  7. The best show never to win a gold medal is by far the Madison Scouts of 1995. darn!!! Just to name a few others: 1) BD 04 and 06 2) SCV 87, 88, and 98 3) Cadets 95
  8. Ronald Morrison, Mark Chambers, Rick Rodriguez (from Spring HS), Ferd Vollmar (Director of Fine Arts at NEISD--where Reagan and Churchill reside), Fred Velez (Associate Director of Bands and Director of Athletic Bands at Sam Houston State University), and George Armenta (Director of Cologuard at Arcadia High School). HMMM....if one of these people said a comment that would help me to become a better player I would take it in a heartbeat. The main emphasis was on music at this contest. I think it was like 50% or something like that. Anyways, I would like to point out once again (or like the thousand times prior to this) that judges choose (another word for judge) the bands that are the best for their given judging system. Just because you think that your band is the best, doesnt mean it is. You might of had your best performance of the season so far, but someone else might have had a better one.
  9. Finals Results 1. 82.60 - L.D. Bell HS, TX 2. 81.00 - Stephen F. Austin HS, TX Outstanding General Effect: L.D. Bell HS, TX
  10. However, this is a huge difference the corps who has never missed finals and the one who is going through a ton of changes. There is a huge difference between directing a high school and corps full of college students (some high school people too). I hope they have success in the years to come, I just dont think that they will make finals this year.
  11. I think people are jumping to conclusions...just because they are coming to Texas does not mean they are going to automatically make finals. Yeah, this is just a poll, but.... ---The Crossmen havent made finals since 2004 (they received 11th place). ---They missed finals this year by over 4 full points. ---The system is going to be completely new, as will the staff. There are other factors too, but you get the point. I would love for them to make it, but I don't think this is their year.
  12. Actually, it is a very smart idea. Why not perform twice? It will give them an extra performance under their belt.
  13. Ummmm.....Errrrrr......If you have not noticed, the Cadets have been around since 1934. They can flat out play, regardless of what props, amps (which most corps use with their pits), etc. Their drumline was smoking this past year. Lets all remember they are just a year removed from their 99.15 show. The only difference from 2005 and 2006 is that in the place of a drumspeak there is singing...I see no difference. Anyways, lets not forget about the Cadets of the 80s (5 titles in 8 years) and their magnificant show in 2000. Im sorry for the rant, its just been a long time....needed to get it out of my system lol. GO BLUE DEVILS!!!
  14. Then which high school did you attend?
  15. Just wanting to know...
  16. Hey Band_Freak....what school do you go to?
  17. This is coming from me, a college person in marching band: At the university I go to (a very good one too), we learn a new show every week. Each show has a theme and last about 15 minutes(ish). I love every minute that I practice and perform. But, if I had to actually be serious about it, it would be more like marching in a high school band. Thus being less fun and exciting. And the main point of college marching band (unlike HS) is to provide spirit and fun to the football game atmosphere. AND a far more important reason is that students wouldn't have the time to do it. I am taking 17 hours in college (tons of HW and practicing since 8 of those are music related), there are the football games on Saturday, church on Sunday, and working when I have the time so that I can buy food.....so I personally would not have the time to invest in compete in such an activity.
  18. They are not, but when you say something once you shouldnt have to say it again. w00t!
  19. Seeing that I went to the school, I am pretty darn sure that Key Poulan arranged the Planets for CP. w00t!
  20. While this is good for the Crossmen.... I predict that Mark Chambers will leave his position as director of RRHS within the next two years to go full-time with the X-Men. Either way, this cant be good for the Reagan band and their tough shows. Reasons being is that I assume a TON of Reagan kids are going to march it and will become tired during marching season after 6 months of straight of performing. (sorry for being negative)
  21. Lets just all remember that until tomorrow these are all rumors. The Alumni meeting was today and the outcome will be out tomorrow. It would be super cool if a Div 1 corps was in Texas, but for right now it is a rumor.
  22. There will be more bands to attend (says my sources). It is a prelims/finals contest with very great adjudicators for it.
  23. Judging Format: Music: 40% (two judges--20% each) Visual: 30% (two judges--15% each) General Effect: 20% (one judge) Percussion: 5% (one judge) Color Guard: 5% (one judge)
  24. Judges: Mark Chambers--Director of Bands, Ronald Reagan High School - San Antonio, TX Rick Rodriguez--Director of Percussion, Spring High School - Spring, TX Ronald Morrison--CEO, SASI, Ltd., former Director of Bands, Cedar Park High School - Cedar Park, TX Ferd Vollmar--Director of Fine Arts, Northeast Independent School District - San Antonio, TX Fred Velez--Associate Director of Bands, Director of Athletic Bands - Sam Houston State University - Huntsville, TX George Armenta--Director of Cologuard, Arcadia High School - Arcadia, CA #7 - TBD
