  1. Even thought it was the first time I've seen Crown, I can definitely see that "getting serious" aspect; they were below SCV by only .05 point, and I was impressed by their visuals and drill (considering I usually pay more attention to the pit, that's saying a lot).
  2. I'm going! I'll do my best to say hi (if my paranoid mother will let me talk to strangers ).
  3. I went and I had fuuuuuuuuun! I was especially pleased to see my two favorite corps win 1st and 2nd place, respectively.
  4. I'm going! *dances* This will be the second drum corps show I've seen in 3 days!
  5. I will definitely try to come by to say hi. (And so will my mom .)
  6. The theme from "Pirates of the Caribbean". Probably because I was just looking at the PotC thread.
  7. Freshmen year we had an equipment bus for large instruments/guard stuff/battery instruments and another one for the pit. Now the pit gets a small truck with a motorized lift. Makes loading a heck of a lot easier, since the pit has to load their own stuff (although after performances the pit dads often help). We have a student loading crew that handles the stuff for the equipment bus.
  8. Ooer! I like it. It looks very official-ish and it's easier to read the black font... it has form and function!
  9. Wow, what a reality check: knowing that eveb a high-scoring drum corps can make mistakes. I do feel a bit bad for what happened to Cadet's snareline. The drumline is the metronome of the band/corps, and if something goes wrong with them it could spread throughout the entire ensemble! Like others, I can personally relate; one show we had a couple of years ago our back field drum major started at a different time than the head drum major. That was a mess.
  10. I hope what you're doing is better organized than what my band did on our spring trip. Instead of being in sections we were in teams based on "random assignment" (i.e. colored bandanas), and all we did were a handfull of silly relay games until lunch. I did not enjoy it.
  11. Bluecoats have the Cavalier's old staff, and the Cavies have SCV's old staff, and my percussion-fangirl basis is getting all confused. I'm sure it'll get straightened out when I hear all three corps at San Antonio.
  12. So Bluecoats' percussion has been beating the Cavaliers? As a percussionist and a hard-core Cavies fan, I find this intriguing. How much of these scores are determined by battery performance and how much by pit? I've never seen much of the Bluecoats, but I know that the Cavaliers' pit has a very good reputation.
  13. -Cypress Creek HS used to have marching pit equipment. -The Cy-Creek marching band got straight 1's at this year's Region UIL, the first time it's gotten straight 1's since the 90's.
  14. I'm coming to San Antonio (first time going to a DCI regional), and I really hope I get the chance to see some fellow TXband members!
  15. IN-teresting... For some reason the uniforms make me think more of a space army than machinery... but that's just me.
  16. For the band officers (President, Secretary, Historian, etc.), you'd fill out an application and then the band would vote amongst the candidates, but now all officer and band leader wanna-bes have to fill out applications before being appointed by the band directors.
  17. Sorry, we finished off the leftovers. Maybe the next time I graduate.
  18. I went... as a graduate . Part life-changing experience, part slightly dull school formality. The best part for me was afterwards when my family threw a surprise party for me, complete with out-of-state relatives and a catered lunch from Olive Garden. Definitely memorable.
  19. As a senior, I could exempt all my finals as long as I have a grade average of 80 or above and less than 3 absences in each class. However, I did have to take my English and Government finals because I was taking those classes as dual credit. (At least I still got to sleep in those days! )
  20. It is now official: our assistant director got the position of head director. One of the Cy-Fair directors is coming as the new assistant director, and what's interesting is that it'll be the first time Cy-Creek has had a female band director in a full-time position.
  21. Wow, I've never heard that one before. Alas, with each instrument comes its own stereotype, and thus its own league of band jokes. My personal favorite for drummer jokes: How many drummers does it take to change a lightbulb? "...Dude, is it dark in here??"
  22. Best band trip ever was my freshman year... LOS ANGELES. Disneyland, Hard Rock Cafe, Universal Studios, and on our Hollywood tour we visited the Kodak Theater the day before the 75th Acadamy Awards. 'Twas very awesome.
  23. Even good girls can have a dark side. Plus, combining my tree-hugging nature with those gas-guzzling beasts of machinery equals evil thoughts.
  24. As a pit percussionist I have no real opinion, but I do know that our percussion director prefers Evans drumheads.
  25. I'm not denying that it's possible. I just think it's completely unrealistic that this particular fact about Nick Cannon's character would go unnoticed for such a long time.
