  1. VERY impressed with Terrell, as well.
  2. Mesquite schools are exempt from awards since they are hosting the event
  3. Well, congrats to Community!
  4. 1) Mineola 2) Community 3) Irving 4) Terrell 5) James Bowie
  5. 10th = North Crowley 9th = Burleson Centennial 8th = Saginaw 7th = Mansfiled Summit 6th = Azle 5th = Boswell 4th = Highland Park 3rd = Euless Teinity 2nd = Mesquite Poteet 1st = Duncanville Color Guard = Highland Park Drum Major = Mesquite Poteet Percussion = Azle General Effect = Azle Marching = Euless Trinity Music = Duncanville
  6. Thank you! Evidently the UIL website needs to be updated
  7. WOW, that has me intrigued! Is UIL going to create a new Area? Or, at a state-level, possibly adjust the enrollment levels for the classifications drastically or add a new classification?
  8. Takigan - good job on picking the top 3 in Prelims! The Prelims scoring was all over the place, but Friendswood sure did make a fairly clean sweep and held their own. I am excited to the Finals results!
  9. Random order for Finals
  10. oh yeah...that was quite a shock! Poteet's show that year was just strange in my opinion. The musical selection just did not fit their style.
  11. Folks, this is going to be some competition! Hopefully the predictions will be up soon because I am curious to see what everybody's opionion is. I have an idea of who will probably make it into Finals, but it is going to be VERY close as to who will be awarded medals. I think most people are inclined to choose the more "experienced" bands, but there are some new kids on the block that will really make things interesting. My top 5 in random order: Friendswood, Hendrickson, Mesquite Poteet, Carrollton Newman Smith and Dripping Springs There are so many highly talented programs attending this year and I really feel for these judges
  12. I am glad you mentioned Waxahachie. I had completely forgot about them! I am sure they will be able to make it into Area Finals, so I will look forward to seeing them perform next Saturday. I also agree with you in regards to Forney's sound quality. At regionals last night, there were a couple Trombones at the end of the 1st movement that got a little carried away. I am on the verge of saying that Forney may have been a tad bit louder than Poteet; however, Poteet seems to always manage hitting a high volume with such a full and controlled sound....you can tell these students are taught to listen to one another while performing. I saw JJ Pearce last night, as well. Honestly, I did not get any goosebumps at all and was disappointed, considering they placed so high in the State Prelims in '07. It's almost as if history is repeating itself....Area C is getting interesting again. It looks like Poteet has a new rival (Forney). Coppell is the first one I remember and then came Sherman. I just hope this will evolve into a rivalry where there is mutual respect and friendly competition.
  13. Here are the final Rankings for this contest. **note** all 5 Mesquite ISD High Schools are ineligible for awards - they only compete for ranking and ratings. 1) Rowlett 2) Coppell 3) Mesquite - Poteet 4) Forney 5) Rockwall - Heath 6) Plano 7) Highland Park 8) Mesquite - John Horn 9) Mesquite - North Mesquite 10) Midlothian 11) Mesquite 12) Wills Point 13) Irving - Nimitz 14) Terrell 15) Canton 16) Kennedale 17) Royse City 18) Commerce 19) Garland - Lakeview 20) Celina 21) Mesquite - West Mesquite 22) Crandall 23) Malakoff 24) Garland - North Garland 25) Rio Vista 26) Caddo Mills 27) Bells 28) Quinlan Ford 29) Grand Saline 30) Eustace 31) Crossroads
  14. I am not sure if two or three bands from Area C will be advancing to State this year. You will definitely see Mesquite Poteet advance. I also have a hunch that Forney will be going to state for the first time. I have been watching Forney the last few years and it's amazing how much this band has progressed in such a short time. I have also seen Poteet's show a few times this year and, as usual, they will be a force to reckoned with!
  15. Obviously what I said upset you, so I am sorry you took it personal. However, this is a forum for people to come and post their opinions and comments. Take a look around the forum, there are plenty of opinions on here and you cannot get upset over every little thing that someone says that you do not agree with. I was simply saying that I do not find the show exciting
  16. This will be interesting to see how the bands rank at this competition. I wish Duncanville had not dropped out. Coppell won this competition last year, but in my opinion....their show this year is not very exciting to watch.
  17. In past years, all bands are ranked at the end of the competition. MISD schools are ranked with all competing bands, but they are not eligible for any awards.
  18. The schedule is now posted.... 2A Pilot Point 12:00 Rio Vista 12:15 Malakoff 12:30 Queen City 12:45 3A Lovejoy 1:00 Quinlan Ford 1:15 Eustace 1:45 Commerce 2:00 Crandall 2:15 Celina 2:30 North Lamar 2:45 Wills Point 3:00 Canton 3:15 4A Royse City 3:45 West Mesquite 4:00 McKinney 4:15 Terrell 4:30 Rockwall Heath 4:45 Sherman 5:00 Highland Park 5:15 J. 19. I do not recall ever seeing a Belton show. Aren't they supposed to be pretty good? It seems like they used to be pretty competitive in 4A marching. I am surprised that Wylie, Lake Highlands and Poteet are not on there. Poteet may be attending the Frisco competition instead.
  20. There are usually 25 - 30 bands there each October.
  21. I am sure Berkner, Rowlett, Mesquite, North Mesquite and some of the McKinney schools will show up.
  22. Yes, that is true. All of the bands are given a Rating similar to UIL standards. Also, all of the bands are scored and ranked, regardless of classification. In addition, each classification has an award for best horn line, color guard, drum line and best in class. The overall contest awards go to Best Performer and best drum major. Of all the contests in DFW, I think the MMF and Plano East are my favorites. I do like how the Plano East competition brings back the Top 10 for a Finals showdown.
  23. Does anyone know a tentatvie lineup of who will be at the Mesquite Marching Festival this year? It is coming up within the next 4 weeks, but I have had no luck pulling up a schedule yet.
