The stuff I listed off was off of the judge's rubrics at Area/State, just so you know. So technically I looked at a rubric but not the same rubric you looked at To be honest, I don't really agree. I mean, GE should be taken into consideration but maybe not so much as 40 pts. To me GE stems from music exececution and drill design/execution. Should the band who was given a creative show and performed decently place higher then the band who got the less creative show and performed it better? Also, I don't think Texas should morph to be like other contests. UIL is always so interesting since the results aren't quite what you would expect to be Besides, with the every other year state rule bands can shift foucs on BOA and UIL. Not many bands have the funds/fundraising ability to go to a lot of out of state BOA competitions every year. Hopefully this makes sense and I'm not just ranting or something Do the bands who do well in UIL not do well in BOA? "Boring" shows aren't winning or advancing so much. I don't think there was a 5A show last year that made state that completely lacked GE. And you're implying that the bands with more money should do better...

While UIL may not have GE judges, GE is technically apart of the rubrics. Music: - Brass/Woodwind/Percussion: Effective Use - Ensemble: Suitablility of Music Visual: - Execution of Marching Fundementals: Other Body Movements - Drill: Compatablility of Marching Style with drill, Difficulty of Drill, Continuity and Flow - Integration of Marching Components: Visual Reinforcement of Music, Effective Use of Auxiliary Units, Appearance of Uniforms While it may not be worth as much, its still on the rubric. And btw, the example of "you could play "Mary Had A Little Lamb", march around in a big square for 9 minutes, and have perfect score - and make Finals" is pretty much the common complaint against UIL but it really isn't true.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the Honor Band competition won with Hebron's ensemble from last year also? Though I agree, each year their shows have been getting better and better! I'm really looking forward to seeing their show in about a week

They may have won Texas State Honor Band competition but I'm pretty sure that Marcus will win music... I could see Hebron taking a visual caption though.

Lol, I believe Plano East has a game the night before BOA SA and have to leave at 2AM also Maybe you'll see each other on the road, lol. Also, can't wait to go this competition again! It was a good time last year

Yeah, I saw a live stream of Avon's show last night which included a drum break after where the video ends and the show is amazing Certainly has potential to win nationals again! Btw, (assuming your youtube name is the same as your forum name) the show is called "IconoClash". The title is pretty self-explanatory

I've heard scary things about it from people who used it to get back from Houston for Labor Day weeked as for that five hour energy stuff....that's horribly ironic

Technically my alma mater finished their show in a few weeks xD They'll start learning a second one soon...

I pretty much agree with all of those shows Though I'd have to say (based on personal taste) that my favorite show ever would be a toss up between Ronald Reagan's "You Never Know..." and L. D. Bell's "Ascension: Light of Gold". Reagan's show is exciting and fun to watch but L. D. Bell's was just designed so amazingly. It's hard to say which is better... Adding onto that, Avon's show this year (IconoClash) is shaping up to be really amazing. It could possibly take the position but only time will tell

The Woodlands got third and Richland got sixth Their show this year seems like it'll be good but its hard to tell from the recording I saw (since its so early in the season). And I agree with Xenon. I'm excited to see what Hebron will bring to the field! Update 9/24: Allen's show is New World Symphony.

If this is the same show Carmel did in 2007 then I'm looking forward to it!

Congrats to Hebron! and to all of them for making it this far. Its interesting I managed to go through high school (in Texas) without ever hearing of Honor Band until after I graduate

And James Bowie went last year. I'm guessing they're aiming at every three years (2006, 2009), such as Churchill's every four years (1998, 2002, 2006, 2010), though they've only been twice so that doesn't back anything up

Why does The Woodlands dropping out of Arlington not surprise me...do they do that every year or just these past two? And I think Wakeland was signed up before they edited it...I had them in my predictions Thanks for the update dmbalash!

It's the same as the recording I have Though I'm not sure if what's seen going on during the announcement is considered part of the pre-show or not...Thanks for the response though! XD And I love that website btw
