2009 BOA Regional Schedule
bandbot4.0 replied to Danpod's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
How can there be a rivalry between 2 programs when 1 is not even in the same league as the other? North Shore may be up and coming, but they still have a long way to go. -
Capital Regiment has a few more weapon line spots available. For more information, contact Stephen Howard, Color Guard Caption Head, at stephenhoward@capitalregiment.org, or by calling 804-357-2630.

You can order them from RBC. You don't have to wait for your director to do that for you. -

USSBA Fall Texas Schedule
bandbot4.0 replied to mbui's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
My main concern with USSBA adjudication is their concept of "floating criteria." This means that the criteria for each box changes from week to week. So a mediocre group could score a 65.0 in Week 1, do absolutely nothing to improve their program, and come out again in Week 6 and score an 80.0. (Just an example, not real data.) Secondly, weekly e-mails from the administration "coach" the adjudicators, somewhat predetermining the numbers. Lastly, the adjudicators involved with USSBA do not go through any real formal training. There is an online "training" seminar that all judges are "required" to participate in, however this seems to have been "overlooked" for some. As a result, USSBA offers very inconsistent judging within the same caption. The same could be said for other circuits. I do believe, however, that it is not nearly to the extent that plagues USSBA. I apologize in advance if some of this seems inaccurate. My references might be outdated, as it has been a while since I have been involved. Anyone else have similar experiences? -

Well said. I doubt that USSBA's popularity in Texas will grow anytime soon for that sole reason. USSBA's adjudication philosophy simply does not fit the Texas model. -

James Bowie HS (Austin, TX) will also be attending GNats this year. (They are not up on the list yet, for some reason.) -
2008 BOA GN Finals!
bandbot4.0 replied to Xenon's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
Why are we questioning the music caption when clearly Ben Davis and Lafayette had no business whatsoever even being in finals? They picked the right year to come, I guess. Dobyns-Bennett and Lake Central would have been better picks, in my opinion. Both played well, march ok, not great, but certainly better than the alternatives. Carmel played well....L.D. Bell didn't have a good run. That's all there is to that. Remember that BOA wants people to be clean and sound good...so saying their book is easy is a moot point. Overall, having the opportunity to watch the top 7 was very moving. They all had great programs. No one really pushing the envelope this year, but some very creative ideas! -

I'm a little interested to know why everyone here thinks it's OK to "represent" their school on these forums. Did your Director give you the Press Pass? If I were you, I wouldn't begin *any* post with "We the ______ band family" or "I am a member/parent from ______ band" I know if I caught my kids doing that, they'd get an ear-full...especially if it were all so negative, like most of you are doing. I also think it's hysterical that high school students give so much criticism of other groups. If you know so much, why don't you have your own band yet? ;-) -
Area D Marching Contest

Thanks for the info. Agreed about McNeil and Westwood. This area will be interesting to watch! That being said, I wish more people were hyped about watching CP, Churchill and Bowie duke it out!! -

I'm seriously confused as to why people think Vista Ridge will be anywhere near the top half. Anyone want to justify that?
