  1. I dont know if it is a matter of being a vague rule or not the rules states "eligible student" can only run the boards so thats pretty straight cut. But Mr Floyd had his own interpretation that they dont require "people that move equipment, set props, pick up flags, run audio be listed on the Form One as members of the competing organization. And, in fact with the exception of the audio board many of these people are actually parents or student volunteers. Thus we do not consider the person running the sound board as being a contestant. He/she is simply a student who is fulfilling that role for the band. They may or may not be a member of the band." But the rule states that "A. All equipment, such as mixers, sound boards, etc. must be operated by eligible students. That is a pretty straight cut rule when I read it. But sounds like he interprets the way he wanted but time for letters to be written so nothing happens like this again and kids/directors that do follow the rules dont suffer. It wasnt a matter either that the director "didnt know" as they have to read and sign a form (notarized) that is on the UIL site stating they know the rules and abide by them and I dont think that logic flies if you are pulled over and violate the law either. Some of that form states: I have read and am familiar with, and will continue to read the UIL Constitution and Contest Rules, activity manuals and other League bulletins and will keep myself informed as updated editions are received, in the contests for which I am responsible, throughout my tenure with this school district. I understand the contents of the UIL Constitution and Contest Rules and activity manuals in my activity(s) as they are applicable to me, to the students in my charge, to the school to which I am assigned, and to the school district. I am giving this professional acknowledgement to acknowledge the above-stated facts and the professional responsibility I freely accept with respect to my actions or omissions in activities of the UIL, and to assure my students, the parents of my students, my school, my school district, and UIL officers: (a) that I am aware of those actions and omissions that constitute violations of the UIL Constitution and Contest Rules; ( that I am aware of the ranges of possible penalties that may be imposed following a violation; and © that I am aware of the persons against whom the UIL may impose penalties. In particular, I acknowledge my understanding of the penalties that may be assessed against me should I fail to comply with the provisions of the UIL Constitution and Contest Rules. I acknowledge that I am making this sworn statement to be filed with my superintendent. This is a form that is signed and notarized on file but this is neither here not there now as the damage was done. I just wonder how much value that director placed on integrity evidently third place.
  2. I guess its an interpretation of the rules and how they (UIL) interprets them at the time. So from here on out any person can run the soundboard as they are not considered members of the band they are only "students fulfilling that role for the band." That tells me that anyone can run the soundboard according to Richard Floyd. So does that interpretation as well go for any person that isnt a member of the band that doesnt suit up can run anything in the pit or play an instrument from the side as they wouldnt be actual field team members as "It applies to the actual, in uniform, on the field team members." Also if it wasnt an issue why was their a rule written and why was their a reprimand? If he wasnt violating a rule there shouldnt have been a reprimand. Why do other band directors hurry to get away from the soundboard knowing its a rule but this one didnt? I am not trying to argue and like I said I am not dissing Coppell as they were good. I dont like the way UIL interprets the rules to be what they want it to be for the time. It should be consistent and followed for all.
  3. ahh ok my bad. Words dont reflect emotions or which posts lol
  4. Thats true on the better system and judging. Hard to say like BOA because they want the flash, I do wonder though why they were just everywhere on this judging
  5. Dont read. Its people stating how they felt about the shows. No bashing just how they felt. If you look there were kuddos too.
  6. Duncanville and Cedar Parks bands were loud and impressive but what about the bands that actually did some hard marching. Should they just now focus on not marching and be loud and forget the hard things. I saw many bands that didnt do hard marching (not saying it wasnt hard in that way) they did practice and do hard things but what about the ones with not as much sound that did the "technical hard" marching. I am still disturbed by the straight jacket people that was strange! They did it well but it was disturbing. But most definately in all the UIL contests I think the state judges were allll over the place with their scores! I think Marcus had the better show and it reflected in their being number one as it was a great show. I do see how it is harder for the schools that have smallers bands and budgets to compete with the others though.
  7. All the bands were "awesome" yesterday and it was a tough battle for the top ten. I dont know that I agree with the UIL points and how they judged them but its all over the place. Coppell was "loud" but their show was still tainted by the "cheating" soundboard that the director signed the rules he knew but still did in both contests. Anyway that is here nor there and I jsut encourage all I hear talking to write the UIL about it all. I did hear however that there was a band DQ'ed because their director just touched the board during performance yesterday, does anyone know who that was?
  8. I found all the points for every Area but Area B. They had them up at one time then took them down and just put the order they won. Does anyone know where I can find out the actual points each school got in the finals for Area B?
  9. Unfortunately it looks like the official decision was an incorrect one and its not fair to all the other bands that follow the rules. Every band was great and worked their butts off and this director knew what the rules were and broke them anyway. So next year if they take say four bands from your area and you are fifth and one broke the rules clearly written that it should be a d/q you wouldnt be bothered by it? We are not in that area but I would be steaming if I were and still am to a degree because this helps one band and slaps the other 30+. Rules are rules and rules are not made to be broken. Anyway decision was made and I feel for the ones in that area that followed the rules and dont get to go.
  10. Wow so if you break the rules you only get a slap on the wrist? Rules are Rules. I personally dont care who goes from that Area but the director knows the rules and went ahead anyway and did what he did. An example should have been set for others but instead it shows that the rules are bent when needed and not followed. They do not follow the rules set out and signed on. At ours a soundboard went out but the band played without it as the director stepped back and knew the rules and followed them. This shows a bad example of not going by written rules and enforcing them. So does this mean other bands could have went further had their directors helped with part of the soundboards, instruments, etc. This is just outrageous to make rules but dont enforce them! It is a slap in the face to all the other bands that go by the rules and follow them completely!
  11. I think everyone has probably asked the question I am fixing to ask but....does anyone have a link where they posted the points for each band for each area yet? I have found 2-3 areas that have but not all have.
