From the BOA Forums I am not affiliated with the Bowie Band but they have been one of my favorite and most anticipated bands every year since 2003. Bruce led Bowie to 4 5a State Marching Band Finals and 2 Grand National Finals in the last 7 years. Bowie has been one of the best bands in the state and nation since he has took over and he will be missed by many. Prayers go out to the entire Bowie Band Family.

What music is Marcus using in this years show? -
Does anyone know the music used in Berkner's 2008 show Suite: Dream, besides Calfornia Dreamin' and the Bartok? I am really wanting to know the music they used in the water section.

Bell's New Touch for Finals
Amusicman posted a topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!! is all I can say after seeing bells show in finals. The ending that they did in SA was changed to where a huge white tarp was pulled out and filled the entire field. at the center of the tarp a colorguard member emerged completly in white and the other colorguard members were seen sticking out from beneath the tarp. AWSOME job Bell and I beleive you may have just one your first Eagle!!!!!!!!! -
I am wondering who arranged the music and wrote the drill for Marcus's show this year and last year

Last season someone was able to make recordings from the online streaming video of The SA super regional and post them on this site like the week after the regional. I was wondering if anyone was going to do that this year because I am about to go insane waiting for recordings from this years super regional!

2006 Texas Honor Band (State!!)
Amusicman replied to Xenon's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
Wow, first of all congratulations to Langham Creek for their 2nd Honor Band Championship! Second of all I was kind of suprised at first to see it, but a second huge congratulations to the Plano East band who is finally recieving some much do credit, by not only makeing the finals for the first time ( I think) but by coming in second in the state! Great job to everyone who made it to the state level, that in itself is a huge accomplishment. -
Texas Bands
Amusicman replied to Band Of Champions's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
Well first of all I must say to your response Reagan that I think this year they were the complete deal. They have always had an edge in their General Effect and Visual programs, but man all you have to do is hear the mp3 of their music performance this year to know that they were in a league of their own. Their music this year, IMHO, blew nearly else away. Now I know it is really to early to be predicting for the state marching contest but I think the finals this year is pretty much already set up. I thnk these will be for sure the finalists - L.D. Bell Duncanville Haltom Marcus Richland Langham Creek Cedar Park Bowie Reagan Churchill Bubble Bands - Coppell Brazoswood If any other band were to make finals in 06 it would really suprise me. -

Eric Whitacre
Amusicman replied to christus_spohn's topic in Drill Writers, Arrangers, and Composers Corner
First of all I like some of Whitacre's works so I don't want anyone to just think I am bashing him. In order to be included in the list of the greatest composers of all time you must not only write good melodies, which is pretty much what most of Whitacre's works consist of, but you must also leave a impact on the musical community that everyone that lives after you must deal with. Be it your musical language, forms, harmony, new types of melody, new sounds or what not. In my opinion there have only been 10 of these composers so far, and there is only one living composer, that most music scholars agree on, that will probably, in time, be added to this list. The 10 Greats - J.S. Bach Joseph Haydn Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Ludwig van Beethoven Richard Wagner Gustav Mahler Claude Debussy Jean Sibelius Igor Stravinsky Anton von Webern Now while you might not like the style of these composers, the fact must be coincided, that nearly every other composer, even the few others who have had some innovations in their music, have written their works in the shadows and styles of these great innovators. The only composer of today that I think even has the chance to stand with these greats is John Adams. Adams has taken the music of the post serialists, the minimalists, i.e. Reich, Reily, Glass and Nono, and took it to a supreme form that can be considered the greatest musical masterpieces of the last few years of the 20th century, and the first few years of the 21st. Adams has continued to top himself and bypass his level of perfection in his work with each succeding piece. To top off his impressive list of works that include Harmonium, Grand Pianola Music, Harmonielehre, Nixon in China, The Death of Klinghoffer, the Chamber Symphony, the Violin Concerto and On the Transmigration of Souls, Adams has written 3 great masterpieces in the last 10 years, that can be included with the greatest masterpieces of all time.
