  1. so cyms, i thought it would be fun to have a little place for us to chat and chill. talk about cool visual ideas, good lines you have seen, what your line is up to and such... so yeah. right now my line is trying to plug in cool visual stuff wherever we can when we aren't playing and such... so if anyone has something cool they would enjoy sharing, i would greatly appreciate it. my favorite line i have seen so far is definately brazoswood... holy cow, if any of you guys get a chance to see their cymbal line you will be amazed, they are total hosses. i got to watch part of their warmup before BOA houston and was totally impressed. so yeah, brazoswood is freakin awesome...
  2. actual results: 1. Cypress Falls 2. Clements 3. Clear Brook 4. Westfield 5. Taylor Click here for full results. congrats to cypress falls! the contest was fun even though my band was missing 20+ seniors due to the SAT. I didn't get to see cypress or clements so i don't want to give uneducated commentary, but i enjoyed westfield's show, it was really entertaining. what are yall's comments on results and the shows that you saw?
  3. WORD!!! i agree with you completely... i have only dated one person in high school and it was stupid... also it was a DM... way to public for my taste... so yeah... dating not my favorite
  4. so this isn't a falling story, but one time at a UIL regional the straps on one of my cymbals finally gave up and the cymbal fell out of my hand onto the field in the few seconds before we were going to start so the crowd was silent and the dm was just about to begin when you hear "CRASH!!!!" so loud... i was mortified.... the band of course didn't turn, go them, and the dm just waited a nano second so i could pick up the cymbal and move on so it ended up fine... but my pride was seriously injured and as a freshman i was scared to death of what my sec. leader would say when we finished. overall a good learning experience, always tighten your straps...
  5. - when your marching shoes are part of your evacuee necessities... - when you call your band director after getting back in town from evacuating to find out when we are going to have practice... - when you listen for the instrumentation in movies and totally get lost in the plot because you are listening for the awesome horn lick once again. - when you are humming/whistling your show as you walk through the halls of your school and look over and see a fellow band nerd directing and walking in time to the part you are singing... - when you have no clue what the final score of the football game is, but you sure know how many times the other band played "Land of 1000 Dances" - When you know the name of your band director's dog - When you consider eating lunch in a practice room a much better option than the cafeteria. - When you can't fall asleep because you are so anxious about marching season... and its Febuary. - When you buy the "I'm with the band" shirt and never even consider for a second that it isn't meaning high school marching band. - when it looks like you have white golves on constantly from a cymbal glove tan... I know what you are thinking.... its so hot.... i know... - when you have a set plan for what band you will seek out when break ranks is called. -when watching tv you think, "ooo i could make that into a really cool cymbal visual!" - when you consider dating a fellow section member as incest... - when you look over in the stands and your mom is doing the stand dances with all the other moms to "iron man". - when your six year old sister walks around the house singing the school fight song - when you try to get out of your classes so you can go to the band hall to end up just sitting there listening to fifth band play... eek... - when your band director posts on your my space - when your little sister draws a family portrait at school and when you inquire as to why you aren't included she replies, "oh, you are at band" <--(true story my friends... so sad) - when you can't wait to wake up at 2 am to go to a band contest in another city, once done with that one to go to another contest back home, go back again for finals and come home finally at 3 am the next day... man, i cant wait. really. -when a band contest is suddenly much more important than taking your SAT. - when watching "Remember the Titans" or "Friday Night Lights" for the first time you got really excited and yelled "whooo!!! go band" anytime a clip or shot of the band was shown... come on... i know you did it. - when you rember going to marching contests when you were four... now that is generational band nerdiness... - when you start to get frustrated when second quarter goes long and you wish they would hurry up and finish up with the football so you can go march already.
  6. on the bright side, the hurricane caused my band to finally get all their crap out of the band hall because we all evacuated. it was so weird the last school day we had before we all had to evacuate because all the horns were going home or being put on all the top shelves and everyone was in panic mode trying to save all the show stuff. it was very surreal. i was so worried the whole time that we wouldn't be back in time for BOA. luckily the bandhall is fine and we are going back to practice as soon as we can and our student leaders are putting the bh back together tomorrow, so im happy. i swear, i am the ultimate band nerd... my marching shoes were a part of the essentials i brought with me when we were leaving just in case i decided to stay and join Centerville for a few months... overall Rita missed me completely and i live in Galveston County, definately a God thing... prayer works. BOA i do believe is continuing, the stadium is fine, but don't quote me on that.
  7. I absolutely can't wait for the houston BOA show, its my band's second year to go to a BOA regional and i am so excited. thank god Rita didn't destroy houston or things would have to change... i love the thrill of performing in front of that many people, its such an adrenaline rush. i can't wait to see everyone's show and good luck to all of ya!
  8. yeah... if we threw water we would definately die... we don't really have time to since our water breaks are like 30 seconds long. my director: " the crowd is gonna be throwing babies!!!!"
