  1. Geez, how many bands were at Area?! 7 get to advance? Wow.
  2. Um, I'm really not trying to be mean here, but I don't think UIL had anything to do with y'all placing so low. Paschal's scores are very consistent across the board. There's no judging error there.
  3. Hmm... the spread in points during prelims isn't nearly as bad as it usually is. For the most part, it's relatively consistent across the board, except for one or two bands. Much better than SFA four years ago getting a 3rd place and a 25th place vote in music at state...
  4. Marco is right here. Flower Mound has always had an incredibly good concert band, but their marching results have never really reflected their excellent concert band. As others have said, music is only one aspect of marching band.
  5. The Aquarium is also in the opening section of Beauty and the Beast! That's how I remember it.
  6. Thanks again, Mike! Always a pleasure seeing and comparing your results to the real thing. Man, your prelims placements were incredibly accurate!
  7. Argument? There was an argument going? I was completely oblivious to an argument. I thought we were just discussing it.
  8. Yea, I think it's 15-20 years. They had that looong 10+ year streak of never placing below second at any competition.
  9. Yea, I gotta admit, when I first heard of the DDR theme, I was really skeptical. Thought it was gonna be cheesy and stupid. Saldana faked me out at the end of my senior year, though. Said they were gonna do some music by Shostakovich and Tchaikovsky and do a russian based show about revolutions. Then I come back and watch the show and see DDR on the field. But it was awesome! I'm kinda sad that I've only seen Hebron this year. I wanna see more bands. Just don't have time to go to competitions.
  10. Haha, oh if I could go all day, I would. But I don't have that kind of time. I don't even know if I'll be able to make it out to finals... I HAVE to find a way to do that, though.
  11. Big gaps in scores between 1-3. 85.60 - L.D. Bell 82.15 - The Woodlands 79.85 - Stephen F. Austin 79.30 - Winston Churchill 78.75 - Clear Brook 75.80 - Cypress Falls 75.60 - Spring 74.15 - Brazoswood 72.80 - Friendswood 72.55 - Hendrickson Outstanding Music Performance - L.D. Bell Outstanding Visual Performance - L.D. Bell Outstanding General Effect: L.D. Bell
  12. Hehe, I just noticed that the top 3 from BOA Arlington all won their respective competitions this week. Marcus won Plano east. Cedar Park won Westlake. Hebron won Birdville. SA Super Regionals is shaping up as one of the most epic bloodbaths in the history of marching band, especially since Westfield didn't make finals at Houston and Hendrickson and Friendswood both did.
  13. Should be getting close to that time... They're probably starting to file in for retreat now.
  14. Wow, Keller over Sachse. Didn't see that coming. Also didn't expect Sherman to be down at 9th. Did they not announce scores?
  15. Placements are coming out on txblive. I'll post them here for you lazy folk. Colorguard: Flower Mound Percussion: Flower Mound General Effect: Hebron Visual: Hebron Music: Hebron 1. 91.9 Hebron 2. 88.6 Flower Mound 3. 88.5 Mansfield 4. 87.8 Legacy 5. 82.4 Argyle 6. 81.1 Newman Smith 7. 78.8 Richardson 8. 77.3 Carroll 9. 74.1 Central 10. 72.9 Boswell
  16. Yea, I had both Westfield and Langham Creek in as finalist locks. Congrats to both Hendrickson and Friendswood for making finals! It's been a while since 4A groups have made it past prelims here in Texas and it's a nice sight!
  17. Yea, I thought Hebron was going to go first because of homecoming. I hope they performed well enough to maintain the first place lead!
  18. Anybody able to fill us in on this competition? Finalists? Times?
  19. Haha, precisely! The concept of the show was really cool. I thought it was kinda like Monsters, Inc. in the sense that there were monsters behind doors. The guard costumes were outrageous, though. Gigantic purple dinosaur-looking things. Probably my favorite show I marched at Hebron.
  20. Haha, it's always funny to hear someone play the same piece on the field. The absolute worst, though, was right after Pirates of the Caribbean came out... I don't know how many bands had that show. At least 10... at every competition. I do remember my sophomore year, however. We played a piece by Shostakovich called October. I'd never heard this piece before and don't remember it being played on the field, ever. I could be very wrong, though. The year after we played it, I believe Coppell or Grapevine put it on the field. We were all lk, "wtf, mate?!"
  21. Andi, in response to the music copying thing, Hebron was certainly not on the front edge of anything. Dancer in the Dark by Bjork is an oft performed piece on the field. Lots of bands do it. Lots of drum corps do it. So Hebron was actually COPYING somebody. Same goes with our Fused show and Bela Bartok's Concerto for Orchestra. We actually jacked that show from Phantom Regiment, I believe. Some of the visuals and what not come straight from that drum corp's show. But I gotta admit, the whole Haltom footwork DDR thing was really funny and highly suspicious. I remember Mr. D at area saying "Oh... They cheated!" I think there were like three or four bands with the same type of footwork aspect in their show at Area B 2006.
