One of these days, someone will decide to make a movie about this entire quest of yours. And it will be hilarious, up to the revelation of what Crockett '93 is, which will be lauded by critics as on par with the end of Memento and the revelation of who Keyser S -
2009 state

Wakeland might have something to say about your rankings...any band that can make BOA finals ahead of some strong, strong bands (and place in Finals ahead of Haltom, consistently one of the best 5A programs in the state) deserves some modicum of respect. I do agree, however, that those four (your three, plus Wakeland) are the top four. -
2009 BOA Arlington Regional

Check out the BOA Arlington replay over at TxBLive, and you'll get Sanchez's opinion. I can't say anything myself (I was in Houston), but if Hebron this year is anything like Hebron last year...y'all get some mad props from me. -

And I replied to the wrong thread regardless. I was talking about Arlington. That said, good call on San Antonio picks. -

Yep, it really is the single fall tradition that absolutely, positively, NEVER fails to happen. -
I would bump Hebron down to Tier 3 and replace with Haltom or Berkner. Hebron's director is now the director at Reagan, right? Or am I inventing things again? I don't think this one will affect them too adversely...but I would be a little more wary with them. And you forgot Martin and Fossil Ridge. Fossil Ridge could be a tier 4, but probably a tier 5 just due to performance time if nothing else. Martin should be a solid tier 5, as well.

Ballads or slow pieces

Santa Clara's treatments of Barber in 1999 (First Symphony) and 2000 (Agnus Dei [Adagio for Strings]). Whitacre's been used well on the field as well (Bell 2005 and 2007, Richland 2005, a whole lot of others). And I'm a sucker for Clair de Lune (Cedar Park 2007, Carolina Crown 2008, countless other renditions). -
2009 High School Shows

Danpod, which is worse: the fact that most of the people on here have probably never heard of that show... ...or the fact that I have? -

I think Southwest might actually be able to make the breakthrough to State this year. Last year was the first year they've had a true solid marching program, and they're still one of the top musical bands in the state. And they're doing Harmonic Journey this year. If they can pull it off, they deserve to go to State. I can't see them not achieving that show musically...and, at the very least, their visual can't be as bad as Phantom's was that year. -

Surprised this isn't here yet... LD Bell 2009: A Prayer for Light The Creation, Joseph Haydn Kingfishers Catch Fire, John Mackey Ethiopia III, James Horner Including original composition by Donald Hill and Bret Kuhn -
Post here if you have any knowledge of what corps will be rehearsing where, on what date, for any of the Texas shows (predominantly Dallas and Houston), and whether or not people can come watch.

nope...I think college assignments come out in two weeks, and roomie assignments the week after.

Fellow Rice guy here. Well, soon-to-be fellow Rice guy here.

I think they'll change enough things between now and, say, Dallas (I hope I hope I hope) that it hits championship-contender status. Then again, I distinctly recall people on a different forum in the second week of July last year opening up a thread specifically to discuss how out-of-championship-consideration Spartacus was. And we all know how that went down.

So, I figured I'd open up a new thread for everyone to advertise their spring/end-of-year concerts. Post what you're playing, and when the concert is. Invite the rest of us, if you want! Paschal has a percussion ensemble concert this Sunday, May 17th, at 7 PM in the Paschal auditorium. The percussion studio will be performing the following: Paschal Dances, David Gillingham Oblivion, Piazzola, arr. Smith, ed. Schietroma County Clare, Traditional, arr. Steinquist Short Circuits, Davila Sharpened Stick, Dietz Bayport Sketch, Spears The Paschal bands will be having a spring concert May 19th, also at 7 PM. I don't know the pieces for everybody, but I do know that the Wind Ensemble is, at minimum, performing: Vesuvius, Ticheli Selections from "The Lion King", Elton John
