boo for that game i just remembered at my school we always talked about rushing the field if we won state. It never happened, but it just got me thinking- has that ever happened for a band who won state? and if it did, did the band ever get punished or reprimanded for it?

Why weren't there predictions open for this contest?

Think of it like college football rankings. You really have to have a name for yourself if you wanna be high up in the preseason rankings. Nobody expected Michigan State to be in the top 5 last week because they had never been that high up before. And, as much as it pains me to say it, look at UT. They were in the top 5 in the preseason rankings but now they are unranked and at 4-4. Preseason or pre-contest rankings don't aways predict how things will shape out.

Well alot of it has to do with how bands have fared in the past. Round Rock hasn't been to state in at least the last 2 5A competitions so alot of people won't put in a newcoming band in their predictions. Also, you have to consider the added competition from other areas, especially from the Dallas/Ft Worth area. It's nothing against Round Rock or their show . It's just how people predict their finals.

Yeah a clean easier drill will almost always be prized more by the judges then a harder dirtier drill

I have a friend from the marcus band that graduated last year and she told me that they just stay in San Antonio from BOA until State and come home tuesday night

Yeah that's why Cedar Park got 2nd at BOA Houston plus the Music caption and Vandegrift got 3rd...

Yeah Dripping Springs is still great but Cedar Park is coming off of a long series of 5A state contests where the competition is overall tougher. Not to mention their consistent BOA regional & super-regional finalist finishes.

Cedar Park. Since they're back in 4A, this band is absolutely on the rise again. This is going to be State 4A in 2011: Cedar Park is Anakin.

Yeah well think about it- if you were told at the last minute that this was your only shot to get into state, you'd be nervous and not do as well because of nerves.

I dunno. Personally, I think it adds to the tension and suspense when bands are eliminated as they go down from last to first. That way, the real climax is when 2nd is announced and everybody already knows who first is. I like how they do that in BOA and DCI and how they used to do it in UIL state.

Why don't they announce all of the top ten results? I hate how they only give the top 3 bands.

I agree 100% on this. I love the originality of it all, especially since the Planets has been done so many times. The upbeat Jupiter part of the flutes was great, and the dna strands and also the closer. I really liked the closer because of how the melodic section of jupiter was sped up and transitioned into mars to hype up the last section, and of course when we shrank the square down and played the duuh-duuh-duh-duh-duh! for the climax. Unfortunately, I wish there was a better video of it on youtube because the only version of it is a recording of the recording, so the pit sounds all ringy and clangy and the sound quality of the video isn't that great.

I was always wondering this- like how much does a drill writer get paid by one band in one year to write their entire drill and the same for the guy who arranges the music? Anybody have an idea?
