  1. Some things that jump out to me- This is Cedar Park's 4th Caldwell Cup (highest score overall), having previously won in 2009, 2017 and 2020. I'm pretty certain this is the most of any school, though results from the 1990s are unavailable. Though the caption awards have no bearing on your actual placement, it's still notable that Cedar Park won without taking a single caption. Not sure I've ever seen that happen. Coppell has really established themselves as a drumline powerhouse in the last few years. After breaking through with a Caldwell Cup win in 2019, they haven't missed a beat. Also, their non-varisty handily outscored several other schools' top groups. Very impressive. Is John Horn back??? I'm sure many of you are aware that it wasn't that long ago that Horn had a brief but glorious run as one of the absolute best drumlines in the country from about 2012-2014, absolutely dominating this contest in those years. They fell off pretty abruptly after that, but this is unquestionably their strongest finish here since then. Lastly, as a former bass line section leader at Newman Smith, I have to shout them out for taking the bass caption here. Very proud!

  3. I believe Silver is for larger drumlines and red is for smaller. D1 are advanced and D2 are novice, though it's up to each drumline to choose between D1 and D2, so sometimes you'll see some pretty strong drumlines competing in D2 and vice versa. Did anyone happen to catch the D2 results?
  4. Forget grand nationals, THIS is the real climax of the marching season! The 29th Annual Lone Star Classic Drumline Contest is this Saturday at Marcus. Schedule below! This contest struggles a bit with attendance on years when Marcus goes to nationals because it's so late, but this is a pretty great line up! 5. Coppell and Marcus are the two to look out for from DFW. Hebron has historically been elite but their results at HEB/pdlc had them lower than you’d expect. Hard to say with FloMo as they don’t do many drum line contests anymore. Same with round rock. I imagine vista will be up there too.
  6. They did not, this will be their long long overdue BOA SA debut
  7. Mansfield Legacy that same year I think. Possibly also Forney and Hays but I’d have to go back and see if they’d qualified prior. Lake Ridge 2011
  8. Really surprised that creekview is only 2A, their enrollment numbers seem to be much lower than back when I was in school. Big congrats to them on taking music and medaling in class from a CFBISD alum
  9. Hello! i'm having a bit of an issue submitting predix for 6A Area H. I submit and it shows as having been accepted but when I refresh the page it shows that I haven't submitted anything. any idea what that could be? thanks!
  10. Here’s the results from the Don Hanna contest this weekend in Denton for any of you that were curious- https://static1.squarespace.com/static/5ac7df315b409b2587f87b15/t/6165f5863ca18252c08972ad/1634071942432/DHM+2021+Finals+Results.pdf 1- Mansfield 2- Legacy 3- Frisco Centennial 4- Anna 5- Little Elm 6- Melissa 7- South Grand Prairie 8- Denton Guyer 9- Denton 10- Lake Dallas
  11. Also in that Wylie finals video is lone star, who look the best they ever have by a lot. I think they make finals here
  12. Round Rock choosing to attend Westlake has never prevented them from reaching grand national finals in the past and it won't this year either ?
  13. I submitted predictions for midland but it looks like they didn’t go through, it just shows a blank list for my submission. Could I get a re-do? I’m trying to hold on to my top spot in the rankings LOL!
  14. Don't remember exactly but I'm fairly certain it went- 1. Plano East 2. Plano Sr. 3. Lone Star and beyond that, I don't know.
  15. Just popping in to say how impressed I am with what these schools have been able to accomplish under the circumstances. I was particularly moved by FloMo and their absolutely gorgeous arrangement of rocky point and by Hebron, whose show is undoubtedly the most musically ambitious I’ve seen from this years slate (shocker, I know) but I liked it mostly because I felt like it transported me back to the kind of show Hebron would have fielded 10-15 years ago (I’m so old ) Can’t wait to see how this turns out!
  16. Leander has never struck me as the type of band that changes their style all that much on UIL years anyway, they just put on the coolest Most artistic show they can regardless of the rubric they’re being judged on, which I admire
  17. I think matched grip is more popular in Texas than other places. Some see it as a cop out but I think traditional grip is needlessly cumbersome unless you’re tilting your snares, which itself is uncomfortable. Traditional grip does look cooler though lol
  18. it was the third part of a trilogy of shows that were loosely inspired by the rapture, with 2005's Ascension: Light of Gold representing the actual rapture, 2006's The Remaining (probably my favorite show ever- the drama! the power! the physicality!) depicting those who were left behind on Earth, and 2007's transcenDENTS (I can offer no insight into why the title was styled this way, but it was, lol) representing some kind of redemption for the remaining (i think?) The activity has advanced so drastically since then, but I don't think I've ever seen another show that was as cinematic and captivating as these shows were. Broken Arrow's come close a few times, and lately Reagan, too, but the guard member popping out of the white tarp at the end of The Remaining? Unmatched!
  19. congrats Vandegrift! They really stepped up their game this year and it payed off. To win grand nationals on their first go, place first across all three levels of competition, and nearly become the first Texas band to win visual in finals is such an incredible accomplishment. Also, they can still lay claim to the title of only band in America that Avon hasn’t beaten, lol
  20. keep in mind, a texas band has NEVER won visual in grand national finals. Vandy (or Leander!) could become the first tonight. Fingers crossed!
  21. Flo Mo def won’t go in 2020. They were originally scheduled to do nats in 18 as opposed to 17, but after 16 was such a debacle for all the state participants who were also going to nationals, the moved it up to 17, I believe at the districts request. They and Marcus will likely go in 2021
  22. Thank you!! Great show from them, they’ve improved so drastically over the last few years. Pretty remarkable stuff from such a small ensemble. Rainbow connection was stunning! I wonder why their membership is so low compared to similarly sized schools. Maybe their success will help with recruitment. It’s about time they start attending BOA, they would be firmly in the running for finals at just about any regular season regional
  23. I have yet to see highland parks show and my curiosity is killing me!! If anyone has a video please share!
