[Major Event] UIL State Contest

- Does Bell have a policy to not exhibit celebration? They clapped for the other bands but not themselves...pretty classy but let them celebrate. - Stayed in the same hotel as Bell, a very well behaved and good looking bunch of kids. Bell's told not to clap for themselves. Directors instructions. it prevents certain individuals from over congratulating themselves (such as yelling and etc because we know that you cant just tell 300 something kids to just clap and expect them to do just that lol). some people think of it as being full of themselves but its not that at all. bell claps for other bands out of respect but they're told to stand still during retreat (BOA) and UIL announcements until its all over. and believe me, you do NOT want to be the bell kid who misbehaves. The director will make your life.. um difficult. thats a nicer way to put it. its drilled into them from day one to behave and represent the school and the district. -

Yea. that happened with bell at nats '06. the remaining. everyone was in TEARS when we walked off that field at finals because we knew that was the best it would ever get and everyone put their heart and soul onto that field. we thought we had it in the bag.. but we ended up 2nd that year. so yea we were a little disappointed but like i said, those things happen. just the way it works. -

right. and its not that you guys were ungrateful just you felt let down. as was bell. i mean im pretty sure that the kids were kicking and screaming and cursing cuz they lost. once the buzz calms down everyone will realize that their placing doesnt seem as band. 2nd best in the state is good. as is 4th. i mean think of all the other bands who didnt make finals, let alone even make state. the bands who made state should be happy that they even made it cuz there are some bands who could only DREAM of making it to state. congrats to all. -

I cant speak for the whole band but from who i've talked to it was more out of being disappointed than "pissed". They were being told that "it was their yr to win" and they won BOA SA (and yes i know they're 2 different contests which is 2 different ways of being judged) on saturday. AND they apparently marched their best show of the season and was highly praised by their head director. so yea, they got their hopes up that they were going to win but much to their surprise and disappointment that they were beat. They're high school students. and high schoolers dont normally think before they react. i'm sure everyone can agree. I'm sorry that that upset you that they were disappointed for getting second. but if you were in the same situation as them im sure you wouldnt be too pleased. i'm not like griping at you or anything like that lol so dont take offense. im just saying look at it in the perspective that they're teenagers not like they're the most mature people in the world. and they had the praise and support of their family and friends and directors which probably got their hopes up. anyway, thats just what i think. of course, you dont have to agree -

You say that because you've marched some of Bell's shows.you know what they're like. lol. nice opinion but i do agree, as i've marched in Bell's physically demanding shows. marcus is good but i kind of see bell and marcus on 2 different levels of what is the definition of a "good marching show" they're both great in their own way but it's kind of hard to compare Bell's show with marcus' show... again, my opinion so dont attack me for it -

I think it sucks that Reagan isnt a big competing band anymore. they didnt even make state and they placed last in finals at BOA sa. guess thats what happens when your school splits and director leaves.. hope they get back up there. they use to be one of bell's biggest competitions when i was at Bell. and so was churchill... apparently now thats changed to marcus over the past few yrs -

i like coppell's band. not necessarily their shows but from what i've seen in the past i've always remembered coppell as march very clean. they may not be the best but at least their marchings good.(from what i've seen lol) -

he didnt say something because it's true. you might think it's true along with other people. but being involved with the bell band, everyone is told not to go onto these posting your opinion or bashing other bands... sooo theres a possibility he just kept his mouth shut out of respect for the band IN MY OPINION.. i dont agree with the comment about the about being judged on difficulty. I believe, from the few times i've seen marcus' and bell's shows, they're at least equally as difficult. like i said, its just my opinion. -

what dfife is getting at is you're entitled to your opinion when you know what you're talking about. and seeing as dfife knows every single move the ld bell band makes, you dont want to state your opinion unless you know exactly what you're talking bout. just a warning for the future -

i think some of the judges got a little "10th place" happy because looking at the raw scores it looked like almost every band got at least one 10th place.. churchill got 2. i think the judging is screwed up. Ive seen some of those shows and i know its based on their performances at the contest but some of those bands got a lower score and placing that i wouldve placed them. congrats to marcus though. in my opinion, that was what i think the BOA SA contest and state contest were really about. if it was going to be marcus or bell this time. at least bell won one contest and marcus one another. haha. but good job to all the bands. especially marcus and bell -
[Major Event] UIL State Contest
TXBandNerd07 replied to Xenon's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
All these bands worked really hard... not just marcus. Everyone puts in hours, days, weeks, months of hard work. Not just marcus.Bell couldnt have won BOA Saturday without all that really hard work. and none of the bands who made state could have made it with out all that hard work. so marcus doesnt deserve to win just because "they worked so hard" because everyone did. you cant have a successful show without working hard. -
i'm with you on that one.

you know, this would be alot better if, oh i dunno, UIL made a site like BOA so we could watch this stupid thing instead of doing the whole "well so and so said this" haha...I think i like BOA, excuse me,MUSIC FOR ALL(BLAH) better. at least i had a better idea of what was going on.. -

haha.. that will change when bell goes to Nats. Finals at Nats has always turned out to be the band's best performance. But for Earnie to say that now is good. Go Bell! -

Haha like the first 2 are any question. you of all people know the first 2. as for the 3rd, i think Cedar Park because they seem to be doing well this contest and they placed third this weekend.
