  1. General gist of it is: after the school name you have the five placements from the five judges at today's contest (so, the lower the better) and the sixth number is just the five numbers added up. Band with the lowest score wins. Edit: As for what they represent, pretty much just where the judge ranked them in terms with the other groups. My thoughts on the results? Wow. Duncanville out of finals? And their scores were consistently out of finals? I missed the performance so maybe this isn't as surprising as I think it is, but dang. Never thought I'd see the day. Reagan third? After San Antonio last weekend I thought them medaling was a bit of a stretch but apparently its quite possible. Johnson in finals? Awesome! Always great seeing a new face. And as per usual, scores seem a little all over the place. The only one that confuses me is Plano East's 9 and 32 in visual I can understand 10-15 variation but 23 spot difference? Little crazy. And of course we still have finals. And since this is state, I'm expecting quite a few placement differences. Really looking forward to the webcast!!
  2. Prelims scores (according to Balash on the BOA forums): 83.25 - Marcus 81.60 - James Bowie H.S. , TX 80.75 - Claudia Taylor Johnson H.S., TX 80.30 - Hebron H.S., TX 78.95 - Cedar Park H.S., TX 78.70 - Vandergrift H.S., TX 77.95 - Flower Mound H.S., TX 76.80 - Coppell H.S., TX 75.90 - Richland H.S., TX 74.40 - Ronald Reagan H.S., TX ___________________________________________ 73.85 - L.V. Berkner 72.80 - Plano East 72.15 - Keller Central 72.00 - Keller 70.55 - Wakeland 69.50 - Birdville 68.85 - James Martin 68.15 - Centennial 68.10 - Vista Ridge 66.20 - Wagner 65.55 - James E. Taylor 65.05 - Blue Valley West 64.15 - Colleyville Heritage 62.65 - Boswell 62.20 - Wills Point 61.50 - Keller Fossil Ridge 60.60 - Edmond Memorial 60.30 - Lone Star 59.60 - Frisco 58.95 - John H. Guyer 58.80 - Trinity 57.25 - Denton 54.75 - Ryan Exciting start to the season! Nothing insanely unusual...but I'm really interested to see how the season progresses from here. Few random thoughts: - Its nice to see CTJ moving on up into a top 3 spot. Wasn't sure if they'd be able to but they proved me wrong. Can't wait to see the show! - Nice to see Hebron recover after last year (placement wise--I actually really liked that show, lol) - Vandegrift right on Cedar Park's heels score wise. It'll be real interesting to see how that plays out late season - On a similar note, Keller Central over Keller by a slim margin. Finally, thanks for having the live blog! It was the first season since '09 I wasn't able to make it to the North Texas regional, so really appreciate it!
  3. Dang, both Wakeland and Vandegrift had quite the drop in finals. All in all, great finals! Every group was awesome and I really couldn't have predicted the outcome, lol.
  4. Gotta say, this competition was amazing in just about every way. The level all of the bands performed on was insane--I mean, with a slightly better performance I'm willing to bet most bands could've jumped a place or two. And to echo what someone said earlier, this was the first year in a while where I felt like I couldn't guess the results as they were announcing them (not to mention the close scores/caption scoring were all so close). It really could've been anyone's game. I'd also like to throw a shout out to Plano East. Being from my hometown, I was really excited (as well as disappointed) to see that they placed fifteenth on such a stacked year.
  5. It's "Jar of Hearts" by Christina Perri (at least I think so--know for sure its called Jar of Hearts). And while I do love a good mello part, the main highlite of the show for me would have to do be the movement after the ballad--the way Equus and Madea are arranged there is just insane.
  6. And we got prelims scores today: http://www.musicforall.org/images/stories/...XCO.Prelims.pdf Few things I noticed after scanning it a bit: - Pflugerville tied Brazoswood for the tenth place spot going into finals (placed 11th due to General Effect and apparently should've made finals due to a BOA rule that states that if two bands tie for the final spot into finals, they both advance) - Vandegrift placed 12th--just .15 of a point behind Pflugerville/Brazoswood - Marcus beat out Bell by 1.05
  7. Considering it took them until last Friday for Arlington...probably not until this Friday at the earliest. And I wouldn't be surprised if it gets bumped to the following Monday since there were two other regionals that day rather than just one. The Fan Network tends to post the smaller regionals first. I really hope this isn't the case but its completely possible.
  8. I may be wrong, but I've always figured that the black uniforms are just the white uniforms just without the vest. If you look at the 2006 videos you can see the drum majors wearing the black uniform...but it could be there's a slight difference between the band's black uniforms from '07 and the drum major's.
  9. I don't mean to be a killjoy, but Plano East placed higher in prelims and finals at San Antonio last year...and my earlier comment was coming from my overall impressions based on what I saw, not on the scores. Also, this was actually Plano East's 3rd regional ever. They attended BOA Denton way back in 1996, lol.
  10. Mansfield 12th? Plano East 17th? Rowlett 22nd? Birdville 24th? Goes to show you just how stacked this competition was--I thought East and Rowlett had a legit shot of making finals but apparently they were quite out. Gotta say, Mansfield has a really difficult show this year that I'm not surprised missed finals...however, they're still in serious contention if they can clean that show for San Antonio. That being said, tons of great shows out there--exciting start to the season!
  11. I haven't seen too much of their show, but what I have seen is that they have mirrors on the field. And imo, they're used pretty dang effectively in the opener. They're definitely in final contentions this year but with this competition its going to be a real fight to actually make it. Needless to say, I'm real excited about those last two blocks of the day--pretty much back to back potential finalists! I'd really like that. A lot. No offense to L.D. Bell, but I'd just love to see a change up. As for Saginaw, the calender on their website has no indication of area or state contests this year, so that likely means they're 5A. I'm guessing this was figured out, but I thought I'd just throw this out there, lol. Looking forward to being here again this year!
  12. I'd hate to be on that uniform crew. I remember the scramble to get new uniforms sorted my junior year...and that was only for ~100 students
  13. Legacy's moved up to 5A so there's no chance of them being at 4A state this year, lol. And this is the first time I've ever been excited for 4A State. Its definitely gonna be a good one!
  14. Yes, because they got beat at state by the same group that beat them at BOA San Antonio I think a better example would be The Woodlands 2006 or SFA 2004 (though there's a lot more to the story with this). Am I the only one who finds it a bit ironic that Cedar Park dumbs down the drill for BOA and goes difficult for UIL?
  15. This was posted a while ago on the BOA forums, but may as well make it known here. Winston Churchill dropped out of the Atlanta lineup Not too surprising. Can't imagine it'd be cheap to make it out there...
