So.......Americas did the honorable thing.
The question is not whether or not it happened. We have a contest official that observed....so the question then becomes did they violate the intent of the rule. Simply ask the director in question. Was he/she operating the board or fixing the problem for the rest of the performance. Coppell is respected so we have to trust that they would do the honorable thing. They as educators know the message they will send to their students, community and the music community across the state. If they say they didn't violate the intent of the rule then we have to trust their integrity. If they say "let the UIL figure it out" as one poster suggests....well maybe that answers the question.
In a post on Txblive about the New Braunfels band's performance (Area D I think) in the pre-lims a comment was made that the gain was too high on the board which created an issue that was irritating enough it warranted a comment. So....would this be a problem that a director could have stepped in and run the board? Would it have made a difference in placement? The only reason I say this is to show there is no easy answer to this. Maybe make the rule so that only a student can touch the board after the performance starts.
The facts are the judges voted Coppell to advance to the state competition. Their onfield performace speaks for itself and their student musicians performed at a very high level. Isn't that what this competition is supposed to be about. They will represent Area C well.
