  1. What did you have in mind?
  2. I must admit, thats a very slick and cool new directory. The peel is most enticing.
  3. No one wins without medaling first, historically. Source: http://www.drumcorpsplanet.com/forums/inde...=107285&hl=
  4. Are you using a lime-based cement for your plaster? I mean, to protect against rain damage. Examples? Maybe he means people usually are bit nicer/respectful to those who have done something they aspire to do?
  5. ...classy
  6. Yeah, but Vanguard doing Ballet for Martha and Holy Name doing Bernstein is sort of swinging the pendulum back towards more traditional shows (or so I hope) which I'm DEFINITELY in favor of. So yeah, they could throw some new music out there, but I'll take this where I can get it.
  7. Exactly! And that's fine by me.
  8. Another point to be raised: Just because woodwinds MIGHT be able to do DCI one day doesn't mean that any particular corps would march any. Not every corps is opting to use electric keyboards despite their legalization, so maybe some corps would opt not to march woodwinds, either. I suppose I can take some comfort in that thought.
  9. Do you mean act ignorant towards woodwinds in the sense that they don't feel they belong in DCI? I agree, start up a pro marching band thing, not because people are so 'ignorant' but to appease both sides.
  10. Fair enough. ...doodiehead.
  11. The same could be said for stance that DCI needs to yield to your demand instead of a new, similar organization being started.
  12. Retarded might not be the word I use, but I do think DCI is a group that doesn't need woodwinds.
  13. I'd have to disagree with that because every argument I made had some sort of justification to back it up. Whenever you couldn't argue a point back, you either turned it into a joke or ignored it.
  14. Ding ding ding!
  15. You can't say that with any degree of certainty. And you certainly can't tell me that when you tell me and other people that we can't know what the BoD, corps directors, or judges are thinking of doing for sure. What I see up there is an excuse to try and reject all good points made against your case.
  16. Not me. I'll let him respond to that. In the Bluecoats, generally. Speaking from experience, this summer was a lot wetter than the summer of 2007, but we still marched. It becomes especially important if you're behind or relearning drill/changing a part of your show. So yes, we marched in a good deal of rain this summer, or at least a lot more than we did my rookie year. Why does there need to be a transition? If there was a new group that performed at just as high a level and had woodwinds, what's the difference? Is it the fact that you want to say you marched in DCI or that you want to perform in a highly trained and skilled performing unit?
  17. How about during rehearsal? Which is much more likely as we rehearse a lot more than we perform. Like I replied to him, maybe it would be financially viable if whatever they're paying right now ends up being proportionally the same. Names CAN be changed. But I hope they wouldn't alter the entire activity and change it's name. It seems like if they're going to do something that dramatic, just create a new unit entirely. You're right. They're three-valve brass, which aren't technically bugles. However, they do bear more resemblance to a bugle than any woodwind instrument does.
  18. Will it equate? Enough to keep the big corps at least paying the same ratio they are with the current membership limit?
  19. I'm gonna have to agree with this, but conditionally. If we're assuming that they raise the corps membership if they add woodwinds (which they would have to in order to get any sort of comparable volume) then yes, they'd have to higher more staff. More staff = more money spent. Plus, where would you put all the extra instruments? Buy another equipment trailer? Rent a little U-Haul for the summer? That's more money, too.
  20. Ok. Did I say never? I believe I said maybe. Where did I ever imply that woodwind players have been only playing their instruments for a single day? If you want to try and exaggerate things to try and illustrate a point, you're missing the issue I'm bringing up in the first place. I could care less about your spring, I'm talking about all that crap about pads and whatnot. Maybe a little drizzle won't bother you, but turn up the water and I'm sure it'll hurt your horn a lot more than it hurts mine. A little rain never hurt a brass horn. We shower with our horns, for crying out loud. And to the person who brought up the pit thing, I can think of times during spring training when they had to whip out the big tarps to protect their stuff. So no, they're not impervious to rain damage, either. If you want to create a circuit of your own for marching bands (like listed above), be my guest.
  21. Ok, so let's say we're not 100% sure. If in the future the rule does pass, what if it passes so late that you would have already aged out? That would be too late, and no amount of stubbornness would turn back the clock on you. With the kind of rule proposals being thrown out there, perhaps the theories are true. Mic'ing the pit led to electronic instruments which could lead to woodwinds. Maybe. Or maybe the corps directors who vote on rule proposals are smart enough to not take it there. A rule proposal that would give each marcher another year to march didn't even make it to the second round of voting. We can march in the rain, and we do. Do it with a woodwind. And maybe brass is 'delicate' but I swear it can probably take more abuse than a woodwind can. Less keys, no padding to clean, the list goes on.
  22. Oh yeah, per the usual, I'm going to the Bluecoats.
  23. Find me a melody in that show.
