Politics in Band

Audience response affecting GE, perhaps? But on that note, don't we already have it? -
Favorite Show this season

No, we're Connally HS from the Pflugerville ISD. Sorry to disappoint. And we just had UIL Marching yesterday (1st division), so our next competition will be Grand Nationals. -
Favorite Show this season

Thanks. It's called Ourspace.com: A Symphonic Blog. The bass trombone is John Welch. The tuba is myself. -
Oh, you know. Send a few obsessive, dedicated leaders out armed with black spray paint to spray over all the dots. The chalk totally washes away in the rain, but this new 4-step spacing in one color and 2-step spacing in another color has totally done away with the need for either. It's all in the head, now.

Is it smart to...

Well, we did it at Westlake, but it's an option. We had to because if we didn't, our students taking the SAT wouldn't be back and we'd have to march holes. We're not trying to cheat or anything, it just worked out better for our band at this competition. -
I think Danpod put it best (I spoke with him after BOA Arlington when we didn't make finals), and he said, "Right now the judges have to go off what they see. That can't look at a show and say 'Oh, that'll be good.' It's not being judged off of potential." And yes, I agree BOA needs GE (I mean, c'mon), but you can achieve GE without using props all over the field, electronics up the butt, rappers, pyrotechnics, wizards, magic, or any of the like. It's all about your show design.

Right you are. But think of it, you wouldn't need to narrow it to 4. If each movement had a theme, you could totally have more than one excerpt in each movement, as long as it was tastefully done and not choppy. -

Honestly, I'm not sure. If I was a director (which I intend to be), I'd ask myself, "Are we ready to compete amongst 5A bands?" If you go just to try and make a statement and then get creamed, your statement is that you're just trying to look big by competing with the big. -

Advent Children or just FFVII in general? -
Ah, well, the dialogue isn't supposed to be in tempo with the music. It's just supposed to kinda... be, I suppose.

I suppose I'm a little confused, so could someone define what they mean by "funny" por favor? For anyone else confused/curious about our show, here's the lowdown: Movement 1: New Born by Muse Movement 2: Dance Suite by B

My band attended the Westlake Marching Festival yesterday and while we were being announced to compete in Finals, a band decided to laugh at our show theme. Then, when our solo rifle dropped at the end of the third movement, they laughed again. I'm wondering what rules are like in different programs so I can get an idea of this happening again or not. Thanks.

Wonderful review. You really know marching bands well.

BOA Arlington
HashBrownJM replied to Devon's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
Lookin' forward to it. -
Ya know, it makes me sad to say, but I've never met any TxB people before. I think I started AIM contact with Travis when the site first was getting off the ground-ish, but I've never met him, Alex, Dan, or anyone. My band will definitely be at BOA Arlington (hoping to make Finals), so I wouldn't mind the chance to see/meet some of my fellow moderators/posters.
