  1. Reading this thread 13 years later and I had forgot about it. Dear god 💀
  2. GN weekend Indy.pdfAll in good fun, but I thought this was good
  3. I meant no disrespect to any of the bands I mentioned. I'm just using examples of bands that have achieved levels of success that they have not in the past. I remember Hebron and they were always a band to reckon with for a BOA or UIL finals spot. I'm just wondering if they will continue to perform at the level so that they are not just expected to make finals, but be in the medal hunt. Same goes for CTJ. I'm really impressed since their school was only established in 2008 that they have become one of the top bands in the state in so little time. I'm just interested in the factors that get a band from one level of achievement to a higher one, such as consistently medaling or making finals. To avoid being a "hit-or-miss" band.
  4. We all know the powerhouses (Marcus, Bell, Bowie, Reagan, Coppell, Duncanville, to name a few). More bands have found recent success (Hebron getting the silver medal, Johnson making finals), but can they sustain it? What factors are necessary to create a program that is a perennial powerhouse that not only can be expected to make State, but come close to, if not make finals consistently?
  5. 1-2 toss up between Coppell and Dripping Springs?
  6. It's always interesting to see those who succeed in both UIL and BOA, like LD Bell and Marcus. They are able to find the balance between execution and creativity.
  7. eh, just watch it on watch espn on the iPhone between bands! that's what I'll do.
  8. AHHHH I'm so glad they made the UT- Tx Tech game at 11am so I can go to San Antonio and watch finals! (Assuming Coppell makes finals of course). Just had to share that with everybody lol
  9. I found Coppell's 2011 show! It's pretty awesome and it's UIL so they're cool with people recording the performances.
  10. Ok I'm especially looking for the Coppell video for this year. I'm an alumnus and won't be able to go to any of the games or contests this year. Please help if possible!
  11. Dang I don't think it's right for companies to copyright videos of bands, when it's the kids doing all of the work. how is a band kid supposed to show his grandparents his show if his parents don't have a videocamera?
  12. Does anyone actually have a video for the show this year??
  13. If anyone has links to show videos for 2011, please post them here! Especially if anyone has vids from: Coppell, Duncanville, LD Bell, Bowie, and Marcus.
  14. UT Longhorn band 2011-2012: Our traditional shows: Script Texas and Wall-to-Wall Band Non traditional shows: Jazz Show (with Caravan, Moondance, and April in Paris) Beatles Show (with All You Need is Love, Help!, Gotta Get You Into My Life, She Loves You, I Wanna Hold Your Hand, and Hey Jude) Karaoke Show (with Friends in Low Places, Sweet Home Alabama, and Carry on My Wayward Son) Queen Show (with Bicycle Race & Bohemian Rhapsody)
  15. GE would just have to weigh more heavily...maybe combine it with marching score for an over all visual score? Of course, this would have to be in a good few years where a majority of bands operated like that.
  16. Marching band is always evolving. Before we had straight military marches and straight lines. Then we got curved lines and played almost exclusively to the press box side. We also now have sound boards, and most notably, props on the field. Props started with a few well funded bands, and now hundreds of bands use props. This year, Marcus experimented with lights on uniforms and on colorguard equipment. What do you think will be the next innovation in marching band? Videos? Utilizing stadium lights/videoboards? Of course, it will start with high up, well funded and successful bands like Marcus or Avon first, but then it will start to trickle into common usage, just like props did.
  17. Yeah and it's interesting that every school that has won a 5A championship have all won it at least twice (with the exception of Laredo Nixon, the first UIL champion in 83)
  18. So have you seen any schools that have had fun/interesting shows now that contest season is over? For example, in recent years Coppell has had interesting shows such as this one, which highlights aspects of opposing schools and their mascots.
  19. didn't they have white hats and big tall fluffy white plumes? Why did they have the skinny black ones that Cedar Park and Coppell use??
  20. Not to mention the rain kind of screwed everything up in Dallas/Ft Worth that day. The same thing happened in area B where Hebron beat LD Bell in area.
  21. What do you mean by this? Wasn't 2000 Bell's first state championship?
  22. Man, Marcus and LD Bell own the Alamodome! Think about it- those two schools have won every BOA Super Regional or State competition there since 2006! (06-BOA: Bell, UIL: Marcus; 07-BOA: Marcus; 08-BOA: Bell, UIL: Marcus; 09-BOA: Bell; 10- BOA & UIL: Marcus)
  23. Is the student price for prelims or finals or both or just any one session? and do they mean high school students or do they include college students?
  24. aaaaand for my 100th post, I will once again say go Coppell! Win state '10!
  25. Good luck to Coppell on tuesday!
