  1. i'm on my lunch break now until 1. but man this morning did we get some stuff done. (morning are only leadership and freshman, 8-1130) They're really starting to grab ahold of marching. I even got my section to win best section and had the "best freshman marcher" award in my section yuhhh
  2. haha I definitely don't mind NOT being a BOA band myself. I actually am kind of proud we havn't got sucked to it yet and stuck to our traditional marching band roots :]
  3. We played pines of rome freshman year. It was a cool piece, not my favorite htough
  4. yeah I only got 4 new freshman saxophones, they are pretty good i guess. I've been teaching them well. We got second today in the section contest. Flutes beat us :[
  5. yeah i understand that. I'm just stating the majority of BOA bands have props and seem to go for more of a entertaining factor than anything. But anyways I didn't really want to get into that, I was just interested in other bands that don't do BOA, like us. lol
  6. It really isn't as horrible as I jsut made it sound. Last year was a "transition" year and we still did quite well. And our assistant director became head director and we got a new assistant who is pretty much a genius so all in al lim happy with how it turned otu
  7. okay so im interested on your band and whether or not ya'll participate in BOA contests. I mean I don't mean to put them down or anything, but at my school we've always not really taken them seriously. You know directors always making jokes and stuff. I don't know much about these contests I just know a lot of the bands are very "propish" using lots of props and dancing and such. I mean it's entertaining and all but what happened to traditional marching band ??? and I know not every BOA band is like that and the top ones probably aren't. and I may be horribly misguided about BOA. But anyways back to my question, DOES YOUR BAND DO BOA??
  8. hahah that's how i felt when our head director left us for Wylie. made it even worse they beat us by one place at the only contest we saw them at last year. but it is what it is, and everything happens for a reason
  9. yeah! a lot of our "unmotivated" people decided to drop band this year. And we're finally back to our size of about 160. Only had 110 last year because of a new school opening! Our freshman are okay, of course need a lot of work but i give it a week and they'll have it down well! and as for our show. OMG. I was absolutely blown away when I heard the updated MIDI file this morning for the opener and ballad. wow. loved it! and playing the music today was great. only with the woodwinds though. I can't wait till full music rehersals!
  10. omg yeah hate that well supposed to be sunny and 105 for us tomorrow! haha
  11. technically if it gets over "105" in our district could be statewide they're supposed to not be allowed to have practice outdoors. So we'll see what happens. But I know some days after school. (our practices run 330-530) its been over 105 and we still practiced but w/e. hahaha i still don't know whether to be excited or not ..... haha
  12. ahh camp starts tomorrow! gonna love this heat 8-8 yuhhhh!
  13. no haha i was being serious. it takes someone strong mentally to be good in marching. so many aspects. 150+ cordinate spots 8 minutes of music visuals fundamentals
  14. im rooting cavaliers all the way
  15. look at the mental ones ;P hahahhaha
  16. i play nearly everyday. but ive beat them all on expert so its not as fun anymore
  17. Yeah all I can say about ours is it's titled "insomnia" and includes works like grahams "harrison's dream" by far the most difficult music we've had. and no idea on drill although we're supposedly moving to more "contemperary" band because we've always been very traditional. no props and such
  18. hahaha yeah im not saying marching band is harder than football practice beacause it is not! I'm just saying people assume since it isn't a sport it is easy and it isn't. take the average american and put them out there to play an 8 minute show and they wouldn't be able to do it
  19. So I was at work today (target) talking and helping my manager load this couch into a ladies car, and he says "man I sure feel sorry for those football camps starting up next week, it's way too hot for them to be out there, they work so hard." to which i replied "yeah i feel bad for them, but I really feel bad for all the marching bands (explaining that it was a state year and camp was 8am-8pm everyday) He had the nerve to laugh at me. He said band does nothing and we just stand around out there. I don't know but it kind of pissed me off you know? Everyone just thinks marching band is so easy, but in reality it isn't and takes tons of strength and stamina. Nobody realizes how hard we work and suffer to be great. I don't know just thought i would share that! go marching band!
  20. let's play
