2009: Bands of America Grand Nationals
CPFrntEns replied to mbui's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
We're pretty close to being a 5A UIL band, so I can basically guarantee you we'll be 3A BOA. Grand Nats is gonna be awesome next year! -

AREA D Marching Contest

Vandegrift's show is titled "Remebered" and is a tribute to the namesake of the school, Matthew Vandegrift, who was the first graduate of LISD to die in Iraq. Their show features some Aaron Copland, I believe. While they have no colorguard or battery on the field, they are doing very well. We saw them at region, and I was very impressed. I'm not suprised though, they do have Spicer... -
Pachelbel's Canon
CPFrntEns replied to JustAddWat3r's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
Yes! Awesome video. "...the second violins got lovely melodies, which should just not happen.". Hilarious! -
I know Vandegrift HS got all ones and I heard Lake Travis HS got all ones, but I don't know about any other 4A from Region 26. Kudos to Vandegrift, they were really good.

PIT. is it where the 'un-talented' kids go?
CPFrntEns replied to Malletguy22's topic in Section Heaven
I really hate to correct you, cause I really wish we did, but cp has never done a drumline show. We do standstill at dl competitions. I've seen marcus's and other drumlines shows, and they're really cool. And in regards to the op, no, pit has plenty of talented players who choose to play pit instead of trying out for battery. -
Westlake Marching Festival 2009
CPFrntEns replied to Rocktapus512's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
No, cp won prelims outright last year, but split captions with Bowie (cp got music and perc, Bowie got visual and aux). Maybe they took captions into account? -
Warhawk for the PS3 is one of the most amazing and underrated games out there. Unfortunately, it's online only and it's kinda dying out.

WC show offensive??
CPFrntEns replied to wctuba2010's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
I know this topic is a week dead, but I saw this and thought of the WC argument. Seems that someone will always be offended no matter what you do. -
Yah, I know this is three weeks old, but maybe it can be revived? http://www.mysanantonio.com/news/local_new...ds_routine.html Here's another story on this with the comments kdnblue142 was talking about. The comment in question (I'm assuming) is amc11811's comment. I agree with you, kdnblue142, that comment is so ignorant, it makes me want to hunt down that guy and force him to watch real Texas marching band, not whatever he saw. Anyway, I'm on chuchill's side here. It's art, they can do whatever they want with it. Plus, as they've said, schizophrenia refers to the mythological character Medea, not the mentally ill. But I'm just repeating what others have said. Keep it up WC. -
Jeez, that sucks. We got a few hours to walk around the convention, left about a half hour after results, and still beat the band to the football game. How far was your drive? Ours was 20-30 mins.

[Major Event] UIL State Contest
CPFrntEns replied to Xenon's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
Whoops, looks like my source was wrong about us being second smallest in finals. But man, some of those bands are really big. -
Results: (I don't have the full results, just some of it) HS Standstill: 1. Cedar Park 2. Brazoswood 3. Vista Ridge Captions: Snares- Vista Ridge Tenors- Brazoswood Basses- Cedar Park Front Ensemble- Cedar Park Cymbals- Cedar Park And I'm pretty sure Colleyville won HS marching with Marcus 2nd, and Colleyville got all captions but cymbals which went to Lewisville. Also, UNT won college marching and the highest overall score trophy (can't remember the name).l

[Major Event] UIL State Contest
CPFrntEns replied to Xenon's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
Facinating little fun fact here: Did you know that Cedar Park, with it's 237 members, was the second smallest band at State Finals? I think we're pretty big for a high school marching band, and yet 80% of the bands were bigger than us. Huh. Big schools, I guess. Don't know who was the biggest, all I know is we were the second smallest. -

You guys were awesome! i think the entire stadium was singing under their breath to "Bohemian Rhapsody." And the indoor drumline was incredible! I agree with whoever said, "Any chance the don't win PASIC?" By the way, did the UIL head judge get pissed at you guys for going over your alloted time? That's what some of our band parents were saying. -
Uhh... no we didn't. Front Ensemble and Battery tore at the tempo change in the Opener, and we were off until the brass takes back the melody from the clarinets (m. 67). Apparently it wasn't very noticable from the audience, however. Does anyone have the full recap score sheet? Like the one that was in the Arlington Forum?

[Major Event] UIL State Contest
CPFrntEns replied to Xenon's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
I really want to see these other bands. I hope the videos go on youtube soon. CP only saw Richland (the tarp was so cool!) and Westlake, and I thought both were very good. I've heard Coppell was great (nice job on the bronze medal) and I really want to see Bell's show and Duncanville's show. There were a ton of great bands at this competition. Come to think of it, that's probably why the judges had a hard time agreeing. By the way, the wait for the prelims results was hilarious. The wave ... the chants (started by CP!) ... Hey Baby ... only band nerds would come up with this stuff. -
Same here. We all used to use Stevens, but we got a new perc director and he had the vibes switch to burton. We hated it until we learned it and got used to it and realized it's actually not that bad and, in some ways, burton is better. I still prefer Stevens, however. So, I would have to say Stevens is more commonly used.

Look at all the inconsistencies! There's many, but these are the ones that stick out: Bell: 3 2 10 5 1 Coppell: 2 8 6 3 4 Bowie: 6 3 8 1 8 Duncanville: 4 10 1 6 6 Just goes to show how subjective marching band is. Congratulations to all the bands, especially Marcus. -
Umm... the txband.com score section for this competition is wrong. This is what's up there: 1 94.55 - L.D. Bell HS 2 93.35 - Marcus HS 3 90.1 - Cedar Park HS 4 88.8 - James Bowie (Austin) HS 5 86.75 - Winston Churchill HS 6 87.8 - Stephen F. Austin HS 7 86.75 - Berkner HS 8 84.55 - Hebron HS 9 84.4 - Keller HS 10 84.3 - Friendswood HS 11 83.55 - Westlake HS 12 82.9 - Leander HS 13 82.85 - Haltom HS 14 82.4 - Ronald Reagan HS That doesn't even make sense logically (look at Churchill/SFA). The correct results for the top 5 are: LD Bell: 94.55 Marcus: 93.35 CP: 91.45 Bowie: 90.1 Churchill: 88.8 After that it's right. EDIT: Sorry for the random formatting problem.
