  1. Do not forget that this is their first year to host a marching event. They have obtained a very accomplished panel of judges. The contest is also on the same day as a BOA Regional Event. Anyways, I am pretty sure that the number will be higher than that.
  2. Sorry to burst everyone's bubble, but Star is gone forever. Their time has past. There are reasons as to why Star has and will not ever come back. To begin with, the staff of Star has dispersed into various corps (most notably Carolina Crown), Blast, Blast II, etc. Things will be different if the organization decides to bring in a whole new set of people. Second...if you look at their scores they only had a successful run of about four years (top 3 from '90 to '94, 6th and above the other five years). If you take a look at the other top corps (Cavaliers and Blue Devils), they have been way more successful than Star during that period of time from '85 to '93. Finally...people should not bask in the glow of what was '93. It was one show (the show was great, dont get me wrong), but what makes a corps great is a series of shows. People have forgotten how great the Cavalier's are right now. Since the turn of the century, they have won 5 of 7 championships (going from 2000 to 2006). The other two years they received second place. They set the first 99.15- higest score ever to date. In those years, the havent fell below the score of 97.2-- there is no other corps in history to have done that. Zero, Zip, Nada!!! In that span of time they have averaged a score of 97.989. No other corps has averaged a score that high. I dont know what you can call greatness, but the Cavaliers sure seem to be the definition of it. Not the Star of Indiana. Where is the 99.15 of Star's. Where is the 7 championships that the Cavaliers have, the 9 that the Cadets have, and the whopping 11 of the Blue Devils (whom has never placed outside of 4th place since '75....in '91 they received 5th). And lets not forget that in '93 that Star didnt win...the Cadets did. If the show is going to be called the greatest show ever, than shouldn't it have won? Shouldnt have received the 99.15? Star in their 9 year tenure in the top 12 has only won 1 title. Word!

  4. 'Crocodile Hunter' Steve Irwin Dies at 44 Sep 4, 12:41 AM EST Video: "Croc Hunter" remembered The Associated Press BRISBANE, Australia -- Steve Irwin, the hugely popular Australian television personality and conservationist known as the "Crocodile Hunter," was killed Monday by a stingray while filming off the Great Barrier Reef. He was 44. Irwin was at Batt Reef, off the remote coast of northeastern Queensland state, shooting a segment for a series called "Ocean's Deadliest" when he swam too close to one of the animals, which have a poisonous barb on their tails, his friend and colleague John Stainton said. "He came on top of the stingray and the stingray's barb went up and into his chest and put a hole into his heart," said Stainton, who was on board Irwin's boat at the time. Crew members aboard the boat, Croc One, called emergency services in the nearest city, Cairns, and administered CPR as they rushed the boat to nearby Low Isle to meet a rescue helicopter. Medical staff pronounced Irwin dead when they arrived a short time later, Stainton said. Irwin was famous for his enthusiasm for wildlife and his catchword "Crikey!" in his television program "Crocodile Hunter." First broadcast in Australia in 1992, the program was picked up by the Discovery network, catapulting Irwin to international celebrity. He rode his image into a feature film, 2002's "The Crocodile Hunters: Collision Course" and developed the wildlife park that his parents opened, Australia Zoo, into a major tourist attraction. "The world has lost a great wildlife icon, a passionate conservationist and one of the proudest dads on the planet," Stainton told reporters in Cairns. "He died doing what he loved best and left this world in a happy and peaceful state of mind. He would have said, 'Crocs Rule!'" Prime Minister John Howard, who hand-picked Irwin to attend a gala barbecue to honor President Bush when he visited in 2003, said he was "shocked and distressed at Steve Irwin's sudden, untimely and freakish death." "It's a huge loss to Australia," Howard told reporters. "He was a wonderful character. He was a passionate environmentalist. He brought joy and entertainment and excitement to millions of people." Irwin, who made a trademark of hovering dangerously close to untethered crocodiles and leaping on their backs, spoke in rapid-fire bursts with a thick Australian accent and was almost never seen without his uniform of khaki shorts and shirt and heavy boots. Wild animal expert Jack Hanna, who frequently appears on TV with his subjects, offered praise for Irwin. "Steve was one of these guys, we thought of him as invincible," Hanna, director emeritus of the Columbus (Ohio) Zoo and Aquarium, told ABC's "Good Morning America" Monday. "The guy was incredible. His knowledge was incredible," Hanna said. "Some people that are doing this stuff are actors and that type of thing, but Steve was truly a zoologist, so to speak, a person who knew what he was doing. Yes, he did things a lot of people wouldn't do. I think he knew what he was doing." Irwin's ebullience was infectious and Australian officials sought him out for photo opportunities and to promote Australia internationally. His public image was dented, however, in 2004 when he caused an uproar by holding his infant son in one arm while feeding large crocodiles inside a zoo pen. Irwin claimed at the time there was no danger to the child, and authorities declined to charge Irwin with violating safety regulations. Later that year, he was accused of getting too close to penguins, a seal and humpback whales in Antarctica while making a documentary. Irwin denied any wrongdoing, and an Australian Environment Department investigation recommended no action be taken against him. Stingrays have a serrated, toxin-loaded barb, or spine, on the top of their tail. The barb, which can be up to 10 inches long, flexes if a ray is frightened. Stings usually occur to people when they step on or swim too close to a ray and can be excruciatingly painful but are rarely fatal, said University of Queensland marine neuroscientist Shaun Collin. Collin said he suspected Irwin died because the barb pierced under his ribcage and directly into his heart. "It was extraordinarily bad luck. It's not easy to get spined by a stingray and to be killed by one is very rare," Collin said. News of Irwin's death spread quickly, and tributes flowed from all quarters of society. At Australia Zoo at Beerwah, south Queensland, floral tributes were dropped at the entrance, where a huge fake crocodile gapes. Drivers honked their horns as they passed. "Steve, from all God's creatures, thank you. Rest in peace," was written on a card with a bouquet of native flowers. "We're all very shocked. I don't know what the zoo will do without him. He's done so much for us, the environment and it's a big loss," said Paula Kelly, a local resident and volunteer at the zoo, after dropping off a wreath at the gate. Stainton said Irwin's American-born wife Terri, from Eugene, Ore., had been informed of his death, and had told their daughter Bindi Sue, 8, and son Bob, who will turn 3 in December. The couple met when she went on vacation in Australia in 1991 and visited Irwin's Australia Zoo; they were married six months later. Sometimes referred to as the "Crocodile Huntress," she costarred on her husband's television show and in his 2002 movie.

