  1. Has no mack to hate on...
  2. But in a situation like BOA with field judges and individual music performance scores, that could seriously hurt the band if only half of them play. I'm sure the judge walking around would ask questions as to why every other trumpet is playing.
  3. Likes wearing aviator glasses despite the fact that they make him look g... ...great!
  4. I never liked that "shoot for the moon" thingy. Because the moon is really close... Stars are really far. Shouldn't you shoot for the stars and hope you land on the moon?
  5. The H set was brought about by Marc Whitlock. When he came down here from Marian Catholic, he brought along with him their M set, changed, of course, to the Hebron H set. Once Andy Sealy took over, he slowly began to phase that one out, considering it wasn't really our tradition. Although I must say that the H in "The Other Side" came at a perfect time in the closer. Probably the best H we've ever had. Also probably the last time the H was actually very visible.
  6. haha, it's all good. Jackson Academy is probably the pinnacle of a tiny band beating out big bands. 1993 GN was special because of Spring 93's incredible groundbreaking show and Jackson Academy laying a hurt on a bunch of big bands, most notably Duncanville.
  7. I swear, every year all the directors get together and plan out themes for the year. Each year there is always something that is consistent across many bands in the state.
  8. You just reposted the exact link I posted three spots above you.
  9. This is a good regional. Ouch for B-wood having to go first at 8:30. I still expect them to make finals, though. Brazoswood HS, TX Spring HS, TX Westfield HS, TX Clear Brook HS, TX Winston Churchill HS, TX Langham Creek HS, TX Cypress Falls HS, TX L.D. Bell HS, TX The Woodlands HS, TX Stephen F. Austin HS, TX There are a lot of bubble bands. Most notable are Klein, Pearland, Hendrickson, TW College Park, and Friendswood. I think this regional is much more difficult than the Arlington regional a week ago.
  10. Not only similar talent, but that talent is among some of the best in the state. For 5A, you've got Marcus, Bell, Hebron, Richland, Haltom. Those were the five advancing two years ago. Those are big named bands in Texas. 4A Centennial, Colony, Southwest, Newman Smith (remember, they got alternate to 5A state) and Sherman. There's a lot of raw musical talent in the DFW area.
  11. Hahaha, Xenon. I actually laughed out loud. Well done. And yea, I do like the fact that Hebron has something that they're known for now. I remember during my years, we always talked about starting traditions. It's nice to see that our tradition of body movement has caught on.
  12. I always thought that marching about 160-190 total was a great size for a band for exactly the reasons you said. Big enough for a big sound and small enough to get really clean.
  13. All you have to do to prove that band size is often obsolete is look at Grand Nationals every year. Tarpon Springs has maybe 80 marchers total and are a consistent GN Finalist. LD Bell on the other hand, probably doubles or close to triples their numbers and are also a consistent GN Finalist. Band size doesn't affect it as much as you think so. Case in point: GN Finals 1993. Duncanville places 9th behind Jackson Academy. Jackson Academy is a TINY band. I think they had MAYBE 40 kids on the field. You can even see the video here. http://www.jacksonacademy.org/NetCommunity...6&srcid=915
  14. Yea, I was at the Parent Preview and noticed a lot of places where body movements would be added. I haven't seen the show since then so I'm pretty eager to. I think I'll be at Area Finals.
  15. Haha, I remember talking with one of the directors over the summer. I randomly saw Mr. Saldana at the Qdoba near Hebron. He told me that the show was going to be radically different from past years. The group I was with (also Hebron alumni) all agreed that this was probably a good decision. In all honesty, I really didn't like Waves. The Soulja Boy was just... terrible. Music in Every Direction was sweet, though! I'm starting to like this year's show. I think that Hebron is starting to play better than they ever have. The drill this year doesn't quite have the flare of past years, though. I heard that there are 90ish pages this year as opposed to almost 130 last year.
  16. A tip for trumpet players? Stop playing trumpet.
  17. Haha, the forwards clip just sounds like they're speaking German. And what does the female say at the end?
  18. MFA shafted us! Recaps were supposed to be posted today. Well, technically, they still have forty-five minutes, but I'm pretty sure they're not coming up...
  19. Ok, that's what I thought it was. I just wasn't really sure.
  20. really likes posting in this thread
  21. Wait, is that the list of bands competing at Area B? I thought several groups haven't even had UIL Region yet. Why, oh, why does it have to be all the way out in Pennington Field... I was hoping it'd be closer to me in Carrollton...
  22. Cool, thanks for the look-over. I think I got Keller mixed up with Klein, and I could've sworn Friendswood made one... but I must be mistaken. I'm not really sure why I put Lopez and Georgetown on the list. I knew they haven't made a BOA final yet. Are Spring, Cypress Falls, and Pearland attending the regional? If so, it makes this regional even more stacked. Lots of bands with knockout potential. I dare not make predictions until later in the season.
  23. Hmm, not a bad lineup. No Marcus this year, so it kinda opens it up a bit. I see Hebron running away with this one. Other finalists include Legacy, Mansfield, Newman Smith, Flower Mound, Carroll (is this Southlake Carroll?).
  24. Aledo Berkner Cedar Park Clear Brook Colleyville Heritage Friendswood Georgetown Haltom Hebron James Bowie Judson Keller L.D. Bell Langham Creek Leander Lopez Loveland Marcus Martin Richland Ronald Reagan Stephen F. Austin The Woodlands College Park Westlake Winston Churchill If I'm not mistaken, this is a list of bands that have made a BOA Finals in the last two years. I think I got it right. It's about as stacked as I've ever seen it. Also nice to see our friends from Loveland, Colorado making the drive down here again.
