  1. Paschal won this week, too! 2-0 for possibly the first time in school history! On a last-minute 62-ish yard touchdown pass right in front of the band! I can't stop using exclamation points! The 's on YouTube! The show wasn't completely awful, either!
  2. OK, I get that Crockett '93 was godly...but just how godly are we talking? Star '93 amazing? Spartacus 2008 amazing? Star '91 godly? Star '93 PLUS Phantom '08 PLUS Star '91 amazing? Is it even quantifiable? Details, people, details!
  3. Does anyone have a video of that sucker I can see? Everybody and their mother keeps talking about it in passing, and I'm like, "What is it?"
  4. Find a recording of Blue Devils 2001. Or pm me your e-mail and I'll send it to you (or try to).
  5. On one of the other forums I'm one, someone suggested making drum corps an Olympic sport. I mean, they already have color guard, basically...it's called "rhythmic gymnastics." The only problem with it is that you'd get nowhere close to the top people to do Olympic drum corps, because everybody'd want to join one of the DCI corps, and there's no way any of the top DCI corps are going to let several of their top people start learning a different show the second-to-last week of the season.
  6. I had to know minor scales on the fly during warm-ups by the end of rookie week freshman year (because our drum captain that year was a jerk).
  7. Better than us, man. We barely have half the drill for the opener written for us. One of the problems with contracting Youngblood to write your drill at the tail end of the summer, when he's getting into actual band-director duties at TCU.
  8. I always found that number humorous... My dad grew up in Corsicana. He remembers the good old days when there weren't 700 people in Allen.
  9. Alto sax solo (possibly tenor if our altos schmuck it up) in the ballad...that's pretty much it.
  10. Is not having the misspelling of "Seuss" held against her. And played an awesome show two years ago.
  11. Critiques others on their spelling...then misspelled "Seuss."
  12. Wonderful, hearing all these suburban kids complain about their athletics vs. band issues... Fort Worth hasn't put heavy money into the existing physical plant in twenty-some-odd years. For pretty much anything. The only major physical plant upgrade Paschal's had since the seventies was building on the new band hall, ROTC hall, and science wing eight years ago. And at least y'all have stadiums that were built after 1960 or so. Our biggest stadium was built during the Depression. And the other two aren't much younger. Thankfully, the ISD got the first bond package in twenty years passed last year. Hopefully it'll actually go somewhere.
  13. The entire ensemble (pit, battery, winds) played together for the first time this afternoon, doing the first movement. The quality of it scared the crap out of me. I mean, the winds took their first look at the first movement Monday afternoon (percussion got revised music Monday afternoon, as well), and we're already playing it full-ensemble at an average (we have four different tempos in the opener) of five bpm under tempo. And the winds have the music for second movement already (playing as a group alone; our percussion guy hasn't finished writing the last two movements), and third movement's going out Monday afternoon. I'm actually moderately scared at how well we're learning this stuff.
  14. SAME HERE!!!! Despite telling the five friends I had sitting around me to do it too!!! I was pretty much the only person treating it as a show, not a movie...it was depressing.
  15. Music-wise (the only part I know about, being in pit), the winds got the first two movements on Monday, and the second (the one I was able to sneak into wind rehearsal to hear) sounds pretty good (though sans solo for right now). Pit's surprisingly small for where we usually are (the past couple of years we've had fifteen or sixteen kids in pit total; this year we have nine), but sounding pretty good. Percussion only has the first movement right now (percussion writer churning it out as fast as he can), but we're cleaning it well and speeding it up. Lots of 16th-note runs at 168 and 176 = happily worn-out me = not-as-happily worn-out everyone else =/
  16. Just so I have everybody in my band that's going prepped...where in the closer does the "Vanguard!" yell come?
  17. The other ranking that was posted was the DCI "rankings"...you know, the ones with the averages of all scores for the past week.
  18. I would agree...but there are some groups you can guarantee will be in Finals. Like, you know with 99.9999.... % certainty that Bell is going to make Finals at whatever comp. they're at. Same with Marcus right now. Same with the Blue Devils, Cavaliers, Cadets, and Phantom at DCI Championships.
  19. even longer than that...Phantom's most recent performance before tonight was on Monday. Cavaliers (I think) had a show Thursday.
  20. Scores for Allentown, part 2: Phantom Regiment - 95.825 Carolina Crown - 95.400 The Cadets - 94.350 Santa Clara Vanguard - 91.700 Blue Stars - 87.250 Crossmen - 85.375 Colts - 83.650 Spirit - 83.450 Pacific Crest - 79.275 Pioneer - 74.000 Analysis: Phantom comes out of their five days off smoking...only .075 behind the Cavaliers for first going into Finals week. Blue Devils go from undefeated to third in two days, following a member suffering an aneurysm...just a bit depressing. Crossmen look to have locked up the last spot in Finals.
  21. BOA is weird. We signed up for Arlington around June of last year, and didn't get on the lists until they published time slots the week before.
  22. So...revised fast predictions for Arlington (correct me on any of these if I'm wrong): Guaranteed Finals Bands: Marcus Hebron Coppell Berkner Cedar Park Colleyville Heritage Any others to add to that list, of schools that will make finals, no matter what?
  23. Paschal's actually looking kinda OK...though we ARE coming off of two "perfect" seasons...riding a 26-game streak... We won two games back-to-back freshman year...people thought we might actually be "good." We haven't won since.
