Videos from this year
n3rdu5 replied to Mculbert07's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
Ahhhhhh, I agree! From the little flute solo before it, to the singing, to the big hit, and the little snippet of Hide and Seek afterwards....it all gives me chills, haha. I love that. -

2006 UIL State Prelims SCHEDULE
n3rdu5 replied to jr520c's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
I caaan't wait for this!! I'm hoping that with our early time, we'll able to watch LOTS of bands. Eeeeee. -
hahha, I'm guessing you are talking about us! yeah we have a clarinet solo that builds up into a huge jam section with the whole band, and ends with a high note held by the clarinet as the band runs wild and then a big note at the end. haha. I love that.

Thanks a lot! I think that is a reason why I really like our show so much this year, because we've mostly concentrated on our music. I love our music this year, because all our pieces are so different from each other but they still have a connection, you know? Out of all of them though, I love jam section the best, haha. Not that I'm knocking down any bands that do use props and such - because I love the Woodlands' show, and Klein really impressed me (re: they were the flower band). [i didn't get to see Pearland, unfortunately. ] I just really like the direction our directors took this year.

hahaha, this is so exciting. I can't wait!

Best Bands in state
n3rdu5 replied to LchsMallet1990@hotmail.com's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
Guess we won't know til November 7th. -
Aw, I wish we were going to BOA this year. Just because it would make my marching band soul happy to do lots of performances in a few short days, heehee [for doing BOA & State]. I was planning on going down to go watch, but I have SATs this Saturday and so I dunno if it would work out in time. Sigh. But I wish all the bands going good luck!

Don't they switch judges from prelims to finals? I believe that's what I heard today. Or am I being crazy? 'cause if they do, then of course that could be a big factor...hm. Interesting results indeed, though.

Marching Basoon
n3rdu5 replied to the_DRUM_MAJOR's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
Wow, I've never heard of that before. I always thought oboes and bassoons were no-no's because of the dangerous reed problem? Hrrm. -
I'm guessing they went in order from 1st to 5th, which is kinda odd, but it seems that way. Unless it was random order and they just happened to say Spring first. *shrug*
-
Correct, Westfield doesn't do UIL. I thought they were too but I guess not. But Spring does! heehee.
-
WOOOOOOO!! As many have said, yes indeed Spring took 1st in both Prelims and Finals! Man. I've never been so excited in my life! DRUM MAJOR, I would love you dearly if you uploaded our show!! :-D

The Woodlands LSP video
n3rdu5 replied to manuel_pablo's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
Ahhhh. I LOVE IT. My favorite part is the rendition of the "Mmmm what you say" part, where everyone is kinda dancing and on the floor, kicking up their legs, and all that. Goodness. I love this show. Really though. I can't WAIT to see it live. -
I couldn't have put it better myself!

Who sings at the beginning, does anyone know? [and thank you SO MUCH for this!! ] -
Yes, yes. The LSP thing is OOOVEEEER. Please, no one needs to bring that up again. It's been discussed, things have been said, apologies have been said, okay. No more! I agree with Tnilli's comments. The four I'm shooting for are Spring, CP, TWHS, and Brazos....but I cannot think of a 5th. I wanna say Pearland but I haven't seen their show this year yet. and bahah, ikilledabird, you took the words out of my mouth.

Where?! Wheeeree?! haha. -
Rawrr, who are you?
-
I've always split it like....BOA = more GE/visual/etc, while UIL = more playing/marching/etc. something like that, haha.
-
This area is gonna be CRAAAAAAAZY. I agree, the 5 advancing bands is going to be a toss up. kinda hard to predict! I can't wait. and also yes, Westfield isn't doing UIL this year. not sure why. anyone know?

What do your double reeds do?
n3rdu5 replied to Nancy08's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
Most of ours go on the Cymbal Line. Some do pit crew, some faux-march other instruments. This year one of them went to guard. A few years ago we had a bassoonist who went from Cymbals to playing Snare, and then she completely quit bassoon to be in percussion, haha. -
!!! SKRAMPS !!!
n3rdu5 replied to bossman's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
Who knows...maybe no one has submitted anything? Even though that sounds kinda crazy, that could be it. I have some recordings of us but they're on my dad's camcorder and I have no clue how to put them on the computer...maybe I can figure that out tonight. -
I just want a general idea of what different bands do on competition days... For example, whenever we have a competition, we have rehearsal for 2 or 3 hours. Like, today for our UIL Region contest, we got out of school early, at 11:30, so that we could go rehearse until about 2:45. (I thought it was so funny that we got out of school just to rehearse ) I personally think it's a bad idea to have such long rehearsals before a contest...I mean, we're always so tired by the end of the rehearsal, and then we have a contest to go to (and sometimes we have to perform twice)! I mean, I just think it would be better to make the other rehearsals longer and just have a shorter but meaningful rehearsal prior to the contest. That way, the band isn't tired, but they're focused. But anywho! I was just wondering if all bands have long rehearsals the day of contest, or if people have short ones, or maybe none at all?
