! Bb Clarinet is the most dynamic, most used instrument in the instrument field besides trumpet (whom are cocky....but we all know that). plus, I play Bb Clarinet, so it is of course my favorite!
-
I like blue box Vandoran 4's, but recently I have been playing on Ricatto Gold (NOT RICO) and they respond really nicely with I really good sound.
-
NEVER EVER EVER tune a Eifer (Eb Clarinet...what Sherman calls it), Obe and Piccolo at the same time! It HURTS!

I see that everyone has like Beginning Band, Upperclassmen, and stuff like that under their names. How do you change that?

4A UIL state
C1Sherman2010 replied to the terminator's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
Well, I am from Sherman, and I hope we make it to the finals. Here are the bands I think will make it to the finals at 4A State: (no particular order) Sherman Poteet The Colony Aledo Birdville (but I thought that they were alternates....) Like i said, I am from Sherman, so I will have a bias to my band, but I was surprised at Aledo and there performance. Last night at the Frisco Centinial Open Class, Sherman (i am speaking for the band) did not have a good prelims, which may have hurt our finals score. We had a really good finals, but i think that prelims scores combined with finals lead us to 7th last night. Weird how Sherman ALWAYS get's 7th in any other competition than UIL Region, Area and so forth. I was SOOOOOO happy when we got 1st in Area, but that doesn't count anymore. And if people are going to judge Sherman on what happened @ Frisco, think again. I was really suprised at the Colony. Small band, but good sound. And of course, Shermans rival, Poteet. Fair warning to them, watch out (friendly competiton right)! Poteet always has a clean show, but the marching format is always similar every year; triangles, follow the leader horns down thing, flags never toss, there little turn that is in four counts, and the ever famous drum major walk. It may seem as if I am bashing on Poteet, but they are a good band obviously, but they repeat alot of things! I have nothing really to say about Birdville. I have only seen them once this year so far, and they were good. I am just excited to be going to the Alamo Dome, so see ya on Tuesday competitors!!!
