  1. Things that Rock: Band parents who cheer on their band for a full two minutes before their preliminary performance at the Area B Marching Competition! I <3 MBHS band parents!
  2. GREAT job to all of the bands who competed in the Area B Marching Competition! We (McKinney Boyd) played our HEARTS AND SOULS out yesterday during our preliminary performance! I was disheartened and had to hold back tears last night when I heard that we were ranked eleventh and only a single point away from finals, yet, I and the rest of the band have absolutely no regrets as to what we put out on the field yesterday at 11:45 a.m.! Yes, we still have failed to advance to Area Finals in our 5A career, yet, it's hard to forget that only a short two years ago, we were ranked 17th out of 25 bands at Area. The McKinney Boyd band has made great strides as not only an organization, but as a family! :') Yesterday may have been my last chance for the 5A State Marching Competition, but many wonderful memories were created in the process! I know this can be said for many bands as well! Congratulations are in order for Marcus, L.D. Bell, Haltom, and Hebron in their advancement to the 5A State Marching Band Competition as well as alternates Mansfield and Plano East. From what I have heard, Plano East had to perform the remaining two or so minutes of their show in a torrential downpour, AND, despite everything, performed beautifully! Kudos to you all for such ambiance in a difficult and unforeseen situation! I wish the best of luck to all bands who will compete in the Alamodome in a few weeks! Finally, to all bands who came out to Carrollton, Texas and dealt with the rain, the tornado warnings and the awful, blaring sirens, and the lightning (in short, HORRID conditions) to compete for a chance to advance past Area B, give yourselves a pat on the back! We all have earned it!
  3. Oh, and Marcus did not attend the 2009 Plano East Marching Invitational. The last time they attended was 2008.
  4. I can already tell that it is going to be a close competition! I am so excited for this Saturday!!
  5. Dripping Springs- 1st Friendswood- 2nd Poteet- 3rd Congrats to all of the bands who made it to the 4a State Marching Competition!!
  6. Congratulations to all of the bands who competed at DMI this year!! Watching Marcus' show from an audience perspective was amazing! Beautiful drill, music, and a great use of props!! I especially want to congratulate the William B. Travis High School Band! Being a part of a young band program myself (the McKinney Boyd Band program is in its 4th year of exsistence), it was nice to see such a young band perform at such a high caliber! I absolutely LOVED the soloist! Great show and I wish the William B. Travis the best of luck in their future endeavors. In addition, I could not help but notice the Plano East Marching Band! WOW. Very impressive! Despite having not made the finals last Saturday, attending the 2009 Duncanville Invitational was quite the experience! Cannot wait for 5a State next year Again, I wish to congratulate ALL of the bands who competed at DMI! Great job and looking forward to next year!!
  7. I hope you are not referring to our (the McKinney Boyd Band) Grand Champion title as "strange." We may have earned 6th place in finals last year, but we also greatly improved through hours of practice and building on the tradition of past graduated band members over the course of several months. We worked very hard to put on a great show for competition. Not to mention we played our hearts out during finals!!! Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed Poteet's show and thought it was absolutely brilliant (especially the woodwind features) and the shows of the other bands that were present at the invitational. P.S.- Congrats to all of the bands that performed in the Plano East Marching Invitational! Just another way to show off one's hard work and capabilities! Congratulations especially for the McKinney High School Royal Pride Band on their 8th place finish and whose show was simply spectacular!!
  8. What band are you from? Just wondering... lol
  9. I'm really sorry.... remember, you are talking to a freshman, yet a smart one at best!!
  10. Hey, I'm sorry... I have never heard of Frisco Wakeland {well, maybe I'm still not high school marching band savvy yet=) } When was ur high school established... r u in 4A just out of curiousity? Thanks for replying... I'm still letting the no more marching competitions bit of this year sink in...
  11. I TRULY Meant every word!! I can see you are from the Hebron Band I totally loved your show "Watched!" It was different from anything I have ever seen... you will STUN the judges at State competition! 12. Hi, first off, I want to congratulate the bands that advanced to the State Marching competition. LD Bell, Marcus, Hebron, Haltom, and Richland, they all put out spectacular shows duing the finals this Saturday and they without a doubt deserved their ranks and a trip to the Alamodome. I am a proud member of the McKinney Boyd High School Marching Band (a freshman). We were VERY disappointed about Saturday's competition, for we didn't even advance to finals..., yet we knew that we made our best attempt in prelims and put forth great effort and better yet, had fun performing . We (as a high school and a band) had our first year in 5A and proved to be somewhat better than expected. I try to remember that this is only our 3rd year in exsistence and that we only further improve in time, yet our disappointment is and never will be far from our minds. However, on Saturday, I got over my "I hate the world" attitude to watch some of the most impressive bands in the state of Texas! LD Bell's show "The Quest" was simply amazing and left me in awe. Marcus also had a great show with the themes of different Greek Gods and Goddesses. I hope for anyone who happened to watch our 9:45 prelims performance did not just think of us as an average band, for there were many hours and sleepless mornings that we were dedicated to our show. I will again express my greatest congratulations to all of the bands that made it to State, the finals, the bands that did not make it to finals, and the alternates through their hard work and dedication.
