marchin essay
treyj replied to treyj's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
thanks. yeah this is jsut a rough draft. and no kidding i really really hate writing. but band is fun to write about :] haha -
Let me rephrase that. Not rookies and not all. Im just saying if you look at the stats, players who have been groomed behind a veteran quaterback then are suddenly thrown into the starting role, usually do well for a few weeks, then teams have film to study and their performance dips. Not to say it won't rebound. Tony Romo is a prime example, he played superbly in his first few starts then his performances took a plunge and then he rebounded.

So here is the essay I just wrote for english, I chose marching band just because it has had such a profound impact on my life. I'm no writer, but i just thought id share it Spotlights Those horrible, sizzling hot days of summer band. Rehearsing drill until your legs burn like someone is about to rip them off. Spending one hour on a simple forward marching fundamental. Doing marching show segments over and over until you are positively sick of the band director saying

darn my team is loaded!

1. This is high school football. 2. Aaron Rodgers isn't a proven QB yet he has started TWO games. First year starters always do well because there is no film on them for opposing teams to study. Now that he has two weeks under his belt I see the cowboys defense outplaying Rodgers. 3. Heck yeah I have DFS, i mean seriously who doesn't love the cowboys 4. It's going to be about the passing game and we all know the cowboys just have too much power on offense to lose this game. That being said it is going to be a good game.

mmm no offense. but it won't even be that close. Not like the eagles game at least. i say the boys have it in the bag by the 4th

Leadership
treyj replied to Liquid Midget's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
Yeah i'd say you choose the person who everyone is going to look up to, and listen to. character would have to be the biggest we look for in our band. Who is going to do the right thing all the time? There are many qualities that define a leader. And you don't necessarily have to have a title to be a leader. -
yeah i agree. and im definitely not trying to make an argument about props. I was just saying we're not a BOA band. Our show is designed to do well at UIL. I'm sure if we were going to compete at BOA or even BOA and UIL we would have to alter our show a little bit.

What shows have you seen?
treyj replied to longhornsax's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
i've seen mansfield south grand prarie mansfield timberview mansield legacy macarthur north crowley so far nothing really out there just some okay stuff -
yeah i completely understand. but i think that would be more of a distraction than anything on a state year. lol uil is looking for execution and such. not what boa is looking for. maybe on a non state year sure
-
our team got tossed around like a couple of girls last night. it was embarrassing. definitely not summit football. but oh well non district, no worries our band had a SUPER strong performance though so that was nice

Hurricane Ike
treyj replied to sakuradanc's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
Luckily it isn't going to effect us at all until tomorrow night sometime. I'm in arlington so we're just going to get lots of rain and hpefully it will be gone by mondays practice. good luck to all stay sage -
haha i guess you can look at it that way. But I mean some bands just have traditions of not really being a "BOA" band. And i;m not going to get into it. BOA is tight. We are just not a band that would do well at BOA, we're geared towards a more UIL oriented program
