we actully played "october" during our marching show this year.. it was the first time i had even heard of whitacre. after playing hearing october, i looked into him and he is easily one of the greatest composers i have heard. i fell in love with his music immediatly. -
Best Rising Bands in the State

i spent my freshman year at Mansfield. personally now that i look back, i see that we werent that good. but i went back a week or 2 ago to go watch them at the UIL Region competition and they have gotten about 150% better in just 2 years, im hoping to see them rise to the top soon. -
have you ever dropped anything on the field before, during, or after your show? it can be a real embaressment when you do lol At Springtown we do this thing where the drum major shouts "Band are you ready?" and we reply (as loud as possible) "Always ready sir!", and then we pop up to attention as fast and cleanly as we can. this year at the UIL Region competition when we popped up to attention i looked at my horn because i saw something was wrong because it looked like something wasent where it should be. sure enough as i looked closer i saw that my horn HAD NO MOUTHPIECE. About 4 seconds later when we were about to step off, i see this big shiney silver thing plop onto the ground in the middle of the pit about 3 feet away almost hitting a marimba. it then rolled back and hit the person standing next to me and hit him in the foot. As we were marching backwards to our second set to he said to me "You dident just do what i think you did, did you?" during that same show at region we have a set where the brass stands in a really tightly squeezed area (about a half step away from everyone around you) and we form a leaf. well we had a baritone player whos hat wasent on tight enough, so it had started to tilt to the side due to the wind in that wind tunnel you call Denton ISD Stadium. (and those that have marched in the Denton stadium know what i mean when i talk about the wind effect that stadium has) and sure enough as we were stepping out of the leaf, his hat got blown off and plopped on the ground right in the middle of the brass block. he had to march the rest of the show hatless, and it nearly got ruined because of all the people tripping on it.

Injuries

on our field....we have a pole. yes, a giant light pole on the right 35 yard line. coincidently, we had a set last year which involved 4 people at 1 step spacing changing spots at a really fast rate (more or less) i had to backstep around the pole, side step around it, then take a huge step back infront of it to complete the set (it looked like the group of 4 should be dancing). 1 time doing the "doe-see-doe" as we called it i dident step to far back enough on the first step, and ended up cramming my foot into the pole on the following set causing a sort of domino effect through out the 6-8 person group surrounding me, as we all fell down we had a baritone player fall on my ankle and it nearly broke it, all the while hitting my head on the base that the pole sat on. and as if it wasent bad enough having to fight for your life when your around that pole, during shows on the field... when there was no pole, we had to act as if it wasent there, so the months of training your feet to adjust to the pole had to be thrown out the window... but, i dont know what we could do without that pole. i feel like its a part of us now! -
Videos from this year
beachnutc2c replied to Mculbert07's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
here is the 2007 springtown show "The Four Seasons" unfortently the latest video i could find was taken during the fifth game of the year on september 28th. it includes everything but the last 7-8 sets of the show which are arguabley the best. several changes have been made since this video has been taken (primarily the trumpet player has the whole solo at the beginning, and the clairnet was removed. and the sets as mentioned earlier). if i can find a later video i will post it but this is the latest one to my current knowledge -
I miss going to BOA competitions... my Freshman year i went to Mansfield HS and I got to compete in BOA San Antonio... of course it was Mansfields first time in BOA so we dident do to great. but it was definetley a fun expierence... I never noticed how diffrent the life of a 5A band and that of a 4A were so diffrent until i moved lol

this year at the REGIONALS i lost my mouthpiece at the very beginning of the show.... We went to Ready position (the position between check and playing, since ive seen it called diffrent things in diffrent bands) and i guess i went to ready way to hard and my jaw nearly hit the floor as i peered upon a mouthpieceless trombone... like 4 seconds later i see this shiney white thing fly about 4 feet in front of me and plop onto the ground. I have never been so tempted to pick something up off the ground in my life... thank god i dident.

Congradulations to all bands that advanced to state!!! With my band being so close (5th place, and a tie for 4th at that) i really envy those that get the chance this year. Congradulations on all your hard work and dedication. (just wish we could be there with you, lol)