  6. Dont worry about it Elizabeth...while I appreciate your willingness to help, Ill take care of it.
  7. Yeah....and counting sheep will actually help you to fall asleep...
  8. Your welcome! I'll try to update the list as frequently as possible whenever the information is introduced to the general public.
  9. I whole-heartedly agree with that statement...with DCI you were able to consistantly have a range of score you could pick and there is a unified scoring system in place. With high school, there are multiple scoring systems (UIL, BOA, others). Thus making the predictions more difficult for all. Here are my suggestions: For DCI, keep the new system where the scores are included. For HS marching band, just use the placements (the one constant in judging since some contests only use placements).
  10. I think the opposite...it allows for the predictor to make up more ground (or in some cases lose some). It also forces the predictor to think about their predictions. Although, I think that the high school band predictions should be place-predictions only since the influx of scores would make it hard to predict accurately. Plus, its hard to measure how much a band has gained/loss over a period of a week unless you are a member of that band. Even then...
  11. 1) I think that this state-of-the-art PAC will be the beginning of a new frontier in sound performance technology for high schools and beyond. 2) Its about time that Geiger is memoralized/recognized. He is one of the great minds in the marching and concert arts. He had numorous great ensembles that were invited to perform at such venues at TMEA, Midwest, and other great events. Plus he is one of the premiere clinicians in the nation and is a consultant to the famed Santa Clara Vanguard.
  12. After an extensive search of google, youtube, and other such places, I have come to the conclusion that the video is not available for free . My best recommendation would be to buy the '95 DCI Legacy DVD collection. I think they are about $39. The money supports the corps and is a legal way to view the material. Or you could always find a friend who bought the DVD...

  14. I know the point of their statement...their last comment was just weird.
  15. One would assume that the word uniform would have to do something along the lines of a constant similarity in what a band/corps wears...just my thoughts.
  16. Its spelled Bluecoats.
  17. Cedar Park '02 This was their first year in 5A. They were doing well until the 2002 Area D controversy (that in some weird twisted way help to revamp UIL systems). After that, they went to the Duncanville Marching Invitational and gave a show of their lives (at least for the season). They played Barbers's Concerto Violin and Orchestra. Lots of WW technique and loud brass, nice oboe soloist, drumline that smokes. It is in the media section of this website. I encourage all to listen to it--it will make you cry.
  18. I will be go to the Blue Devils for the upcoming season, THE BEST brassline in all of DCI.
  19. That is ****ing lame!!! BD should have won!!! Anyways, the Cavs show was good. PR show was blah...should not have received 2nd. I will not be able to hang with some friends who are PR fans. GO BLUECOATS---I really think that within the next two years the will get a title. Crown once again receives the royal screwing of the year. Good Brass, bad percussion. Anyways, there is always next year. Go BLUE DEVILS!!!!!

  25. FAQ: Drum Corps International and DCI World Championships move to Indianapolis 8/09/2006 -- 1:40 PM CST Drum Corps International announced on Aug. 8, 2006, that it will move its headquarters to the city of Indianapolis and bring its World Championships to Lucas Oil Stadium beginning in 2008. Why Indianapolis of all places? Are they paying DCI big bucks to do this? Most cities are motivated to reach out and attract events, organizations and corporations which create a positive economic impact in their communities. It is estimated that the DCI World Championships will have at least a $10 million positive economic impact in each year of DCI
