  1. I kind of think Keller will beat all 3 of them and snag their first regional title
  2. Don’t count out the woodlands- they were just barely behind Reagan in prelims last year and they usually have stellar design in nationals years. They do historically start slow, though
  3. Interesting to see my alma mater’s rival Creekview (Carrollton) make the trip out to this contest. This has to be their first BOA competition in 10 years or so. It was a major bummer to see them get a 2 at UIL a couple years ago, but this feels like a promising development for the program. I really hope they can make a good showing and get a bit of their mojo back (fun fact- they were SA super regional finalists way back in 2004) would die if Newman Smith joined them but I’m not holding my breath
  4. Nice to see San Antonio becoming more a destination contest, with more out of state programs making the trip. So far for 2019 we’ve got three out of state bands, already above the average, and all three are significant programs (Archbishop Alter, OH, Westlake, UT and dark horse for finals Vista Murrieta, CA) Anyone know of any others rumored to be making the trip?
  5. Marcus +1 Leander -1 Westfield 13 Leander 31 L.D. Bell 22 The Woodlands 33 Ronald Reagan 33 Richland 32 Marcus 10 Cedar Park 15
  6. Lassiter +1 LD Bell -1 Marian Catholic 14 Plymouth Canton 18 Centerville 2 Lassiter 19 Lawrence Central 14 L.D. Bell 72 The Woodlands 57
  7. Marcus +1 Richland- 1 Westfield 16 Leander 30 L.D. Bell 22 The Woodlands 37 Ronald Reagan 31 Richland 26 Marcus 9 Cedar Park 17
  8. I mean perhaps I’m reading too much into just how upset they were because I totally understand being disappointed at not having a finals placement, especially when it seems pretty clear they would have medaled, but I firmly believe there’s nothing else that could have been done as using their prelims score wouldn’t be fair and the only other option would be negating finals scores for all bands which seems a bit extreme, considering only one band got rained out. And after all, performing the show at such a high level is a reward in and of itself anyway, regardless of whether or not you’re being scored
  9. was Lake Travis staff actually upset with how TMC handled it or was that just speculation on here? Seems clear to me that TMC was only acting in the interest of the safety of Lake Travis students and that there wasn't really any other way to handle the situation. If their staff perceived it as some kind of slight or injustice, one that would make them not want to return, then that would just be silly, unprofessional, and unsportsmanlike in my humble opinion. I can only hope that that wasn't actually the case.
  10. yikes, just brushed up on the situation at north mesquite- hopefully they can pull through and have a great season next year, they soooooo deserve it.
  11. Allegedly Mansfield may attend, which would be very exciting. Definitely finalist caliber though maybe not a lock.
  12. interesting to see john horn tackle such a rigorous BOA schedule, even if they had a spectacular breakthrough year last year, it's not often a band goes from no BOA involvement at all to two out of town regionals and a super regional. very gutsy. i like it!
  13. Fingers crossed they can land the Baylor stadium for Waco this year. Also, I think moving Midland back to mid-season is a smart move.
  14. well nothing really, it's just kind of old. when there's so many pristine, giant stadiums in the area, HEB just isn't as flashy a choice. it does the trick though, it's a better venue than a lot of the stadiums they do out of state regionals in, particularly in SoCal.
  15. its also just a brand new, fancy stadium with a big upper deck. should be a fantastic venue, wish the Dallas regional were somewhere comparable instead of HEB again
  16. its on their twitter- and yes, all 67 are for band (5A, though, but still)
  17. I feel like there will probably be some under the radar surprise attendee(s) once the roster comes out in April.
  18. Yes! Best use of their massive guard to date, in my opinion. Also love the integration of the way we were and the replayed distorted dan potter announcement in the finale- just brilliant. wish they had been as musically strong back then as they are now.
  19. Seeing Marcus and LD Bell back to back at Arlington finals in 2007 was a mind-blowing experience- was in awe of their theatricality and skill. I hadn't realized marching band could be art before that. That's when I really went all in as a marching band enthusiast, and I think they remain two of the most exquisitely designed, impeccably performed shows in history. Plymouth-Canton 1999, Lassiter 2002, Ronald Reagan 2003, LD Bell 2006, LD Bell 2008, Avon 2009, Tarpon 2014, Hebron 2015 and FloMo 2016 are some others that stick out as real significant achievements. Honorable mentions The Woodlands 2013 and Carmel 2017. Also always thought Broken Arrow 2008 was totally genius but the execution just wasn't there.
  20. SFA managed just fine without one back in the day- i think that the visual demand of the dance team is still higher than most, even if they don't use equipment. I think visual design is what may be the biggest issue for them in terms of challenging for a win
  21. also, the Lewisville ISD schools are indeed on four year blocks- consider it law. FloMo only shifted to Marcus's cycle after UIL expanded the state contest to three days, thus making attending GNats and State in the same year unreasonable. Expect them both to attend in 2021.
  22. could see prosper going all in and just making this an annual tradition- they're talented enough and have deep enough pockets and district/community support. we shall see. Awesome news re: Coppell! Assumed this would happen eventually with the new staff.
  23. With regard to classification, I believe silver denotes larger drum lines, red is smaller groups. Division 1 is more advanced groups and Division 2 is intermediate- at least that’s the idea, I’m pretty sure schools get to pick between d1 and d2, which is why you see some groups in the lower class out scoring groups in the advanced class

Go basses! Their new percussion director is actually a friend of mine who lived across the hall from me in college, and I believe we were in a steel pan ensemble together as well. Obviously they're in great hands.
  25. Carmel deserves better than the way they’re being characterized here- there’s a reason they’ve gone back to back to back. Design is off the wall brilliant, execution is flawless. I hate three-peats too because they’re boring but Carmel’s earned it. And no, gn is not rigged in Carmel’s favor. This dominance is pretty new for them.
