  1. I was really hopping that Poteet was attending because i want to see how we can do against them out side of the uil judging format. Two years ago if im not mistaken they got second at Cenntenial and last year we got second. I think this year competition is going to be really interesting.
  2. ya the hole "trio" in question is just a high b natural to c trill for 16 counts while the pentagon in the drill does a zipper effect down into a five pointed star. tis pretty baller. I'm one of the soloist.
  3. There is a Trumpet solo and a Piccolo trio in the opener. In our ballad there is a small Brass Ensemble, 2 Baritone Solos and a Trumpet solo to close the ballad. There are also many battery solos throughout the show.
  4. ya i was really excited when i saw that we were going back this year. Getting second was pretty cool. especially it being our first time to attend last year.
  5. just wondering who all is going to Centennial this year. a little curious about the competition.
  6. now what are you talking about?
  7. I was extremely impressed with the quality of work that the Cavs put on the field this early in the season. They have a nice body of sound and the big cords are nice and fat. They could all around play more in my opinion though. There are a lot of drum breaks and pit moments. I would of liked to hear more from the winds. But in no way is the playing or the music weak. I just wish there was more to hear. Im very impressed with the drill design. Very fast paced, alot of straight lines, cool pass throughs, and cool GE. What else do you need? If they get those lines nice and straight and get the GE really clean this is going to be one power house of a show. I would expect the Cavaliers to be a really big power this year.
  8. Dripping Springs is doing a show based on the artistic renaissance in France. We are doing 3 movements based on 3 different types of art. First cubism, second impressionism, and third dadaism. For the 1st movement we are playing part of "The Rite Of Spring". The 2nd movement will be a Bjork instrumental that the Cadets used in 05'. And for the 3rd movement we are doing a song used in the 88' Velvet Knights show. Then in the Fourth movement its going to be a recap of the previous three movements and throughout the entire show we are going to quote a couple of French folk songs. Ex: the can can. Tis going to be sweet.
  9. SCV all the way!!!
  10. Anyone who is willing to wear white pants is a BAMF in my book. Also anyone with the SCV or Cavalier style hat.
  11. im doing a piece by Motzart called Sonata in F. this thing is nuts it goes 120bpm in cut time.
  12. i looked at the marching and music and gave each one a score based on 100 points. To simulate the UIL judging i took an average of the two but the Music was 60% of the final score and Marching was 40%. so that average is what you see on my post. also i had an error. Hendrickson was 4th and Dripping Springs 5th.
  13. Ok so i just got my finals dvd in from state today and im super stoked. i decided to watch the entire competition and score all the bands how i thought it should of gone. This is what i came up with. I did everything based on best out of 100 points so thats what the scores are. 1.Connally-98.3 2.Poteet-98.2 3.Friendswood-97.9 4.Dripping Springs-96.7 5.Hendrickson-96.6 6.Aledo-94.3 7.Dickinson-93.9 8.Vista Ridge-93.0 9.Roma-92.8 10.Sherman-87.2 Congrats to everyone who went. it was an great experience that i will never forget.
  14. Ya anyone who has the Cavalier/SCV style hat (Pasadena Memorial) is a BAMF in my book.
  15. ya i agree the a band can have easy drill and music make it as close to perfect as possible and they will always beat a band with a more entertaining show. a band that is better and takes risks with there difficulty of music and drill will almost always lose to the band going the safe way with easy music and drill.
  16. Ya cenntenial was a cool contest. But man Plano East was really good. And that was awsome seeing the 600 person band.
  17. I think if you have a good show and you put on a good show for the audience who care about your place. Its just a judges opinion. Leave the crowd with something to talk about.
  18. Trumpet takes some time. Even with third part in a corp you have to have some uber range. But good luck to you. Im doing euphonium for SCV.
  19. No im not from connally. Im just saying good job to everyone. But for them to jump from 5 to 2 is nothing short of amazing.
  20. Im learning how to play marching baritone just so i can try out for SCV in two years. its not that difficult. the big jump for a woodwind is you need to become adept at reading bass clef but besides that its not to hard.
  21. WOW!!! I just want to say great job to all the bands that made it to state on tuesday. It was an amazing experience. Go Connally! Represent Area D.
