Area D Marching Contest

Star of Indiana's Medea is CRAZY fast! Our director let us listen to a recording of it, and I've seen the youtube video. It's epic. -
McCoy for the Heisman!! Yep, I'm a longhorn fan too, and sorry musicaidnow, but your raiders are gonna lose their perfect record this saturday...

The Metronome...
CPFrntEns replied to borchnork's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
CP did that I think two times last year. I'm in front ensemble, so I can get away with looking at the clock occasionally, and boy it's nerve racking when you look up and know you have about 30 secs. left of your show and 28 secs. is shown on the clock. I know we did it at UIL region, and I think Westlake was the other one. I saw a huge sigh of relief from our director after we finished the UIL one. As for metronomes, I think they should not be used in a performance ever EXCEPT at the very beginning of the show for the drum major to get his/her first tempo. A performance is a performance, no matter who you're performing for. A metronome is a huge distraction and takes away from the show. -
What shows have you seen?
CPFrntEns replied to longhornsax's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
The band that did the Airport show (not Gtown, I think it was Akins) was really cool. The voiceovers were very neat. Normally I don't like that kinda stuff but I think they did it very well. I really liked the beginning with everyone running around pointing, cool effect. -
Just realized there's already a thread on this, so this one is pretty unecessary. A moderator could delete/integrate it with the other one called "How's you line doing?"

I really hope we get to see more bands play. I want to see Churchill's version of Medea. -
I have no problem with your right of free speech I was just pointing out how you misinterpreted his words. Maybe "twist his words" was the wrong phrase. I guess we can just agree to disagree on our opinion of our show. Let's just drop this whole thing and return to talking about the festival. What was your favorite show there?

Round rock I thought was pretty good at Westlake. And I'm not gonna lie we have an awesome Drumline this year. Drum caption at Westlake by 8 pts! Other than that I haven't seen many... I wish I could have seen the Houston regional

Ack!! I was going to try to make a prediction of who will move on to State, but it's just too hard! So many bubble bands... plus I've barely seen any shows. -
That's basically it. The show's called On Edge, so its edgy, loud, agressive music (with good sound quality). Thus, since brass does this best, the show is mostly brass dominated. EDIT: Dang, you beat me to it TRUMPet Let's get off this subject though. If there's any people from bands that performed late in prelims, was your band affected by the sun? I'm in Pit, so I wouldn't know, but apparently our wind players were very bothered by the sun. We performed at 5:00 so the sun was fairly low on the horizen shining right into our eyes.

Sorry if my comment came out wrong. I wasn't trying to bash him for voicing an opinion, I just thought he was overstating it a little bit. I totally respect his and anyone else's opinion. By the way do you remember any specific moments where we had tempo issues? Because I thought we were pretty consistent (but I haven't seen the video yet). Also: oh, dynasty=travis=cp drum major 06=creator of txbands! Now it all makes sense...

Standing still for half the show? You gotta be kidding me. Flying around the field at 180 (192 at the end) is definately not standing still. And when we play loud, we don't blast. We play with a good sound, really really loud. Also, when we stop marching, it makes sense to stop based on what we're playing. Like someone said earlier, please keep the negativity down. On a side note, no one has posted this yet: Class 5A Prelims Results Captions: Percussion: Cedar Park Auxillary: Bowie Marching: Bowie Music: Cedar Park 3rd: Akins (I think?) 2nd: Bowie 1st: Cedar Park

All bands have trouble occasionally. But has anything really bad happened this year to you? As for CP, we had one bad injury. At BOA Arlington, a cymbal player fell and sprained her ankle during our second drumbreak... then proceded to march the entire rest of the show, about 6 1/2 minutes. She had to be carried off the field after we finished, she was in so much pain. I believe she is out for the season.

PIT. is it where the 'un-talented' kids go?
CPFrntEns replied to Malletguy22's topic in Section Heaven
Absolutely not. Our Front Ensemble is very good, and I hate when people have that stereotype of "Oh, you're in Pit, so you're not as good as the battery." I also hate the assumption that the drumline consists of just the battery, not the front ensemble. The drumline consists of all percussion members, including the front ensemble. That's why we're on the drumline shirt, go to drumline contests, etc. (I'm looking at you MaverickBand15! ). Just kidding, I know you're a pit member, but it does bug me. Some bands do put the "un-talented" kids there (you know, that 2A band that just doesn't care and sticks an alternate trombone player on marimba) and I think this is where the stereotype comes from. Being in Pit definately does not mean you're "un-talented". On a side note... Best Front Ensemble '06 and '07 at Belton Drumline contest! (and it would've been '08 but they canceled it ) -

Agreed. Also, does anyone know where I could find a video of SCV '98? I think that's what our opener is based on. If I'm right, then I've heard that show was pretty good as well. (**looks at the last few posts** Dang that's a lot of CP members)

I am soooo excited for this saturday. It's a chance for redemption from our horrible finals performance last year (anyone from CP you know what I mean). Bowie should be some tough competition, not to mention all the other very talented bands. Oh, and rpd: it's because one of our band directors mentioned it briefly and people were told that BOA Arlington results were here. Not to mention the site was created by CP kids...I think...someone verify that.
